If you have invested more time & a little more effort... that may have gotten a body, and you an A in Art class.
Usually I would say, wow, nice work. No offence but it's just a little too plain.
Maybe it's just me, who knows, you might have a chance of winning something at least.
Good luck dawg!
Fantastic study! It's very nice for what it is. Just continue doing studies and getting familiar with PS. Like Naj said, just put in a little more thought. Do tons of brainstorming for something like the Blizzcon fanart contest.
Look at the work of others. Try to dissect it. Try to envision what they were thinking and figure out why they did what they did. Learn from it and apply what you learned.
There are tons of entries every year by artists with immense skill who do not win simply because they lacked any real originality.
Remember, good art makes you think!

Hey man aewsome stuff here! You really do have the skills man! The sahding and lineart is brilliant
But yeah you gotta put more in man, im guesing you miroe one side over to the other right? Se when you do that you gotta make sure to alwasy repaint on top to make it different, oherwise peple will notice it and you wont get as mch props for the effort.
Yeah also, alwasy ad in that spark of your own flair, either that in your technique in painting etc, or by adding other design elements to just your own composed picture.. it seems you have got the official blizzard pic as your refrence for this.. try to put your on ideas n stuff in, i thnk bliz like that.
If your looking for inspiration turn to luke mancini aka Mr.Jacks art, that dude was a fanartist of starcraft and cos of him blizzard rechanged the whole concepts of the units in their game! which is just ultra inspirational

Your piece rocks my socks off. Lol. But that's good because it makes me want to push myself and think in a less linear fashion. Yeah it's mirrored and in most places it was done pretty early on but at the outer horns it happened pretty late in the drawing so not much was altered.
The piece was mostly me going "Well I like the style, I'll just work on this."
Yeah MrJack is a good dude. I also Like Bluefley(Marc Brunet). I'm kinda more partial to traditional artists like Ashley Wood or going back to Egon Schiele.
Happy to get a critique on it for sure Makes me want to really go for the gold next year. Hmm.... I should get that started. Hah.
And TY to everyone else for the encouraging words or constructive criticisms. It all makes a difference
Yeah to be honest the longer I look at mine the more I wish I hadn't even submitted it. It's just a head floating in space. a pop-tart has more conceptual thought than this thing. embarrassing.
Hey dont think like that bro!! Keep it going man, the best wa t improve is to keep up inspiration and reference at the same time having the attitude that your next piece will involve more effort time and new skills n technniques, do that for the next 99 pieces and watch what stage u get at never get comfortable..
Very true The day I'm content with my work is the day I've stopped trying. I really want yours to place. It totally put me back into the mood for Diablo 1 and 2.
Damn that makes me extra humbled youd say that bro, that was my sole intention man, other than to get intot the fanart gallery ofcourse, i wanted the oldschooolers to love it.
I think the path you chose was the best. It really blended the new with the old. It actually took me back even to reading the Sin War when the main char encountered Diablo within a sewer system (I think. It's been a few years) and talking about how Diablo could change his appearance and such. I feel this works because as the Lord of Terror he would most likely be able to play upon his appearance in ways to invoke all sorts of fear in those he dominates.
I think you took some of the classic, like Diablo 1 classic, and blended it with the newer design. I personally think in Diablo 2 (Though at the time I had no issues with it) his design got somewhat cartoonish compared to everything else in that game. In Diablo 1 he was this horn covered hell lord and they took him into a weird transformation in D2. I love the maturity of design in Diablo 3 but I really appreciate how your piece tipped it's hat to the older days.
I have a prelim sketch of a drawing I started back in 2008 before Diablo 3 was announced where Diablo is dragging the body of a Diablo 2 barbarian. I should update that thing. Hmmm.
