I happened to notice something today: In the beta, you must destroy the 4 pillars to gain access to Leoric. The pillars, once activated, bear a striking resemblence to the the pillars Tyreal activates in the end cinematic. Coincidence or hint?

Hint of what? A good idea is to always have a theory first and then look for the evidence
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

The only connection is that they're pillars. You can't really do much with them except different details. And apart from both designs burning at the top I don't see any other connections.
The only possible connection was that at some point the Cathedral use to be a sanctuary for the Hordrium(sp?) which is the same for Mount Arraet, so it is possible they were constructed by the same people.

Nope... the barbarians didn't let anyone get near the Summit and they were around longer than the Horadrim.
