O.k. so lets start with what we know. There are two missing classes.
Now that we got that out of the way it is time to speculate. Most of us can agree that we are going to get a archer/ranged melee class. We also will probably get a "holy" class. A class that might use shields more extensively and finally possibly a lighter/quicker melee char.
Now for the why nots. As far as a hunter class for the ranged. Traps would be cool but I just don't think we will get another pet class. I have said this many times before but jay said they want to create very different clas with no over lap. So what would the other tree be?
As far as pally's go. I just don't see auras making a strong comeback, maybe here or there but not enough for a whole tree (or two in the pallys case). Not to mention no more returning classes.
So here is my idea.
As far as name I'm gonna say knight, just because it is easier to picture (possibly minus the plate armor). I don't know the lore to well to offer a name that matches Diablo. Maybe some sort of horadrim infantry. I use knight because I want somebody who could be versed in many different weapons/fighting styles. Knights were also known to be holy warriors in many cases.
Here is a pic I found to help picture the idea:
tell me this pic is not epic.
As far as trees and skills. first tree would focus on bow/crossbows. knights were known for being well trained in archery both with a bow and the crossbow(my fav.. remeber the needler)
The next would be more shield/defensive. maybe some sort of support skills wielding a shield and sword or mace. He could help why damage mitigation in groups.
last would be some sort of hand to hand combat tree. Knights knew how to use many different weapons and could wield them at the same time. could use skills that increase attack speed.
All three trees would incorporate some sort of holy spells/magic in them. such as holy arrow or divine protection.
This would cover all four of the types of characters we have yet to see. And more importantly leave open the possibilities for the last class.
So what do you think?

Ehhh... It seems like it may be possibly good, but just doesn't match Diablo style imo. And he's too... I don't know what you'd even CALL it... I guess I just feel like the Barbarian is the Melee-Tank, Iron Skin ftw, I don't think we need another tank. Something more agile!

I think that it fits, except for the part of the bow/crossbow. Even if knights had or were linked with it, their restrospection in the game has no relation with bows.Don't think Blizzard would choose bow skills in the "knight".

I agree with the guy up here.
Expcept for the holy part.. It's game that is all about kill demons, a paladin-monk-pirest-like class is a must have just like a mage-wizard-sorceror-like class and a ranged class.
I think they could inovate a little by putting a "holy" rogue. Some kind of church's assassin/agent or a menber of a religious, but rebel, order. This class could mix dagger combat, "stealth", ranged attacks and holy-suportive skills.
That sounds exactly like LoD's Assassin, except working for the church instead of mages.
Assassins don't use daggers (they use katar, totally different weapons).
Assassins don't have proper ranged attacks (only blade fury/sentinel, but that surely don't make her a ranged class).
Assassins don't have proper stealth - Fade do not hide you from anything and Cloak of Shadows was ignored most of times.
Assassins don't have supportive skills.
So i really can't see why my suggestion is a assassin with different background.
First off, stealth is out. There is no need for stealth in an action game.
I also would like the support and ranged combined. Purely for the fact that it would leave the fifth class wide open.
I understand a shield and bow don't really mix. That is why you would probably choose one of those trees and maybe mix it with the dual wield tree. Or possibly press "w" when you are in the thick of it and once you regain your distance swap back.

A ranged class would be cool, especially one that could use secondary melee weapons such as daggers.
It would also be pretty cool, if you could hold down the mouse to make a more powerful shot with your bow, then when things get hectic, swap to your daggers and cut 'em up.
I meant it had the same background as the Assassin, I wasn't talking about gameplay, just the idea behind it. Funny how you got the exact opposite out of what I said.
Sry
But should not have quoted the gameplay parts of my post then.
And only the assassin/agent part are the same.
My second suggested background are quite different. The Assassins are like a policy inside the Vizjerei, hunting down the mages that get involved with demonic magic. My second suggestion is like a group of the zakarum rebels that were banished by the high ranks for some reason and know formed a rebel church outside the zakarum ranks.
Well. I'll leave it up to blizzard for the lore but there is nothing wrong with a holy person using bows and daggers. nowhere does it say someone who uses either of these weapocanvas to be dark and mischievious. Nor does it say someone who is holy has to use a sword and shield and be a support class. Plus it takes out 2 archetypes with one char. I do not want a replicate of the amazon and pally with just different names. I want new classes. I want to play a pet class and I am mad I have to play the fake necro. Don't get me wrong the WD is cool but not to different from the necro to feel like a new class.

I don't think this class will be in the game. Just an idea I had. I am not goingto lie. I probably won't play a ranged or "holy" class. I really just want to fill archetypes to allow new ideas for the fifth class. I'm just defending my idea and changing it based off of responses. Just give me a good reason to change my mind other than Doesnt fit.

there seem to be a few complaints that this class if "half/half" or that the abilities don't match up, but isn't that the same as the amazon's bow vs spear skills? your choices were to go with bows + passives, spears + passives, or perhaps choose a few of bows + spears and have to change between the two (not very powergamey or viable as a build but good for variety). that sounds pretty similar to what's being suggested here, having this class have two different weapon styles to choose from and then some support skills. what i would love would be being able to make a class with which it's viable to put points into both weapon styles.
i love the idea of a class that is ranged and/or uses two weapons at once, with the support abilites of a paladin, or maybe the shouts of a barbarian. i understand the criticism of putting two skill trees that seem to be opposed, but essentially that's what every class has to some extent. you had to choose either to specialise and be great at one thing, or a jack-of-all-trades, whether it's which element to focus on as a sorceress, bow or spear as an amazon, or to what extent curse/spells/summons were important as a necro. i dont think that criticising a class for being half/half holds up well with the other classes so far. that's what being a hybrid class means.
A pure pet-reliant class. Summoning skill tree would have powerful 'beings' to summon, and not measly animal spirits or undead. It would be complex where you can combine this 'pet' with that one, but not with that one, something like that.
Second tree would be buffer spells for your minions and curse spells for your minions' enemies, and a limited amount but powerful attack spells; for taking part in active battle.
Third tree would be godly upgrades and masteries for your summoned 'superbeings'.
I know the argument for this class is that it would not be fun to just sit back and let your minions do all the work, but you really wouldn't be. Like I said earlier, you'd be constantly cursing, buffering your minions and casting your own attack spells. One cool example would be shooting a magic-missile style spell that directs a summon to attack the monster it hit.
Upgrades skills could lead to all sorts of possibilites, such as a room clearing rage mode for a specific minion or a multi-minion maker for another.
I also understand that the WD already takes the spot of summoner and that we have a 0.0005% chance of having one of the unnanounced classes be another summoner, but let's not rule out any expansion pack characters!

i just think he seems WAY too powerful
the ability of ranged aswell as seemingly epic melee combat skills just puts him in a league of his own which is basically unstoppable
which, of course would be amazing but also kinda..unfair ? to the other classes which focus more on one specific type of fighting more or less

I do realize the strain of the char as far as lore goes, but this is just a rough idea of a char. obviously looks and name are changeable

I don't think they should bring the "holy" character back. It would intrude too much on the Paladin territory.

what about 1 tree for bows
1 tree for daggers/ quick attacks/ duel wield
the last tree for holy spells
