hey as i was playing diablo 2 on single player and saw the iron golem pop up at the begining. i thought....hmmm alchemist would be a pretty cool class to play.
so im thinking with the use of globes. the alchemist could use some method of using dead bodies to drop more globes. and or have maybe a passive skill to increase the amount of health in a globe dropped.
then he could get the iron golem skill thing. but instead of one item. you could have several items in a radius type of thing. that kinda mixes together into a bigger golem the more items you grab. (problem with this is the necromancer skill, which might come back in expansion)
well this is just something i just thought about and wondered what you guys would think about an alchemist class. seems more like a supporter class. but could have some offensive skills. im not sure. i cant think of anything off the toop of my head.
if anyone thinks this is lame or could be a possibility please post a comment about it.
thank you
EDIT: also i didnt put this in the proper thread for this topic. this should be moved to the classes discusion. if any mod would take time out of there modding. it would be very apreciative. thank you
mmm.... i dunno, for some reason i just dont think this is a good class for the remaining two... maybe just because it's not fully developed or what not... but hmm yeah i dunno, i'd probly just hope for a pally type and amazon type class for the remaining two.
This is kinda like a healer class which they won't put in, it reminds me of the witchdoctor (sounds like it would be bad in pvp). If some more offensive skills where placed in then we would have something
well. its not just that one class idea. do you think there could be a way to have more offensive skills put in place?
and yes i do kinda see how this is a witch doctor type of thing. but still could there be any offensive skills to implement with a alchemist type class.
The difference in my understanding between the With Doctor and the "Alchemist" would be the idea that the WD would use pureply natural things to create disease and stuff. Whereas the Alchemist could use metals, minerals, man-made stuff, or anything really, to create additional armor bonus, additional weapon bonuses, summons, etc.
But even then, like some people said, where's the pure offense here? This would be too much of a supporter. Now, i don't have anything against a supporting class, but all classes need to have their own independence, and this character, as of right now, has none. If people generate ideas as to how this character can have some purely offensive side to it, then I'd love to hear it cause' this class would be kinda neat.

Well you did suggest golem so there could be ways of increasing the different attacks your golem does. an example would be you have a iron golem and it could attacks using a skill you set. an example uhhh the golem would explode sending iron spikes everywhere and then regenerate itself or you could manipulate your golem with potions (Make it an ice, wind, water, or dark golem)
water could seep into the ground and attack from underground
wind could disapear and attack by using wind to fling objects at your enemy.
actually the duels could be interesting, you could freeze your enemy with a ice golem then change it to wind and start flinging rocks, trees and other things at them.
its from this thread. it talks about guns and lazurk. im thinking maybe he couldve had an aprrentice working with him. and maybe lazurk never told anyone the true secret of the gun. but maybe he taught him the powered chemical he wouldve used. so lets say 20 years....lazurk couldve died. he took the secrets of the gun with him. but his aprentice...has not only learned the power...but has learned about more of them. and mixes and trial and error
this could be a possibly good background for a alchemist class.
also in that thread they talk about the exploding potion and gas potion. this could be the alchemist weapon of choice.
Frankly Im not itnerested seeing guns as usuable weapons in the game. I'd love to see NPC's use them though.
And before everyone comes in shitting bricks and going "GUNS WEREN'T USED IN MEDIEVAL TIMES", just remember that one of the earliest "guns" made (I don't know about being used though) was in the year 1411 (keep in mind I'm referring to Medieval Europe and not China). So they defintely existed back then, but as stated at one point, most defintely not mainstream or used often.
But defitnely customizign some neat explosive skills through the use of "Chemistry" and "Alchemy" would defitnely be a enat thing to see. I like the idea of your background, especially since it defitnely supports the idea of the Alchemist's use of chemistry and alchemy together. So long as they don't go too far into the idea of a gun.

well no. thats why i said that lazurk took the gun to his grave. and also in the thread link. its say shtat quek qual. was talking about it. and it seemed like he thought lazurk was crazy for thinking of it. or thats what i was thinking of. so maybe his aprentice wouldve thought that too. so he was more interested in the chemical aspect of it then the weapon gun thing of it.
still no offensive skills come to mind...come on mind think damn you!!!
When I think of "The Alchemist" I immediatly think about herbalism and different recipes for potions. As Doppel stated above, it doesn't sound like a class that would save humanity.
The again, there is such a thing as an "unexpected hero"...
Haven't read much of it, but "the alchemist" doesn't sound like "the hero set out to destroy Hell and its minions".
eh you could be right on that subject. but i was thinking of inovation and something new.
but some things me and a friend was talking about offensive skills. one was that when a monster is near lets say 4 pieces of metal armor and 2 pieces of swords. the monster would be trapped in a metal cage getting stabbed by swords. a problem with this is how to get the armor and swords next to the monster close enough.
another thing i thought of was of an earthy attack. like maybe flame wave? maybe a earth wave. or taking peices of earth and having them magically thrown at the enemy.
idk. if anyone has any ideas. stupid or not. doesnt matter. throw them out there.
Alchemy is trasmutation. Turning one thing into another. such as lead into gold. Though such a transmutation as that is viewed as immoral, as the out going product is not the same as the in going materials. "You only get out what you put in". Such a transmutation would only be possible with a philospher's stone. Which bypasses the first law of alchemy, that of equivalent exchange.
Alchemy is an exact science, an equation. what you put it must be equal to what you get out. You cannot make something bigger or turn it green. Not without transmuting it with something else.
Yes, in Diablo 2 making an Iron Golem is alchemy. You transmute an iron golem from a metal object and the abilites of the golem are proportional to the material you used. Armor has high life for the golem while a weapon has high damage.
Though in theory size and mass should also apply. Transmuting a 3 foot dagger into a 6 foot golem is not equivalent exchange. The golem should be roughly the same size and mass as the dagger used.
Yes if you wish to know about alchemy, Full Metal Alchemist, the anime and/or the manga is quite enlightening. Though some of the moral stances taken in FMA do not apply in the world of Diablo. Making an Iron Golem requires a portion of someone's soul. A whole one if you wish to have it live for a long time. And that is Human Transmutation, which in the world of FMA is forbidden. This is not taboo is Diablo.
Alchemist is a possible class but probably more of a expansion type. It won't be in the initial game.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
That doesn't exactly disprove the point that human transmutation is taboo in Diablo. He traded his soul not transmuted it into a suit of armor for example.
That's Faust not Fullmetal Alchemist.
I'd love to see alchemists in diablo but I dont seem them as playable classes, at least not one of the initial 5.

I've always thought of Diablo as realistic fantasy genre, by realistic I mean, it uses more of a traditional style of myth and legend. Battle Alchemist doesn't fit quite right, just as battle Clerics or battle Healer types don't fit right - Although Alchemists, clerics, healers, herbalists etc all have their place - as scholars and NPCs
There should be alot more Alchemists in D3, not just your run-of-the-mill blacksmiths and merchants. I dont think they've expanded on the exploding potion idea from Diablo 2 though (probably removed it?)... shame
@ Elfenlied: yeah, but the point was that mana = soul, so when the Necromancer uses mana to create an Iron Golem he actually uses part of his soul...
While mana does mean soul in maori and other pacific island cultures its not so much the soul in Diablo. it's more like a magical force or entity one can tap into. It's an ebb or flow Not so much a person's soul.
But yes if you view it the way you speak of then yes.
