I said 40 spells are nice, even if SOME are useless
5 spells just simply isn't enough, the only class that looks interesting with abilities (offensive) is Barbarian, Wizards and Witch Doctors (besides summonings) look pretty deprived to me.
I'm sorry...what? How many people play Diablo 2 still, all the time. Hmm. How many of you spam the same ability.
Wizards and WD look deprived? Are you blind? Wizard skill tree as of most recent Blizzcon. Go look, read it over, come back here and tell me the Wizard doesn't have enough skills for a game that's not finished and will most likely be tweaked tons over the next year, two years. Not only that, the Witch Doctor has the least announced skills so far, you can't honestly make your judgment based on that.
Also why would you want Blizzard to make an extra 40 useless spells nobody will use, taking up even more development time, even more money? Just for the sake of saying "Oh look at me I don't use these 40 useless skills."?

Don't get me wrong, as I said, I like the arcane idea within the Wizard, however, their is a lack of spells that I have been seeing.
Link above, look at it.

Heres what I am getting at.
If you have 5 spells, what is the point of leveling? To make those spells stronger and do the same thing over again? Pretty much your passives should balance out with your level, and the level of the monsters correct?
"same thing over again" ...yes, this is Diablo. You play the same five acts over and over again and people have been doing so for what, 8 years now?
And as to the point of the point of leveling when you only have 5 skills, I'd like to ask you something. As, say, a Druid in WoW, how many skills do you use in a fight? Not many, right, you have a certain rotation? Ever notice how your skill tree buffs certain abilities but not others? That's called a spec. Same thing goes with any game that has a skill tree in it. Did you have your head in the sand when the rune system was announced by any chance? Each spell is going to have multiple effects depending on what rune you're using.

What is the fun of using the same 5 spells throughout the game?
Again: What fun is Diablo 2?

First of all, no one said there are 5 spells. There are much more than that.
I did actually, but Agent here was taking me too literally. What I meant is there are going to be a handful of spells you use regularly and some you don't, depending on how you spec.

Second, runes change the way spells behave. So, for instance, you could (potentially) have a rune that freezes all enemies when they're hit by Whirlwind. Or maybe sets them on fire. Or maybe it lasts a little longer. Or it knocks enemies back. Or it leaches health. Or the cooldown is reduced. Or it confuses enemies.
Read this, Agent. You might learn something.

Third, the game isn't anywhere near to being finalized, so the sheer amount of changes being made every day invalidates the argument altogether.
But now you'll respond with a pedantic and trivial claim that the game, in some mystical form or shape, has simply displeased you. And I am OK with that, but just as long as you stop using crappy reasoning, like you've been using for the past 5 pages.
Nice post Huck, I can't agree with you more.
Agent, either make sense, do your homework, come back here with facts, or just stop logging in. Please.
to be honest, Huck's description of how runes will work is a bit......hopeful
looking at what blizz has shown us so far, the runes don't change skills THAT much (not like Huck described)....i mean, yeah, making your firebomb bounce or leave fire on the ground is cool, but it's still basically the same firebomb skill! also, teleport....yeah, making teleport do some damage might seem all cool and unusual, but seriously....who's gonna use that? and that's not even considering the fact that teleport is gonna have a cooldown. so, skill runes ARE COOL, but they're no substitute for a bigger amount of skills.
But see, there's a good example of how the game changes. When runes were announced there was no real cooldown on Blink, now there is so I doubt that rune exists anymore, or was changed in some way.

I never said this game would suck, I'm just simply listing some things that I DISLIKE about D3 that I have been reading up on
Of course, I mean, theres plenty of more things that I like about diablo than I dislike, I never said the game was going to be shit..

Nobody said you said the game was going to be shit. I'm only asking that you read up on what you post before posting, remember the game is in development and a lot will change before it's released.

I think the differences between the skills in D2 and skills with runes in D3 is about the same. There are many exemples:
-Barbarian's bash, stum, concentrate and berserker.
-Barbarian's leap and leap attack works almost like teleport / offensive teleport.
-All barbarian buffs are all identical, just change wich bonus it gives. In D3 i believe the rune effect uppon the battle cry (skill that increase defence of the whole party) will be similar (ex: you can add a rune to this skills and change the defence buff to a damage or movement speed buff).
-Sorc's fire bolt/fireball, ice bolt/ice blast/glacial spike, frozen armor/shiver armor/chilling armor, lightning/chain lightning.
-All the 10 necromancer's curses works just like the same skill but with difnferent debuffs. In D3 a class (like the Wd) could have only one curse and runes could change the effect to anything.
-Necro's none wall / bone prision are also just variant of a very similar skill (we can problably have a zombie prision in D3).
-Necro's corpse explosion / poison explosion.
-Necro's clay/blood/iron/fire Golem.
-Amazon's fire/exploding/immolation arrow and cold/ice/freezing arrow.
-Amazon's power/charged/lightnign strike.
-All paladin's aura (similar case to the necromancer's curse and barbarian's warcries).
-Druid's oak sage/heart of the walverine/spirit of the barbs.
-Druid's spirit wold/dire wolf.
-Druid's carrion vine/solar creeper.
-Druid's twist/tornado.
-All assassin's fire traps.
-All assassin's lightning traps.
-Assassin's shadow warrior/shadow master.
-Assassin's selfbuffs.
All those skill groups have similar skills just like a skill and it's runed version in D3.
If they do what they promised (5 runes, every active skill can be augemented by all 5 runes) we already have something ten times more skills in D3 compered to D2.

Faded out her voice and soiled her name
And like marked pages in a diary
Everything seemed clean that is unstained
The incoherent talk of ordinary days
Why would we really need to live?
Decide what is clear and what's within a haze
What you should take and what to give" - Opeth
