first off! i do NOT work for the company that have this program so this is _NOT_ Advertisement, i'm just interested in sharing interests
im currently studying Gamedevelopment in a university here in Sweden and i'm also an eternal fan of Diablo series from Blizzard.
i was going around this forums and got the idea... as most here are interested in games maybe some guys are interested to start making some "simple" games. There is this program called "Gamemaker" that i and my school use to learn the basics of game making and its a perfect tool for the one interested in making games but maybe don't know that much about programming. The lite version is 100% free but comes whit some limitations that shouldn't bother a normal user, if you find it very interesting buying a copy is recommended. you can make anything from Super mario to quake.
Learning this program and making Prototypes of games are one thing that people like me (serious game developer) use daily!
I recommend starting whit the Tutorials that are in the program there is 2 of them right there and there is pleny on the web
I'm even adding a game here that I made using Gamemaker. you might want to lower the volume a bit before starting it
My game: Helicopter Escape Run of Death, Reloaded and Reborn!
This game was made over the period of 2 weeks, and we was told to make a "ONE button game" not 2 not even using the mouse, 1! button. I made this game and it was enjoyed by everyone trying it.

Gogo, some one create diablo 3 lite with this gamemaker so i can play that game for a few months until d3 is released
*Edit , played ur game now reminded me of an flash game that i used to play online with a helicopter in a infinit tunnel that always became smaller and smaller Gj!
so i just got swinging working and made allot of new textures for the world. i currently have problem whit figuring out how i should make the arrows fly as i want to, and also make some kind of targeting option.
anyone got ideas of what kind of monsters there should be in this sidescroller action RPG?
I got ideas for an orc kind of enemy atm. and considering adding some kind of spider as well
new idea, a monster blob made out of lots of small balls that are connected, will make him "flow" when he move and the ability to go thru small holes as he can flow in between like water
other cool ideas? don't really seem like that many are interested
while i am waiting for d3 im currently not making a game but something weird keeps happening. ever since the d3 annoucement more and more mmos are letting you play lvls 1-20 for free mainly rift i see now and wow, whats going on here i wonder? i wonder if everquest is doing the same thing? can anyone else shed some light on this subject

hi guys ^^ this is a bit old now i made it last year and if id do something again it would be a bit more advanced, this was only a 2 week project tho.

we are working on a WINGSUIT GAME, 10 week, in 3D ofc
we are 8 Graphical artists (2D and 3D), 3 Audio guys, 5 Programmers, 2 Designers.
I'm ofc one of the Designers.
we are at our... 3 or 4th week, so we are starting to get pre-produktion done and are starting to soon have a Prototype that we Designers and everyone else can start playing whit (adding stuff, balancing)
If anyone is interested my group will present our game tomorrow LIVE from our university.

also why dont YOU try to make it, its not so hard that it might seem at first... try it out, check our the tutorials!
btw, if you do want to play some small free games that are very well made, (maybe not whit gamemaker...) but still some good games.

well, the game that is free to play here was made in 2 weeks (like 1h a day spent on making it) using gamemaker.
