I figured I'd contribute to this section since it hasn't been the most active lately.
This is the very beginning of a skull and crossbones I started working on this morning. I modeled it after a charcoal drawing I did in '06, and now that I have Photoshop... Criticism is much welcomed.
Edit: Also, where is the General Art section? It seems to have been either deleted or merged with some other sub forum.
Give, expecting nothing thereof. ------------ BoD - Come have some fun! Folks will always come and go, so enjoy them while they're meant to be in your life.
General art is supposed to go in the Off Topic forum and be tagged with the Art thread tag upon thread creation
I don't know much about skulls, so it looks great to me
How was I supposed to know all of that? Perhaps change the info in the title for this section then, so future artists know where to put their work. Ya know? Since there isn't a General Art section like it says.
As for accuracy to a human skull, its pretty close, but I did take a little bit of artistic freedom to make him a little more scary and a bit more pissed off.
I like that you chose to give the eyes expression rather than going with just the empty hole from a normal skull. It is not too dramatic but gives the skull personality.

My only suggestion is that you study a couple dozen real skulls and how they're proportioned and how they sit 3-dimensionally.
Your skull is scary, and that's good, but it's also flat and a bit... ignorant. Draw a bunch of quick, realistic skulls, and then exaggerate and add lots of detail. A highly polished but fundamentally wrong drawing has a pretty low ceiling.
Thanks for the input, but I should repeat that this is a very early first draft. The temples, eyesockets, and the jawbone are the main things that are seriously off. But I did the eyes specifically that way, and it will be refined heavily. Most of the drawing at this point was just messing around with different brushes, layers, and random tools in Photoshop. I mean it is my first actual drawing with PS, so...
But I do appreciate the advice, keep it coming.
I'll post an update by the end of this week.
