Hey all, so I have been speculating, like you all have, as to who the possible 5th class could be and have come up with several ideas.
One of which is a 'Dhampir' - half human/half vampire. A long shot i know but I thought i'd play around with the idea and do abit of a back story on how the character could fit into Diablo...
Hope you all like..
From the writings of Abd-al Hazir -
It must be a strange feeling to be fearless of death.
To be completely detached from all life would be, in my eyes, a fate worse than death. However, one must first be given the chance to taste the good in life before one can miss it. The thought of this saddens me but the reality is that there are those in our world that have never had such a chance...
Over the many years of my life I have travelled far and I now count myself among the most learned scholars in Sanctuary. However, nothing I had seen nor read prepared me for my first encounter with a Dhampir. The encounter I speak of is amongst the most confronting moments of my life, though, I doubt the tale will end the way you expect it to...the way I expected it to. My tale begins with me running for my life...
Time seemed to stop as the dark figure hunting me paused in the shadows.
“Life and Death?” he said - repeating part of my question back to me. The shrill tone of his voice made me shiver in fear. I could tell from the way his expression changed – first deadly, now thoughtful – that my reaction to his vicious approach surprised him. As he glared at me his glistening fangs slid slowly back into the darkness.
“We know both well here my friend.” His bright eyes narrowed and he locked me into his bottomless gaze.
“Why are you here Hazir? This is not a place for scholars to be wandering.” The mention of my name struck me like lightning and I was unable to answer. How could he know my name? Was this someone I had met before? It took all of my resolve not to turn and run in fear from the man hidden in the shadows.
“Yes, I know you old man.” He smiled at my apparent surprise revealing his slightly sharpened teeth and began to prowl toward me again – his body language was no longer enraged but curious.
“You are known among the Dhampir for your extensive writings. We have used your discoveries to aid us in our quest to destroy the ones whom birthed us.” His explanation did nothing to ease the tension I felt in his presence - but the icy fear swimming in my stomach began to turn to burning curiosity.
As the man came forward from the shadows I could finally make out his face. He was dark-brown skinned with straight blood-red hair that ran to down to his shoulders. He made no attempt to move his thin hair from his face. Through the strands of his hair his eyes glowed a lucent blue in the fire-light. Such a contrast of colours I had never seen before! Could this be? I had hoped that I would one day catch a glimpse of the infamous Dhampir but now that I had one lurking before me I could not believe it. The tales I had heard of them were ripe with bloodshed and fear so I had come to expect more of a monster rather than the man standing in front of me. I had indeed studied the vampiric demons that are thought to have created the Dhampir and so I was not so ill-informed - like the majority of people are – as to their true nature.
--- A bit of background spin-off
It is written in ancient scrolls - well past their used-by-date - that the Vampires that served Diablo ‘Lord of Terror’, created the Dhampir in their image with the hope that their children would inherit their strength in a human body. This would allow them to walk through the daylight and amongst a human population without ever being noticed. After spending many years perfecting their blood-binding rituals they were finally successful in creating the first ever Dhampir. He was named Vemenos by his father’s and, if the said scrolls are accurate, he would now be the strongest of his kind. You see, as time passes the Dhampir grow in strength – this is unlike any other demon-kind I have studied. All of my studies have led me to believe that a demon is unable to change it’s form in any way without the use of dark magics. Basically - they do not have a natural growth. If it is indeed true that the Dhampir are subject to change over time, then I speculate that this anomaly is one of the side effects of having human blood flow through their veins.
I feel the deepest sorrow for the mothers chosen as Dhampir hosts for my studies of the blood-binding ritual has lead me to believe that their very souls are sacrificed to Diablo – the Lord of Terror - in order to give their children life. In fact, it has been said that as the Dhampir take their first breath their Mothers breathe their last. I speculate that this fact plays a major role in the Dhampirs relentless motivation to hunt their makers.
From birth the Dhampir grow rapidly and after their first year are big enough to pass as a fully grown human. I have not discovered the precise reasons the Dhampir have chosen to fight for light over darkness but maybe the red-haired blue-eyed predator in front of me would be willing to share his story? After all, I have helped them in their relentless hunt to kill their fathers, albeit unintentionally.
"The demons did not anticipate the strength of the human soul that carried on to us through our mothers. Once we were old enough to learn the fate of our mothers and the plan the demons had in store for us we rebelled against our forced fate and began to hunt our creators as revenge."
So began the Dhampir’s war fueled by revenge.

