This is my official theory for the next revealed class. A completely revamped version of the druid. I think, and I believe that Blizzard would probably agree with me, that the druid was the most poorly done class in Diablo 2. The only tree that had any decent damage was the elements, but that was sort of sorc territory. So here is my theory for the revamped Druid class.
Skill tree #1: Shape shifting
As in diablo 2, the druid would be able to shape shift into various animals for melee damage. The difference would be that the druid can still use magic in this form. The skills I suppose would be similar in this form as in the previous game. The shape shifts could help not only melee damage this way, but also magic damage.
Skill tree #2: Bows
This tree would be like the equivalent to the Amazon bow tree. Being able to use a bow in different ways.
Skill tree #3: Life Magic
I believe the magic in Diablo 2 for the druid was... an odd choice. Since when do druids control the elements? They control trees, and animals. And the magic of this tree is focused around that. Magic skills such as adding poison, or other effects, to your attacks. Casting skills on trees to make them your servants for a short amount of time. Using tree roots from the ground to impale your enemies. Summon wolves which leap after enemies and disappear after striking. He controls the forces of life itself. The possibilities for this kind of magic would be all new to the Diablo world and very exciting for new and old players to the Diablo world.
So this is my theory. Even though I REALLY wanted the Necro to be the last class... it doesn't look to happen.
I can see the Druid, the Necromancer and possibly the Paladin being (re)introduced as playable classes once more in an expansion. None of them however, will end up being the fifth class in Diablo III though.
Jay Wilson has stated that the next class will be another from the old games. Druid and Amazon are really the only choices among the seven. The Monk is basically the Assassin with the Paladin's style. The Barbarian is in there. The Necromancer is too like Witch Doctor the for it to be the fifth class. The Wizard is basically the Sorceress. Which leave the Amazon and Druid. Out of those I think the Druid had more to do with the story, being basically the brother class to the Barbarians.
I would be surprised if it was a class from the first game. (And it would HAVE to be the rogue because... they have to have a ranged class... it wouldn't be Diablo without one.)
I would love it if they revamped the druid, when I first got the expansion I made a druid and tried to play it... but ended up really not enjoying it at all. But I loved the style and idea of the druid. I hope they try again.
IGN: Have you confirmed how many unrevealed classes there are, to round out the entire party?
Jay Wilson: There's one more.
IGN: You did mention that it's being revealed next year, and that it's someone from the previous games…
Jay Wilson: I did say that. I probably shouldn't have said that, because we're not sure that's going to be the case. It's just logical, that's what we tend to do. But it may or may not. I'm not gonna answer it, anyway… [laughs]
It will NOT be the druid. Why the hell does everyone keep assuming that blizzard will bring back the druid... or at least give the 5th character shapeshifting.
THE DRUID WAS AN EXPANSION CHARACTER. Plain and simple, he was not necessary to the base game in any form. He is not necessary to the expansion either, but blizzard decided to add him and the assassin to allow us more replayability.
He has nothing that is necessary to make the game complete, and will NOT be part of the release. Only a ranged character will make it, and druids do not belong carrying bows. Blizzard wants to make D3 very D&D and name one game where druids were archers. Druids have always been staff wielders....
Blizzard didn't confirm anything. Its just simple words that people go crazy over. I hate when they do. Seriously, just don't say a word. I HATE when people assume things over a "MAY".
And look, I don't disagree with 2 things:
1- The Druid in D2 was bad. It just was. My friends all agree it was the worse, though some still like playing it.
2-It would actually fit, since the Druid could have both melee and range abilities, which fits in the whole "class are effective at all range".
I personally though don't want to see a Druid. I hate shape shifting. Its always more limited, especially on the look, than its worth.
Yeah really it's tiring me out just reposting my same argument. It will be a druid bowazon cross and don't flame me for the druid part cause i believe this to be true. It is only logical for it to be a ranger because we have a melee tan we have a pure caster two inbetween classes a midranged summoner and a midranged melee as of yet there are no RANGED im talking ten yards away ranged class besides the caster and it isn't melee so we need its just essential in a game to have a ranged melee class. now to what effect its ranged is, is either full ranged capabilities no skills for bow xbow up close or very dominantly ranged because it may either have a skill tree for either close attacks with the bow xbow, or a summon pet tree like the hunter from wow it will not and i repeat not have shapeshifting because a werewolf doesn't use bows. so uhm yeah its gunna be either summon druid bowazon crosss or pure bowazon with a tree for close up skills.

I took that little snippet from the interview as it being someone from diablo 2(i.e. an npc, that will become a class, sort of like the assassin from Natalya in act 3). I'm still betting my money on a bandit type class similar to Elzyx in act 2(the gamble merchant).
Now that I think about it more, a class like the Dhervish from guild wars would be amazing. Melee/ranged hybrid with spear! Course that would be very similar to the javelin tree for the amazon, but still that sounds awesome. It would provide buffs through...uhh..I don't want to say warcries because that's the barbarians territory, but some sort of mechanic.
I personally would love a Druid-Amazon/Rogue mix, but something that I can't wrap my head around is if the new class were to be ranged and have shapeshifting...how could you be ranged in Werewolf (or any other were-thing) mode?

He isn't sure.
They should already know if it is a returning class. In december 2008, they said that the 4th class was playable and that the 5th was still finishing it's concept stage. 8 months later they don't know?
And they didn't say a class from the previous games (at least in that interview, I don't know when Jay Wilson said that), they said someone. So if it's a class, a rogue or amazon is impossible, because they can only be female. And if it's an NPC's class, there are plenty of npcs, could be a bandit like someone said. But it should be a bow class, and I don't remember any archer npc (aside from the rogues).

We'll find out next year.
A male amazon looks VERY weird, but a male rogue don't. They could easilly creat some excuse for a man in the sisterhood of sightless eye.

And a Monk can only be Male. What is your point?
They said in blizzcon that they ill make famale monk.. am I missing something?
Any way i agree with you. My 2 cents is for the rogue.
They could create an excuse for a male rogue, but It would be stupid, imho.
A female monk is not that stupid because the monk is something new to diablo. We haven't seen any male rogues, we know they are all female (how they last for more than one generation? I don't know), but the monk... we haven't seen their culture in the past.
They could come up with anything, Im just saying what is logical and what's not.
"Life magic" is already covered pretty well by the WD, methinks, so switch that with summoning wolfies and other creatures (stronger than in D2) and it looks good
Uhm im not sure you people are reading right. The question asks if its still gunna be a returning class and he said he doesn't know for sure and it isnt the case. >.> that means it most likely won't be and since he first told us Barb was the only returning it's safe to say he'll be the only one with that said exclude any druid amazon rogue thoughts it'll be a ranged class definitely with just one skill tree or some few skills dedicated to close combat maybe a summon tree or a couple of mortal blow skills like i beat you with the bow or xbox?...simple effective and very nice.

It is astonishing that some of you could not imagine a rogue male. There is absolutely nothing holding Blizzard back in creating a male rouge. Now it might not be the exact same rogue as we have seen in D1. The term rogue encapsulates a variety of possible kits. Now on the other hand a male Amazon is absurd, since the Amazon tribe consists solely of women. And to sugest that a Druid would be a marksman is really far stretched.
When people can't imagine a male rouge, they are not referring to the d1 character. I think they are usually referring to the act 1 npcs from d2. The act 1 rouges were all female, and if I recall correctly made up the sisterhood of the sightless eye.
