I'm attempting to get a scholarship (I guess you could call it that) to a private "Day School", and one requirement was, in fact an essay. I would like to ask you guys for some help, not too much, just sort of suggestions.
First of all I need to describe myself in one word. I could elaborate well, but I still need a word in itself. I'm not sure what exactly they would expect from me, but I don't want to just say "hard-working", or "smart". I'm open to suggestions, but I believe adaptable was a good describing word, and gave a positive outlook on myself. Please suggest, or tell me points I should make sure to hit.
Secondly, I have to imagine having a pen-pal in France, and I want to describe myself to them. I find this quite simple, but I want to make sure there aren't any points I might miss.
All help is appreciated, and I thank you for the suggestions.

Will be changed at some point, I'm too lazy right now.

I can understand coming here asking for assistance and opinions on a topic that everyone can participate and serve as a "catalyst" for your essay. However, your asking us... who have no knowledge of you or anything about you to help you pick a word that would describe you at best, as well as all of your characteristics and personality..ect.
Seems silly to me eh? aka the sarcasm above me
but with that aside, a good structure possibly would be (using myself as an example). The word I would use is probably "curious", "compassionate", "competitive", "free-willed"... I suppose it depends on the context I was wanting to establish. For a scholarship... curious... intelligent, there are so many words that could describe you, pick one and elaborate.
For the pin pal, easy... start jotting something down as if you were on a messenger typing to someone that knows nothing of you and try to describe yourself and give experiences in your life that reflect that and support it... seems pretty easy if you put some thought into it.
If I had to write an essay. How do you think I would do if I wrote "Paranoid"... I don't think I'd get in now would I? (Even though it's the best word to describe me. As well as Technical)
Otherwise use a noun. An object that best describes you. A food perhaps. I don't know.
'Pie'
Reason- Sweet, round, awesome.
'Seed'
Reason- Always growing. Requires attention.
Ect.
I hope this helps.

It's all been said. The pun, the not so funny joke, the phrase, something about oneself, the not so random picture.
An essay or one word? An essay for any college is basically a bragging manuscript, they want your education, your personality, why they would choose you in the first place, etc.
If your looking for one word I would say motivated or focused.
What's with the thread duplication? Anyways..
A college entrance essay is basically your bragging manuscript; they want to know your education of course but they also what to know you as the person because well why should they accept you in the first place? You have to prove this to them. Most people immediately start labeling their credentials or intellectual achievements, which is good but most of those people fail to put in key components like personality, family (including friends), what molded your personality, etc.
One word, I'll agree with ScyberDragon in using 'motivated'.
Innovative or outgoing or good words that you can elaborate on with multiple meanings of the definition. For instance, innovative encompasses being hard-working, motivated, adaptive and dedicated if used in the proper context. I would say focus on a word that has a broad meaning; one that you can fluff up. Don't forget it doesn't necessarily need to be true either, just try to sell yourself the best you can! Good luck hope this helped.

I have forgotten more then you will ever remember. Do you have change for a nickel? I need three pennies.

I was looking for a bragging word, without sounding like a douchebag. Basiclly anything can describe anyone, I think. I just needed good ideas... I understand what you mean though.

I'd stay away from adaptive. It can be seen as a lack of self-confidence.
I find the word "motivated" to be a great word with no negative implications.
Good one, seems a little common, but still quite descriptive, yet broad. Very helpful, and now that I look at it, adaptive is kind of a neutral word while motivated is farther positive.
