My suggestions for a new class and sorceress replacement is the Arcanist. It would have these 3 trees:
Psychokinesis- this tree focuses on moving moving things with one's mind. (also known as telekinesis but this sounds cooler) There would be abilities that can pick up things like rocks or corpses to throw at enemies.
Arcana- This tree focuses on producing solid arcane energy; it can make projectiles and shields
Energy infusion- this tree focuses on the ability to imbue objects with energy making them highly explosive. It can be used to make things suck as traps or bombs that do AoE damage.
Most attacks would be made of dark blue and purple energy. Arcane being a new type of damage supports this class. Any suggestions are welcome.
While it sounds cool, I'm wondering how this would work in practice. How do get the projectile to hit the desired target/get the desired projectile to hit your target, without spending time moving the cursor (which would not work, as it's too slow of a process).
With the destructible enviornments in Diablo 3, I think you could make that work very well. You're standing by a pile of rubble when you decide to use the throw projectile skill, and the game automatically picks the closest piece of rubble and flings it at an enemy. This would also be another element of the game, to basically find ammo for that skill. It could really bring Havok physics in the spotlight.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
But.. that's just one skill. I thought you were talking about a skill-tree here?
Well, the skill tree wasn't my idea, but there are a lot of different skills that could go under that kind of tree. As for Half-Life 2 and Dark Messiah, I can say that it's like the gravity gun from Half-Life 2, but I'll have to ignore your comment on Dark Messiah since I never played it.
