So far we pretty much know Diablo will come back in the form of a female. On top of all the images we've seen at Blizzcon, when Blizzard is asked about it, they simply say "Diablo can take any form" (paraphrased).
If that's the case, isn't it an obvious choice that Leah would be the one that is "corrupted"? In the cinematic scene, she's confronted by Azmodan and the Prime Evils in a dream. Obviously the dream has some significance, and what other female character in the Diablo universe would Diablo choose to corrupt?
What are your thoughts? Am I completely missing something?
I dunno, man. I mean, yeah, if you saw those pictures of Leah's sprite in both normal and "corrupted" forms, then it makes sense that she could become corrupted.
It makes sense that he would take over Leah since Cain's body would be probably to weak of a vessel for Diablo. He can't do much with that; I think that his power is directly proportional to the strength of the person he wishes to corrupt.
Diablo 1: Corrupted Leoric's youngest son, killed by Wanderer
Diablo 2: Corrupted Wanderer, significantly stronger with more powers
The Wanderer is stronger than some fucking kid. It just makes sense to me. As for what he might see in Leah, it could be purely strategic since she knows of Azmodan's plans now (or if it was just a bizarre dream, we won't know) and would greatly benefit from taking out the witness to keep the hero in the dark.
It's all very speculative and that's my two cents.

So if we are going to let the speculation run riot....
What about Diablo taking over Adria...
Dark wanderer spends a night with Adria, Adria becomes pregnant... Leah is born... but within Adria Diablo placed a small portion of his power... instead of transferring to a weak and new born baby it instead stays with the powerful witch.
The Lore team said Adria is dead but it did not say how... and essentially being turned into Diablo kills people...
No she slept with him after oddly enough. The beta lore says that she "spoke" with him that night, that he is leaving, and wherever he goes hell will follow and that she will be gone in the morning as well. (not with him)
Well I guess maybe it doesn't say she slept with him when he had the soulstone in his head, but it certainly doesn't say she didn't and she didn't seem disturbed when talking to him with it there.
If that's the case, isn't it an obvious choice that Leah would be the one that is "corrupted"? In the cinematic scene, she's confronted by Azmodan and the Prime Evils in a dream.
Just Azmodan though, the other dudes on the pillars would appear to be Azmodan's lieutenants.
Why are people so obsessed with turning Leah into Diablo? Almost as fervently as people who want Cain to be Belial.
There are a couple of reasons:
Images of Diablo's entire body have been leaked, which show a clearly feminine body. Since no other artwork has ever depicted him this way, an underlying reason is needed for this. A female host seems to fit the bill.
Leah has been introduced as a major character in the story, definitely of enough significance for her possession to be meaningful in the story.
We have almost guaranteed knowledge that Aidan is her father, and that she was conceived after Aidan had plunged the soulstone into himself.
Leah is the last descendant of the Leoric family, and they have a particularly bad track record with Diablo. Their stories seem destined to intertwine in D3.
The newly released cinematic clearly hints that Azmodan isn't just talking to Leah. The entire monologue implies that he is speaking to another being of equal or superior power to himself. Given the above four points, this seems to indicate that Azmodan is in reality talking to Diablo.
None of it is solid proof, and if a replacement is to be found for Leah, the next logical choice is probably Adria. But she seems to be assumed dead or at least absent for much of the game, and it doesn't tie in well with the cinematic info we got.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
I'm glad people are finally warming up to this idea. Everyone made fun of me when I said this way back in the day D:
And yet that other thread is full of people insisting Azmodan is talking to Belial and not Diablo in the cinematic, which makes zero sense as far as I can see...
At first I thought it was Leah, but recently I've been entertaining the thought that it was the witch from Diablo 1. The one from Tristram I mean, Adria.
Leah is totally Diablo in some sort of form(in my opinion). The cinematic totally hints at it for me. Azmodan says to Leah(ie Diablo) "You thought you could deceive us all". I think that the "deception" that Azmodan is talking about is Diablo faking his death and drawing out each of the big baddies from hell in to Sanctuary where "heroes" such as ourselves can take them down for Diablo's gain.
Obviously this is all speculation and I really have no proof to back it up. Either way this game's story is going to be epic. Guaranteed.
But then again he said one by one my brethren fell ,or something among does lines.I know Azmodan and Diablo are not like best buds(FRIENDS QUOTE FTW),but still doesn't sound to me like his talking to Diablo.

He actually said "One by one, our brethren fell."
This. "OUR brethren"
Thats what convinced me when I realized that's what he said.
Yeah, like I said, who knows what the real story is going to be, no one really knows. But from what blizz has shown us it sure looks like to me that Leah is a prime candidate for some good old fashioned Diablo possession
I mean he could be referring to him and the other demons in the room though.
I don't think that was it, because if you listen to the entire monologue, Azmodan speaks to Leah as if he is specifically talking to HER. Saying, "You thought you were so clever that you had outwit us all. One by one our brethren fell into your trap, but not me, I defy you." Hopefully I got that right but assuming I did, just that excerpt speaks to Leah as if he is referring directly her.
I think his talking to the Horadrim as a whole, seeing as Leah is being taught by Cain... It would make sense since he refers to his brethren falling one by one into "their" trap! And perhaps the black soulstone was the final Soulstone given to the horadrim to trap all evil in Sanctuary, but Azmodan wants to use it to harness the power of all evil... Or something like that

I don't see how Leah had any part in events leading up to this point. It couldn't possibly be "your trap"(aka Leah's trap, she was an infant/fetus) I feel Azmodan is speaking to Diablo because of how he says what he says and definitely the "our brethren" part of the dialogue is a possibility of Azmodan speaking to Diablo/Diablo's corrupting influence within Leah. I may be wrong but who doesn't love a good conspiracy theory?
Besides all that it needs to be said.. If I was Diablo I would want to be inside Leah too. She's a hottie! LoL

This is diablo, not a petting zoo.
I guess he said that because Leah looks hot...I agree that she is HOT LOL!
But I do hope to see Diablo again >.>
Leah may be hot, but Diablo is hotter ;-)