I am planning on doing a short story from this idea so check out the fan fiction section later on if you want to see what happens in the story.

Yeah, we almost all agree it has to be a ranged class of some kind, or at least a class with ranged elements in it.
You've kept your 'Dhampir' within Diablo, but I find it kind of hard to imagine a vampire who kicks major butt with something either than his teeth or claws, therefore what is the point in him being a vampire or werewolf, if you follow me? Your back story is pretty sick though.
Great thoughts!
PS. I made a thread called The Wraith, a new class. My thoughts on a possible expansion class Either mind power or dark magic of a sort.
Keep up the good work m8!

Thanks! Yes I know what you mean with the whole vampire not normally using weapons Armour etc. But this is the Diablo world we are talking about and what I have in mind for the Dhampir is not quite what you expect.
As the Dhampir is half Human - he is also half Demon (Vampire counts as a demon no?) and this has given him strength, coordination and abilities that no human possesses. However, as the Dhampir is half Demon - he is also half Human and thus, he is vulnerable just like any other hero. Indeed he would need to wear armor in battle as he will also bleed like our other heroes.
The reason Diablo and his Vampiric minions created the Dhampir was to have a demon in their ranks that could pass as human in every way... but hidden in them would be the watered down demonic strengths of their fathers.
As this is the case in my story - the Dhampir are subject to the use of weapons and armor.
I will work on the skill tree later but to give you an idea of what I am planning for the Dhampir see below: (the base skill ideas forming in my head are similar to legolas from lotr but with a Diablo world demonic spin-off. Sounds a lil funny I know but keep reading)
Armour type:
-Medium-light heavy - as the Dhampir require flexibility and speed over brute defense they would primarily wear a combination of heavy leather and light mail.
Weapon type:
- Primary: Ranged - as the Dhampirs greatest strength is their speed and dexterity - they are very coordinated. Their eyesight is also impeccable. Both of these characteristics make them a perfect bow and crossbow user. This primary weapon choice allows them to hunt their creators in greater numbers at a safe distance.
- Secondary: CQC Two curved short swords/cutlass - perfect for utilizing the Dhampirs core strengths which is coordination - parry/dodge/severing arteries/slicing limbs. The Dhampir would be passive-aggressive in CQC - counter attacks and using parry/dodging to set themselves up for their kill shots. Any weapons/defense items that slow them are detrimental to their core characteristics and so any shields/heavy armour/weapons are not used.
The dark powers hidden within the Dhampir allow them to imbue and enchant their weapons with dark magicks making for a deadly & very interesting/intricate skill tree.
Anyway - that is what I have in store for the character so far...when the story develops and I writes some gruesome battle scenes it should all fall into place nicely.

Diablo is about a small group of unique mortals imbued with power to balance the fight between good and evil. Keyword is mortal, not demon. The demons are the bad guys and if that ever changes, we will change the name from Diablo to World of Diablo, and give it two terrible expansions that ruin it further.

A demon wouldn't give a mortal any kind of power like that unless the mortal was loyal to him, or possessed by another demon. Baal isn't about to find some lucky guy on the street and go all "Hey, have I got a sweet deal for you" and imbue him with super-strength free of charge. There's the matter of one losing ones soul in the process.

So that means the Dhampir would have to be the weakest class, and make up for it with enchantments that no other class gets, but wouldn't really make up for it because they won't want to make the Dhampir class too OP so all the Twilight addicts don't choose it.

