No, he was not talking about technology, he was talking about them trying to pass diablo 3 off as a MMO. THat is not out of the possibility, but they would be clear from the start.
In a recent interview the VP of Blizzard told them one of their primary focuses/challenges in expanding their franchises is to expand the gameplay/storyline while keeping the familiarity with the earlier games. This is while when people talk about them making Diablo 3 with a completely different graphics style and/or completely different game mechanics, well... it's not going to happen.
A MMO might take place in the Diablo universe, but it won't be called diablo III.

In reading the suggestions thread I came across someone's idea of increasing the limit of players from 8 to 12. I'm not really into this. 8 players, I thought, worked very well in D2. To me 12 players would feel more like a crowd than a party, which to me in this type of game is not appealing, not to mention the increased lag.
How many would you like to be allowed in a game?

You obviously don't know much about Blizzard. Staying true to their franchises has always been important.
