For all intents and purposes. To hell with dinky Forest Rangers who live in trees and command woodpeckers. Any Ranger or Hunter character would be much better off with an art style more in line with the Assassin, because if you think about it, a bow is the logical Assassin weapon. It's the closest thing you can get in Diablo to being a sniper.
In fact, that would be an OK name for the class.
Sniper- except brings to mind the rifle
Marksman- I like this name but there's a woman as well
Hunter- still too close to Bird Catcher
Sharpshooter- meh
I can't think of a good one...Assassin makes the most sense. You can keep some of the gadget-themed skills and the poison skills from D2, and then remake the character. It's a bow expert who can also use small blades effectively, and with good poison skills.
Kind of like a hunter but without the nature theme, so you could still throw traps in there, no summons, just all kinds of trick arrows, poison skills for arrows and other weapons, some character-themed support skills like the W. Doctor's spirit tree, etc.
I was thinking about the bow assassin combo. But there won't be any "sniping" in D3, so lose that idea you keep going on about. Those names are not worthy though, but I wouldn't mind the assassin...

I don't think it would come back. Not the same as the old one maybe. A lot of people want the old D2 Characters back. But I don't think, even if they do come back, they'll be the same as in D2. They may be better or worse. Better? You'll be happy. Worse? More complaints. The rest may come back as NPCs in the initial release or playable in the Expansion. It was already announced that the only returning Playable Character from D2 is the Barbarian.
Just accept they're gone and if they do come back they won't be the same either.

You think that was funny perhaps, but no.

To a point I can understand that. But the think of the Assassin as not necessarily doing these long range sniping operations, but using stealth and guile to quietly sneak into a mage's chambers and night and slit his throat or stab him through the heart. Being that they're mage hunters, they probably prefer it up close and personal killing just to make sure the mage is totally dead. Nevertheless, I think you'd have a better argument if it wasn't for the Monk. Entirely different lore, but let's face it, they were totally designed with the gameplay of the Sins in mind.

The Assasin's design in d2 sucked donkey balls.
You're wrong and a half. Her design was great from aesthetics to gameplay. The skill tree though was designed a bit unfairly, I'll admit.

About the Monk though. They were designed with Sin gameplay but with Paladin character. I never played the Sin.. So I wouldn't know as much about how the Sin's gameplay works. I just know its combo attacks. That's just based on what Blizz said. I've played the Paladin though and the monk is definitely a Holy Character.
Ok people seriously need to get over the idea of old classes returning, im not gonna rant about it but seriously get over it, classes will not return but we will see similarities in some of the D3 classes to the D2 classes that is all. Also talking about the 5th class is getting old theres like 50 threads about it already.

True it is getting old. There's also hardly anything else to talk about because of the little info that's always being release. Oh I know something new. Anyone made twitter and followed Diablo on it? I did... I got enticed by the "Exclusive Info" Bash mentioned.. Even though its little he said they're "Exclusive"
I think a few of you missed the point entirely. I don't want the Assassin back exactly how it was. I'm saying that a bow user would be a good fit for the Assassin archetype. Rather than having something like a Ranger or Hunter, which I find boring, they could do a 'professional killer' class that uses bows, blades, poison and stealth techniques. The only adequate name for a class like that would be Assassin.
Ah, alright. But I just don't see a pure bow user actually being able to match up to the 4 new classes. Because they all have ranged/melee attacks. This bow user you're talking about would lack in the melee aspect. I think that's why people are going with the Ranger/Hunter move. They're normally archetypes that delve into using bows but also have a melee aspect. The assassin would also have melee, but the Monk has already taken up the fast combo styled fighting which was the D2 Assassin's style.

The Monk is a.. PallySin actually.

Yes he does have holy magic, but he was designed with the ideas of the Assassin. The fast attacks and the combo system.
So, okay he may not be like the Assassin. But he has similar traits just like what you're saying.
