Yes. But we are talking about this quote and its context is Imperius talking about what is to be done with Inarius. Inarius was clearly Imperius enemy, and the council descided that it was better to "team up" ith Mephisto in this case. Imperius justification for this was saying that since He and Mephisto had they same enemy (Inarius) then they were friends for now.
I state this to say that in the same way Imperius could justify teaming up with the Three again.
Possibly. I'll kind of be disappointed if he outright teams up with them though. Maybe helps them in some way, but if he's down in hell or in the middle of a demonic sanctuary I just won't like that very much.

I know that a lot is written but I hope some of you will read it.
Some of you said that its unlikely that Imperius would want to get help from demon, but could it be possible that he would want to use them for some purpose and also have an easier time getting rid of them.
What i'm thinking about is Deckard Cain, I don't remember perfectly the detail about him from Diablo 1, but I think he said that he was one of the last of the horadrim(or that might be wrong), If i'm right the point is he still live ,he the last one, of course it could be the complete truth or maybe there is a reason why he still live. What if Imperius was Deckard Cain, if that was the case we could think about a lot of thing.
In diablo 1, Diablo made his appearance, Diablo made a lot of trouble for Tristam killing the king manipulating Lazarus(I think) and probably some other thing but after that he was a problem for Imperius so an aventurer came to Tristam and got help from someone named Deackard Cain. Imperius(Deckard Cain) maybe was not strong enough or just wanted to let other do thing for him. He Started helping the adventurer already knowing that if he was able to kill Diablo he would become possess and seek the help of Diablos's brothers.
By those action, Tristam and other thing were destroyed, Diablo got killed but got into a human body.
In Diablo 2, once again there is trouble in the world and adventurer came to help, they started to help for minor problem like a cave full of monster or a corrupted person and eventually saveed Deckard Cain in Destroyed Tristam where he still was not killed. After that Deckard Cain helped the adventurer to do a lot of thing that leaded to killing andarielle, killing durial but being too late to avoid the soulstones from being taken away, then came the death of Mephisto, going to hell killing again Diablo, destroying soulstones. After those thing came the problem of Baal who ended up at the end in the room of the worldstone, he was killed and Tyrael broke the Worldstones which was supposed to make it harder to get to Sanctuary and/or Hiding it from the heaven and hell.
The result: Mephisto and Diablo Soulstones destroyed, but I think it was not said that Baal soulstones was destroyed, The Worldstone also destroyed which helped for accessing sanctuary. Sanctuary crippled, Hell lost some helping hand.
Then Diablo 3 come, 20 year passed it was said that most of the heroes from Diablo 2 had gone mad or don't want to think of the past, the people of sanctuary think of that past as legend like someone had changed the memory of the people. In the gameplay video we rescue again Deckard Cain in a place full of Undead and he still all right like always(how old is Deckard Cain).
With all those thing that happened I came to think that there may be more to Deckard Cain than it seem he could be Imperius that would have helped the people of sanctuary and the demon resulting in both place weakened so it is easier to destroy human and demon with the Worldstones gones.Of course it still possible that Deckard Cain is a normal guy who don't die because he is simply there to help us in ours fight through the games of Diablo with a lot of knowledge because of him being the last of the horadrim, but I can't be certain.
Since Imperius is , I think the archangel of war my idea could be possible since in war there is also strategy and an angel of war could have a lot of wicked strategy.
If Deckard Cain is not Imperius he could still be an important creatures that exist in the lore of Diablo.
Thank you for reading I might have some bad writting in some case but I hope its not too bad.
As I suggested, I don't exactly think he would team up with them. He's too cocky to consider them friends in my opinion, but I wouldn't be surprised if he used them to destroy sanctuary. Assuming his attempt was the act of D2. Or even D1 and 2.
Let us assume that Imperius aided in Diablo's coming to the mortal realm not once but twice. The first time (D1) he thought it would be simple, assumed Diablo could handle it himself. He however, underestimated humanity, as the "warrior" from D1 struck down Diablo. This was because Diablo was unable to attain the power necessary to take on the world before he was stopped. If imperius had something to do with the fact that Diablo then took over the wanderer and set out to find his brothers, under the radar, and able to draw enough power, he was sure they would succeed.
Unfortunately for him, Tyrael unknowingly put a damper on his plans by aiding the humans to defeat the Prime Evils. This would explain his anger with Tyrael, for thwarting his plan that he was so confident in. And to explain his intentions when doing this, he was already pushing to destroy Sanctuary, but was turned down due to the votes. This could be just motivation for him to go behind the council's back and assist the demons a bit, in order to get them to either take out Sanctuary, or appear as a great enough threat to justify the destruction of sanctuary by the angel council.
The reason I feel that this could be possible, is that would make Imperius responsible for the acts of D1 and D2, giving him substantial background in the series to make a good main villain in the third. This is necessary because it's important for the main villain to not seem as though he just showed up.
This is to say that he was never really befriending the demons, just using them as his pawns. So although befriending the demons doesn't fit his personality, using them is not much of a stretch for him, as long as it's going to help him achieve his goal in potentially taking out two birds with one stone, so to speak.
A side note, some people have mentioned that the image of what we assume is diablo in the trailer, appears to have 3 heads, two of which are on his shoulders. Would it be impossible for Imperius to somehow have allowed the spirits of Diablo, Mephisto and Baal to become one physical being? He could then use them as his ultimate pawn. Just a thought.
I have to say that this is actually one of the few lore points I feel dead-certain about.
The idea isn't that currently living mortals will suddenly be able to overthrow the High Heavens and Burning Hells, but rather that the generational weakening will be generationally reversed. The Worldstone ensured that each generation of the Nephalem would be born weaker than the last, resulting in the mortals/humans of today. Basically, Inarius employed the Worldstone as a malgenic device against the Nephalem. With it destroyed, mortals can, with each passing generation, regain their power and draw closer to their Nephalem origins.
I'd pay close attention to younger NPCs, like Leah.
Obviously, I could be totally off-track -- we all could be -- but that is most definitely my interpretation of what happened with the Nephalem.
Makes a lot of sense. Considering that 20 years have passed since the destruction of Worldstone, and that all the power it contained was released, could all of it been absorbed by 1 human born at that time... That child is now an adult, and the Heaven is worried about his/her power.
Before reading this thread, I'd think that the shining sword on the breastplate was a mark left on Tyrael by the radiation emitted by the Worldstone, when he hurled the sword at it. (If the sword hit the stone not by its tip, but by its side, perpendicular to the ground )
By radiation I mean emission of energy ummm... magic

