So I've noticed a trend lately amongst the D3Fans community, and it's that a lot of us play Minecraft. I know there was a Minecraft server hosted by a member here a long while back before D3 came to destroy a lot of our dreams and hopes.
A lot of us still linger here because we enjoy the community we've come to know. So why not play something together that a lot of us already enjoy?
Daemaro has mentioned hosting a server, which would be pretty awesome. But I realize funding a server on one's own is a burden. I tried it out for a bit before I realized my server was full of failure since I didn't have people already interested in joining (and donating!)
So this topic is mostly to see how many are interested in playing in a D3Fans server, and how many wouldn't mind pitching in to help keep it alive. I know some people here would probably be able to host a server on their own without having to pay some server hosting company. So donating would probably go towards the hosters electricity bill. Ha ha..
Also, just a tip. 1.3 is coming out next week, which introduces a ton of new features to the game. So if we do get a server going we should wait for 1.3 to come out for the server map.
I'd be interested so long as there are extensive anti-grief measures. I don't want to log off for an hour only to find that everything I had was stolen by the time I got back.
We'd need private chests (maybe with a way to set it to public by the user's choice), blocks only destroyable by the one who put then there or a moderator/admin, and ways to track who placed what block so admins can track who's being a dick and breaking the rules and ban them.
All those things should be possible, since I've seen them all in servers in the past.
I need to get minecraft for my comp. Does it run on Mac?
It might? The Minecraft site is down, so I can't check. I'm pretty sure someone I know, who had a Mac laptop, played Minecraft when he used it as his main computer, so he might've played on that.
People get it to run on Mac but I don't know how. I don't think it works just straight out of download?
Also antigrief stuff could probably be set up pretty simple, would have to be looked into. There are tons of plugins out there for antigrief. Including ones that allow chest permissions, block tracking for mods/admins, protection for your personal areas, etc.
I only know how to pay a company to host a server. Ha ha. I forget the company I used last time, but they had a program that made it pretty easy to attach mods to your server.
I just looked at a few server hosts to get a ballpark, and it looks like it'd be $12 - $30 a month to host a server big enough for us. I have no idea what the point of the price differences are between companies. I'd have to do a lot more research to see who is the best to go with.
I assume everyone is talking about Vanilla minecraft anyways? Not Tekkit or anything (Though we could do that)? If it ends up just being a few people and you don't mind things out of my control like power outages or whatever I can just host it on my PC, wouldn't charge anything.
Internet should be decent too, I've hosted for friends and got 4 people online with no lag. (except massive explosions, which hopefully won't be happening anyways.)
Well 1.3 just hit so maybe we should wait for some mods to update for it.
Is everyone interested in playing vanilla Minecraft or does anyone want to play with some game changing mods? Such as tekkit that adds machines etc, or I'm sure a lot of mods will be for multiplayer now so it's possible we could do some others maybe when they update.
It adds a lot of machines and ores to the game to do some automated tasks like quarries that dig for you, uranium for reactors, oil for engines, copper for wires and other stuff.
Tekkit with a team would be so much better. I'm kind of unfamiliar with it but it looks grand. Buiding huge quarries and piplines to collect the building materials for big projects.
What kind of projects would a diablofans team want to acheive? Lut Gholein?
We could start with this for example after the quarries are built. It would be pretty big :P. Need alot of sandstone and something reddish... You can pipe and convert materials in Tekkit though from your mines.

*cough*
EDIT - Where/what servers do you guys play Minecraft on. Never played with other people before.
How would I make donations? I don't do PayPal.

Came across it while looking, people give good feedback, prices don't seem too ridiculous.
This one might be decent too, not sure:

I honestly couldn't afford to pay for a host. I'm moving out next month so it's gonna be tough for a bit. ~_~

I'll add another poll question at the top. To choose just delete your vote and vote again.

But seriously, Vanilla for me.
Can't we get two servers up, one for each, if enough are interested?
I do play actively and love the fact that I can get a shit ton of a mundane item and, with some trading math, end up with a shit ton of diamond.
