Why put a enemy in a hole is stupid ?
In one side it would not be effective against crowds of small monsters, monster that climb and flying monster.
But it would be veyr effective against larger mobs, once you could trap then and kill it from distance.
And why invisibilty+kill is OP and horrify + kill and teleport + kill isn't ?
Because those things cost MANA and are limited, like ALL other diablo skills.
like i said, it has to have a longer cooldown or only lasts a second. horrify makes monsters run away for like 1 second. a stealth has to last very short as well.
plus, horrify wont (shouldnt) work against all monsters (kinda like howl from d2). so if i have stealth i could just go up to diablo, invisible, hit him, invisible, hit him, i nvisible, hit him? no, thats why you need appropriate cooldowns or have invisible not work against some high levels monsters.
instead of an invisible id prefer some kind of wind walk that lets you move much faster and you become semi invisible like a shadow where your dodge % goes up huge. if you hit a monster you come out of wind walk, but hitting a monster while in windwalk would give you like +200% damage. that way you can still move to high priority monsters very quickly and escape when needed without it being imba like invis.

1) Horrify have a very short duration because you can keep attacking your enemies after cast it. And the mask durats 5 second, the 1~2 seconds duration is the fear duration. A stealth would logically reveal yourself when you attack that why it does not need such small duration. And of course it may have some cooldowns, like 5~10 seconds after break, but not that huge 5min you said.
2) Stealth may also don't work against all monsters (some may have some kind of detection skill).
Of course bosses will have this feature, so this possible exploit would never exist. To make it not worthless against boss fights, they could just decrease it's duration against bosses drastically.
And invisibility is not imba. Balance is just a matter of numbers, nothing more. Giving it a proper duration, mana cost and cooldown, stealth can be easily implemented in this game.
Have a stealth class would be great because that would bring a huge inovation to D3. We never had a proper stealth class and this mechanic may creat a class totally different from everything we saw in the previews games.
The Wind Walk you have suggested seens like a variation of burst of speed. I don't think it's a bad idea, but it just not bring a whole new concept to the game (also fast run speed are one of the features of barbarian's berserker tree).
For PVP stealth would have it's limitations, like take damage would reveal you. So when a enemy use stealth you just have to foreseen where he is based at his movement speed and use the wider AOE skill you have to reval him. This kind of duel would be so much fun.
No javelins again, pleease! Seriously just make a rogue/assassin cross combination. Someone great with bows, traps, and daggers(regular, throwing, and punch type). Stealth could be used to get past tanklike monsters and set destructive traps, as well as take out summoner/support/resurrecting type creatures in advance. Detecting and disarming traps set in level design could also make this class cool. The assassin class in Diablo 2 was weak, so this couldn't be another assassin. Call this new character Night Hunter or something similar referring to a roguish type with deadly special abilities that is quite capable of singlehadedly hunting down demons and their ilk with skill, cunning, and precision.
