I agree - Diablo 1 didn't have much of a solid story.. I mean it did, but it appears that it didn't - and to be honest, when Diablo 1 was released.. all it really was (if you didn't read the game manuals and such), was a Devil type creature under the town of Tristram, with his hordes of demons devestating everything, and now you have to go kill them all. =P
As a recent reader of the sin war trilogy(I've read all 4 previous novels too), I truly 100% stand behind the changes in diablo lore. Personally, these books made it easier to really sink my teeth into the realm that is sanctuary. I've grown to respect and love pretty much every aspect of diablo lore, now that I have a better understanding through the books.
Personally, I never got far in Diablo 1, although I've had my good share of lvl 90's in D2, so I'm missing out on alot of the gaming diablo lore that you talk about.
Regardless of changes, diablo lore is incredible.
Edit: Lets count how many times I say... "Diablo lore"
4! =P
Diablo Lore has always amazed me.. I just love it!
I don't know whether or not and how big is the change on the originally conceived Diablo lore since I haven't read the SW trilogy that everyone refers to (just the first three that came out + demonsbane-which actually sucked), yet some kind of unease got me whilst reading Knaak's reply. He didn't seem quite happy about the change, though why should he be- he wrote it, for crying out loud, butta, maybe he just didn't have time to make a complete answer and all.
Hey hey hey! ... Demonsbane was a nice little tale! =D
Yeah, I believe this time around, the game will be much into the storyline than the other Diablo games.. it's gonna be one hell of a ride!
I can't wait to see what Diablo III brings us!
