Wouldn't an Arcane Archer sound awesome? I mean, everyone is rogue this, ranger that. I personally wouldn't like either of them. Stealth is not needed in Diablo. An ordinary ranged character is boring and redundant.
So why not the ARCANE ARCHER? WOO!
Background story; I'm sure Blizzard could make up something good. Maybe they were exiled Amazons whom sought the Sorceresses for guidance. Picked up on their teachings. Or exiled Amazons that went to the Druids/Monks for guidance. Shrug.
Passive/Toggle ability that either adds magical damage to ranged auto-attacks or converts a % of the physical ranged damage to magical.
Active abilities like multi-shot would finally make sense! I mean, who really believes an Amazon can fire 30+ arrows in a perfect arc? Especially while using a crossbow! Lol.
Maybe even have a full skill tree dedicated to spellcasting? Another to ranged weaponry? The final could go in any direction. Possibly even into a spiritual branch, which includes buffs/protection/debuffs.
Alternate mana system? Call it a spiritual system. Somewhat of a Rogue's reverse combo points from WoW. It's 5-10 spheres which depletes when a skill requiring spiritual energy is used, then regenerates when a set amount of time passes. Some skills might use more than one sphere. Limits spellcast spamming, forcing you to rely on physical skills/attacks just as much and choose wisely what skills to use.
Honestly, I don't think this could happen. However, I think it's a neat idea that could be an expansion charater. Anyone else like it?
I would love something like a Frozen Orb but then with arrows. Shoot 1 arrow and it explodes into 30+ small ones all with different elements. Mayhem on the screen
EDIT: Or wouldn't it be a great idea to have a Bow and special Arrows as well? Something like a Sword and Shield for a Barbarian.
Bloodraven's Justice (Bow) *Can use Silver Arrow's
blahblah
blahblah
My only problem with the class is that blizzard is trying not to have an overlap with characters. Adding magic to arrows doesn't make it much different from just casting the magic like the wizard. Maybe if they gave him earth/wind magic it would be different but Blizzard said they are probably not adding any new elements.

Oo I like that idea. Good thinking. Who knows the 5th character has yet to be released so your thoughts may not be in vain!

Why is that so obvious? Quiver is a Arrow contrainer so why would couldn't it regenerate a arrow??
Already talked in that thread : http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23704
It's obvious only because of gameplay purpose... Look at every recent game (diablo-like).
You want run out of arrow and without portals, return to town and break the action and the face-paced intended ???

Yeah I think they want make each class very unique, not only wiz.
I agree that amazon spell is similar to sorc, same kind of damage, only a thing, you need a good weapon to be effective compared to sorc always good whatever the weapon used..

True, which is why I brought up the spiritual thing. More of the non-elemental type damage like the Paladin's Ethereal Hammer. With a limited alternate mana like the one I described in OP, the AA wouldn't be able to spam much without kiting/tanking.

Imho the Amazon was too much of a caster class which made her very boring to play. There was hardly a difference between playing a ranged Amazon versus playing a sorceress, except the Amazon can't teleport.
That's why I want the new ranged class to not have magical abilities, and to specifically have some things that make him/her different from the Wizard.
I don't see how a ranged class could not make him/her different from the Wizard. Most active skills are essentially spell casting in a more physical form. The only way I can think of to make a more unique class that doesn't seem spell casting-based is to create a good alternate mana system and utilize the type of weapon to have a more profound effect in battle.
An idea I had: AA class using javelins. As everyone knows, javelins can be used for melee combat as well as throwing. Perhaps give the AA a kamehameha(essentially a much larger/wider Necro's bone spear) that damages, slight knock back, and leaves a debuff/status ailment. This would cost the AA his/her entire reserve of alternate mana, which could take over a minute to fully regenerate. Now, in Diablo gameplay, a minute is a very long time. You should be done with the current mob and onward to the next. This means that the AA could run up to the targets and attack them physically, taking advantage of the weakened enemies and debuff.
I think that all you have to do is not overpower the class' skills in terms of damage and rather focus on them being a tool set of debuffs and various other effects. Who said the AA had to be elemental?
Another idea I had: Imbues the next thrown/shot projectile to explode/implode with gravitational force on impact. Perhaps it takes 1/2 of the alternate mana system. It would force the target to explode/implode with gravitational force, pushing/pulling enemies from/to the target. Not exactly spammable if you can only use it 1-3 times per group of enemies. Just don't overpower the damage. More of a set-up skill for group initiation(pull together enemies) or solo play(push apart enemies).
I think there's a shit-ton of possibilities with this kind of character. And I wouldn't say unlikely just because we've ruled out all the elements.