By all means keep writing story for it, everyone loves fanfics, but honestly I can't see this being a class in Diablo. They belong in urban fantasy novels, and Diablo is far from urban.
As I said I'm not saying these things to bring you don't, just why I don't think this class would work and why I would skip Diablo 3 if it did.
he is also half Demon (Vampire counts as a demon no?)
I think Vampires count as undead. So if he were half human and half undead, would that make him some sort of weird 1/4 deadsy 3/4 alivesy type thing? I'm confused.
Also, unless I'm mistaken, humans in Sanctuary are already half demon, half angel. Granted, there's a good chance that I am, indeed, mistaken.
Also, unless I'm mistaken, humans in Sanctuary are already half demon, half angel. Granted, there's a good chance that I am, indeed, mistaken.
That I have no idea about so we'd need a lore-junky, but I can see humans in Sanctuary having half good half bad in them, meaning the ability to do both good and evil things.
Sanctuary was created a safe haven from the Great Conflict for both angels and demons. The Worldstone was created to shield this place from prying eyes.
Demons and Angels mated, creating the Nephalem.
The Nephalem were too powerful, so the Worldstone was altered to weaken these beings.
After many generations, the Nephalem lost their power and then they became humans. So in the end a human on Sanctuary is half demon, half angel.
Armour type:

...
Ranged - as the Dhampirs greatest strength is their speed and dexterity
I think you're talking about the monk's duty ?
Have you seen 2 skills of the monk where he's make a sort of teleport ? Exactly what I expected for a vampire if it be the fifth class ! !!!
Blizzard want 5 uniques characters with theirs own duty !

No offense taken at all mate - i'm actually really interested in what you all think about the idea and if it would or wouldn't work. Thanks for posting back...

LOL...funny shite...
But the Demons are still the bad guys here...I don't think you are really getting the gist of my idea. The Dhampir were never given a choice to have demonic powers or have their mothers souls sacrificed to give them life.

The mothers souls are sacrificed to Diablo when the Dhampir are born...
Diablo & his Minions were certain the blood-binding ritual would ensure the Dhampirs obedience but they underestimated the strength of the human spirit that was passed on to the Dhampir by their mothers.
The Dhampirs power comes from the blood binding ritual in which the Vampiric Demons of Diablo impregnated the human hosts and fed them demon blood. All thought this process would ensure an evil offsrping... but they were wrong..

But see, to me being born a demon (or, well a Dhampir) would make you 100% under the control of your maker. I don't think a demon powerful enough to make a creature such as this would be weak enough to not be able to dominate it completely.

Well what I mean is one class gets an exclusive enchantment thing, that:
A) makes their weapons look cooler than anyone else's
they're powerful to begin with but the enchantment makes their weapons/skills even more powerful (so in order to be balanced they'd need to be nerfed if un-enchanted, and when they enchant the weapon they're balanced with the other classes.)
I have nothing against Vampires, Dhampirs, hell even Werewolves. I dislike the Twilight books because that woman is a bad writer but in all honesty I liked both movies. Of course I never went to the theater to see them, that would hurt my pride. I mention this so you know my view on this class is not biased by books/movies I've read/watched, just on my perception of the Diablo universe.
Y'know I'm just stuck with my classic Diablo characters, don't let my nit-picking get you down. I know you can't have an answer for everything and all I'm doing is making you need to write more info on it on the spot. Any class could be the fifth class, all it takes is well written backstory.
Basically ignore my nagging all I'm going to accomplish is to make you mad or something and that's not my intention.
I guess you need to understand that the Vampires I have in mind that created the Dhampir are not your traditional dracula - not part of the undead...more a massive dirty demon humanoid that feast on human blood. Diablo style baby!
massive dirty demon humanoid... badass picture just formed in my mind haha.
i think its a siiick idea and i would prolly play as it. the only 2 things i have on my mind are...
1) when i think of dirty huge demon vampires i think of a fast, brutal, life stealing melee class... melee class. i just cant see a demonic looking fanged vampire using a bow. i see them using a dagger or small sword but mostly their claws and teeth mutalating their enemies by running extremely fast at them and tackling them from all 4's... maybe im thinking too much about that new movie "the werewolf". thats what i picture though.
2) i doubt blizz will let another class duel wield. thats kinda the barbs thing.
The Dhampir would have completely different skills, weapons and armor types.
Every characters will be able to wear every armors ! only stat will little bit guide what you can wear first...
Ok I just understand... it's not a story from the sin books ? it's your own story !?!?! lollll
I don't think Vampire will exist in the Diablo world.
i doubt blizz will let another class duel wield. thats kinda the barbs thing.
Right !
so in order to be balanced they'd need to be nerfed if un-enchanted,
If you need to nerf something compared to others, it's mean the balancing are extremly failed !
Otherwise I like the idea of enchanting weapon if you can enchanting weapons of your teammate ! if you can't, I don't really like that !!
I don't think Vampire will exist in the Diablo world.
Hey, they exist.
Not that i liked the class idea, but i think people could be a little more open minded about sanctuary.
We have troll nest shields, dwarven start rings and vampirefang belts. There are many and wierd planes of existance (like the one studied and channeled by the witch doctors).
Anything can exist in sanctuary, even a long haired elf wearing leafs and living in trees.

