I was the one that was afraid that the game would turn out too colorful, and not gothicy enough, but now I think its great. Why is it great? Because it makes perfect sense. In reality, no world would be all dark, and gothicy, not even in a game, and has anyone even seen the map of Sanctuary? Its freaking huge! How can you expect the entire world to be dark? That makes no sense what so ever.. Metaphoricly speaking, in every bad situation there is always a safe haven, a piece of norm somewhere, even if only in brief moments. All that Blizzard is doing is throwing in some contrast into the environments.. This way the experience is always fresh, and always different.. Not to mention, its more believable.. Why would you want to look at same kind of environments all the time anyways? Especially in a huge world like the one shown in the Map of Sanctuary.. That really makes no sense.. Plus you have to take into account that 20yrs have passed, and life continued.. During this time, some darker areas became fileld with life again, and in term, not so dark anymore..
As I said before, I'm sure that the theme is still geared towards looking mostly dark, gloomy, and gothicy; about 70% of the world, but not entirely..
What if they're janking everyone's chain? What if they built a system into the game where light is slowly taken over by darkness?
I do agree, however, that they shouldn't make it so cartoony...