The exploding angel is not Tyrael. Looking through the rest of the concept art, and the image on the main page of the D3 site, it is clear that there are two Archangels.
The exploding angel has a winged helm, while the angel on the main page, in a concept sketch, and another image in the concept art, does not wear a winged helm, but instead a hood as we've come to know Tyrael for wearing.

Definitely looks like two different angels to me especially if you look at the sketch at the top of the first page, the one in the bottom right appears to be Tyrael to me.
I doubt this hasn't already been mentioned, but the sword is NOT upturned. It's facing down. I'm sure it could be a mistake, or Blizzard just decided to change the symbol. Just some food for thought.
Actually a UPturned sword would be facing that way. It's tricky wording.
I'm sure that's what they meant by upturned anyway. Could you imagine it being the other direction on his chest?
Think about it, the natural way you wield a sword is like this:
So if you upturn it it would be with the hilt on top.

It was stated already that the definition of an upturned sword is a sword with the hilt facing upward.
Maybe Imperius won't have a big of a part as I thought, but I'm almost certain he will be casting Tyrael from Heaven for Tyrael destroying the Worldstone.
I think it'd be neat if the expansion for D3 was Imperius coming down and you having to destroy him possibly or something.

You know...what if Imperius gave Tyrael the same judgement he gave Inarius?
Instead of just being cast from heaven (which I think is unlikely)...Tyrael would be turned over to the Three to do whatever they pleased with him...
If Tyrael wouldn't have destroyed the Worldstone, it could've served as a conduit for the forces of hell into Sanctuary, while still keeping the angels out.
So.. No, I think he'd actually be pretty pissed everything went south.
If hell wants Sanctuary now, they'll have to do open war against Heaven again, which is precisely what the three wanted to avoid; It's essentially futile. The Great Conflict have been ongoing for a presumably endless stretch of time, leading nowhere.
True...but it is speculation. Many would argue that Baal wanted the Worldstone destroyed and wanted to frame Tyrael into doing it so he would be cast out. Other argue that Baal wasn't powerful enough to destroy the Worldstone (being that it was created by angelic magic; Inarius)
So we aren't sure of Baal's motive. It could have been his plan all along. Now that the Worldstone is destroyed the nephalem will start to gain power. This is what the Evils were counting on. Using mankind as a jump on the heavens. With mankind opened to their full potential, this power could be harnessed into destroying Heaven once and for all.
All of you guys are geniuses! This thread is amazing.
But I have a question... How would Imperius cast Tyrael just straight to hell to be whipped around by The Three? Tyrael has to be close to equal power, doesn't he? Fill my brain with more knowledge!
(and don't get me wrong, i've been a hardcore Diablo freak for years. I've read the 3 novels that aren't the Sin War ones and i'm orderein' those soon!)

Well it's suggested they're all around the same power, but I don't think anything ever proves this.
My thoughts about the council are they all have varying degrees of power not so much that one of them could solo the whole council but so that things kind of even out. They agree to work together as a council because if one decided to act on their own the other council members would take them out. (I could be wrong though)
Angels in Diablo are all about order for the most part.

Well I wasn't implying that Imperius would do it on his own...but I would definitely say that he would be behind it. As powerful as Tyrael is, he is no match for the whole Angiris council. Just as the council handed over Inarius (which we know was one of the most powerful angels) to Mephisto, they could easily handle Tyrael.
Like Daemoro said, we have no proof, but it is logical to think the council was close to equal in power (but we do know that some angels are greater than others, the Sin War talks of how Inarius was one of the greatest and most beautiful). Its really all speculation, but as far as we can tell the strength of enforcement of the Angiris council is found in its numbers.

Why ISN'T it a blazing sword?
A traditional cross and a sword look near the same. Especially when made out of light.