Cheers

In the Diablo universe the Dhampir would not be on the side of light, it would be a half-dead creature of the pits of hell.
That I have no idea about so we'd need a lore-junky, but I can see humans in Sanctuary having half good half bad in them, meaning the ability to do both good and evil things.
Demons and Angels mated, creating the Nephalem.
The Nephalem were too powerful, so the Worldstone was altered to weaken these beings.
After many generations, the Nephalem lost their power and then they became humans. So in the end a human on Sanctuary is half demon, half angel.

but...
Well actually, the Dhampir could be either. All depends on how the developers and story writers fit the character into the story. In this case I am making the character up and I say that the Dhampir is a pain in Diablo's thorny ass.
LOL...funny shite...
But the Demons are still the bad guys here...I don't think you are really getting the gist of my idea. The Dhampir were never given a choice to have demonic powers or have their mothers souls sacrificed to give them life.
Written in my previous post:
"I feel the deepest sorrow for the mothers chosen as Dhampir hosts for my studies of the blood-binding ritual has lead me to believe that their very souls are sacrificed to Diablo – the Lord of Terror - in order to give their children life. In fact, it has been said that as the Dhampir take their first breath their Mothers breathe their last. I speculate that this fact plays a major role in the Dhampirs relentless motivation to hunt their makers. "
Dude that is just silly... They wouldn't be the weakest or the strongest...All the heroes of Diablo 3 are going to be balanced... and of course the other classes wouldn't get the enchantments and other Dhampir skills...
You really didn't make any sense here and failed to make a point..
Blizzards motto 'There is no such thing as too much power!'
Though you bring up some good points that have made me think.. I feel you arn't letting you're imagination flow enough.
Thanks for your opinions!!

Hmmm, good question...In my story I have made the Vampiric beings Demons that are rather high up in the food chain. I guess you need to understand that the Vampires I have in mind that created the Dhampir are not your traditional dracula - not part of the undead...more a massive dirty demon humanoid that feast on human blood. Diablo style baby!

I see what you are saying but it's not really the same at all. The Dhampir would have completely different skills, weapons and armor types.
The only similarity is that they are fast and coordinated but so are all heros and great warriors

Basically ignore my nagging all I'm going to accomplish is to make you mad or something and that's not my intention.
massive dirty demon humanoid... badass picture just formed in my mind haha.
i think its a siiick idea and i would prolly play as it. the only 2 things i have on my mind are...
Every characters will be able to wear every armors ! only stat will little bit guide what you can wear first...
Ok I just understand... it's not a story from the sin books ? it's your own story !?!?! lollll
I don't think Vampire will exist in the Diablo world.
Right !
If you need to nerf something compared to others, it's mean the balancing are extremly failed !
Otherwise I like the idea of enchanting weapon if you can enchanting weapons of your teammate ! if you can't, I don't really like that !!
