Hoping this is right section. I love Diablo story - always have. With D3 coming out tomorrow there is an arsenal of stuff coming out. One of the most famous being "The Order" book, with 8 free chapters (7?) for view. However, it's coming out on the DAY of D3. Guess I'll read it during work's slow points.
My question is, in the book it refers to the King's Son from D1 (The kid who wanders into the Cathedral to become Diablo) when Cain is talking about him, but then ALSO refers to him being the Dark Wanderer. Is this just a typo they missed on fact check? Some of the stuff still confuses me but I'm 99% sure the Warrior class of D1 killed the prince, and took the stone thinking he could contain Diablo thus making him the Dark Wanderer. The mage became corrupt with the death of Diablo, and became the mage-dude. And the rogue became corrupt and becomes the Evil hunter you fight early on in D2. Is that right?
p.S. If anyone has any other free stories I'd love a link.
I am not a lore expert but I believe the king had two sons. The younger son became diablo in D1 and the older son is the dark wanderer in D2. Basically the D1 Warrior is one of the kings son. I believe they added this in some point after D2, most likely to make D3's story more coherent.
I've heard similar things to what you mentioned about they rogue and mage becoming the summoner and blood raven but I'm not sure if it's official lore or not.
They ret con'd the dark wanderer to be Leoric's old son, and they confirmed at a Blizzcon Lore Q&A that the rogue and mage became the 2 aforementioned characters in D2.
It's as the poster above stated - Blizzard ret-conned the Dark Wanderer to being King Leoric's elder son, Prince Aidan.
When Leoric started to go mad after coming to Tristram and having his mind invaded by Diablo, he sent his army of Khanduras on a march west to war against Westmarch. They were miserably defeated. Lachdanan, the knight-captain of the army of Khanduras, returned with the remnants of his army, including the King's eldest son, Prince Aidan. They quickly discovered that the king, Leoric (the Skeleton King in D3) had gone mad, and they killed him.
Prince Aidan then usurps the role of the Warrior from Diablo I, entering the catacombs beneath the Horadric Cathedral and eventually slaying Diablo. Convinced that he could only contain Diablo inside his own body (much like Tal Rasha did with Baal), he shoved Diablo's soulstone into his forehead, from which Diablo then corrupted Aidan's mind, turning him into the Dark Wanderer.
For purposes of lore, the Warrior from Diablo I = the Dark Wanderer, the Sorceror = the Summoner from Diablo II, residing in the Arcane Sanctuary and target of the quest "The Summoner", and the Rogue = Bloodraven in Diablo II, found in the Burial Grounds of Act I and target of the quest "Sister's Burial Grounds".
In terms of the lore, all three fought together to kill Diablo, but Aidan was the only one to absorb Diablo's soulstone. All three eventually went mad and had to be killed. Makes me wonder what happened to the Paladin, Barbarian, Amazon, Necromancer, Druid, Assassin, and Sorceress from Diablo II. Although I think maybe the Sorceress was the one in the Wizard short story from the reveal site, Isendra.
Hope that helps.
Ahhh, I see. So the eldest son is the warrior, and the youngest is Diablo. Very nice - I didn't know the king is the Skeleton King in D3 but I guess it mades sense.
@Sexton, I also wanna know what became of the classes from D2. The Barbarian in D3 is actually the same barbarian from D2 according to a B.Net post I read. The rest - I dunno. I think the Soreceress is Isendra as you said. But being 20 years, some of 'em could just plain ol' be dead by this point.

First, my handle isn't Sexton, that's my forum rank (based on # of posts). My handle is pskfry, it's in the red bar above where it says Sexton. This confused me for a while too, don't worry.
Are you sure the Barbarian in D3 is the same one from D2? Source?
EDIT: on a side note, I had to do some work in Excel for awhile and when I re-alt tabbed "The Order"s websites built-in PDF thing isn't working anymore. I was really into it.

For the longest time I thought to myself "Damn this Sexton guy sure is active in the forums!" lol

It gets kinda fucked up every so often - just refresh and it'll work again, you'll just have to page back to your old spot. I got through the whole thing too it was awesome! Really conveys that Diablo feeling.
The D3 barbarian USED to be the one in D2 but I think they changed their minds on that and now he's not the same one.
Correct. The D3 barb is now another barb that was gone during the Mt. Arreat explosion. I think they said it confused the story too much having him be the SAME barb from D2, so they changed it.

http://www.diablowiki.net/Barbarian I'm at work and B.Net is loading extremely slow so I can't find the blue post.
Actually, I think the blue post is on the wiki
