He's definitely one of my fondest memories from the original game. At that age his line came as a terrifying shock. Even knowing when and where he would come from on subsequent playthroughs I'd spend my time clearing the rest of the level first, just in case I needed kiting room.
Good times.

"For the price of one bullet you can eat 4 hotcakes." - Vash the Stampede.
Basically, Act 1 will have no "new" bosses. It's all stuff we've seen before, such as the Butcher. Since this is already a spoiler thread, I might as well just say it:
King Leoric.
I never got to play D1, and since for the most part it seems like it doesn't run on newer systems, I sadly won't get to, but the fondness for which people look back on this boss makes me really excited to fight him.

I remember reading about this awhile ago. I was a little surprised but i guess its a nice throw back to the original game. I'm hoping he's as much as a challenge as he was during Diablo 1 lol. Remember all the fun times of saving my game before opening the door to his dungeon and then running like hell!
Bringing back the Butcher is fucking cheap ass lame.
Okay, so you don't need to even contrive a reason to bring the infamous Butcher back, right? I mean, they're demons and they can all come back whenever they want.
It's just a stupid way to cash in on our nostalgia. The Butcher was special in D1. Anyone who didn't play D1 couldn't understand why. They didn't bring him back in D2. Things were more sacred then, such as our memories. It was stupid enough they brought back the Skeleton King and he had the same line about the whole warmth of life in my tomb thing but which sounds lame somehow in D3.
And they made references to the Butcher in Warcraft 3 and I think...WoW. So yes, we get it. The Butcher existed. I totally get it! But why sully our awesome memories of him by just throwing him in the game? He'll never be as terrifying as he was in the first game so to make him reappear would just be fucking cheap.
It's like the goddamn Wirt's Leg reference. Leave that shit to rest already. Stop abusing people's goodwill with stale jokes. And if you put the Butcher in D3, it's gonna be such an affront to fans of the original game. And I totally embrace D3 so you can't accuse me of just being some crazy ass D1 loyalist. I'm just saying, you don't need to make references to EVERY thing that existed just for the sake of nostalgia.
I even got mad in the Eastern Sun mod when Lachdanan appeared in Act 4. I was like, "No! We killed him. We saved his soul. Just let him rest now!"
Eh, never really cared for the butcher. Not even when I played D1 way back when. His only memorable contribution is the "Ah, fresh meat" sound clip. So I really don't have much of an opinion on whether or not he returns. I'm not jumping for joy, but I'm certainly not butt clenching and going "D'ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh, they ruining my nostalgia!!!!"

Pretty sure that's just fan art.
