Based on how the Diablo games have been played, it is clear that every character created was unique and played a different role.
We have the caster - Sorceress
We have the rogue aka melee/bow user - Amazon
We have the dark magic user - Necromancer
We have the down right in your face melee - Barbarian
We have the holy warrior - Paladin
Additionally, in the expansion they added 2 classes.
The Druid - controls the elements of nature
The Assassin - trap user / shadow skill / martial art user
Blizzard has release information saying that 5 classes will come out.
Two of which are the Barbarian and Witch Doctor.
That now leaves us with three more choices.
I believe that the Druid and Assassin were really only for the expansion and are not truly classic characters.
So we have four choices here.
The Paladin, Sorceress, Amazon, and Necromancer.
If I were to guess I'd say that the Necromancer is a goner since they have created a character with similar qualities.
Any ideas on which you think will stay?
What you want to come back?
I would like to see a revamped Druid, with more focus on shapechange - don't care that much about the others, I'd rather see some new classes.
I hated the Druid mainly because elemental was so lame and originally under powered... and Pets was also a REALLY average sub tree.
I would like to see the druid if they revolved his whole essence around shape shifting... Maybe add some pets, but not have one entire tree devoted to pets.

"If we're actually making the game worse with no other reason than to be different from WoW, then it's a bad choice." - Jay Wilson (D3 lead designer)
Amazon and Sorceress are negative as both come form all-female groups and ipso facto all Diablo III characters have gender choices then both become obsolete.
I have a feeling the only Diablo 2 Classes returning are going to be the Barbarian and Sorceress. The Witch Doctor looks really fun to play as so I'm happy with that new class, but I'm sure the majority of the classes are going to be new.
i want inquisitors! And another dark, intimidating char like the necro. Only problem is, half demon has been done to death (espescially considering some edyrem are) and if I hear someone else suggest a class out of Conan I will stab them with a demon's sharpened spine. I'm thinking a pale master, for those of you that know your way around d&d.
I don't understand why they brought the barb back first...of the original D2 classes, he's definitely the lamest.
That's exactly why they brought him back. Well he wasn't the lamest in my opinion but he definitely has huge potential for improvements.
Also no more paladins class, let someone else have the fun. I don't know what they're going to do with auras but it is a fact that most auras in D2 sucked which was just a huge waste gameplaywise.
And a support class like the paladin; with the ability to heal
this one really convinced me ... it makes sense! there's always a support/healer class..
well....
it may be n00b / idiot speculations ... I love Diablo, but I never read any book of its universe etc.... so pardon me if I'm writing any stupid opinion....
but have you watch the artwork video released when diablo3 official site was created ???
one part of the video shows a fat old guy with a staff on his back... maybe some kind of mage ?? and before him, we can see a slim odd-mage-looking guy .... they don't see enemies to me.... are they any character from the diablo universe, or maybe the new classes ?
and just after these two, a strong woman, wearing fur, claws, leather and carrying a snake is shown.... druid looking class....
some days after the official site was released, they removed this artwork video.... anyone know why ?
they accidently revealed the new classes or is there any other reason that I still don't know ?
the sorceress is a shoe-in. I also think they will keep the paladin, and have something similar to the amazon (anyone else see a chance to bring the rouge back?) I do think that the necro is a goner because of how similar the witch doctor is.
This is not WoW gu_nemesis.... there are no support characters.... if blizzard makes a char, they intend the char to be able to deal direct damage either through physical, magical or pet damage.... so that all chars that are playable can solo the game if wanted.... so please... dont suggest any more healer support classes...
Yes... barb is only returning... as stated in one of the msot recent Jay Wilson interviews

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
hey ox, I`m not suggesting a support/healer character for blizzard or something... I`m pretty sure that they are not going to read it anyway .... (and this is not the suggestion room) don't worry, take it easy
I was just wondering that a character with similar skills, like the old paladin (ok, he's not a PURE support/healer class, but he does it, huh?), *maybe* would be included ... that was just a thought
, ok?
It's funny that people say the Witch Doctor is a lot like the Necromancer, I believed that at first but I immediately realized that it was more like the Assassin than the Necro, just functionally, I mean it look a lot like the necro in a sense on the outside, it's just that how everything is executed seems so much more like the assassin.
Of course the Assassin is not magical and can't summon...it's just that how they go about fighting seems the same, they have the fire blast thing in common, most of their attacks are explosive, even terror attacks. On paper it seems like the Necro, that's all.

what about almost every single WD skill we've seen being an alteration of a necro skill?
Fire bomb=trang set fire ball
exploding pets=corpse explosion to a point
enhancing=curses but backwards and only on enemies
soul harvest, i never seen it. What is soul harvest?

Paladin however remains open.
remember that you are one of many, and Blizzard Entertainment will not feel that same as you.

The Barbarian was an awesome character; who doesn't love to smash everything in your path?
