What's the real point of killing Diablo and the demons if they can come back over and over again, and each time stronger and more deadly than the last? Sure, you might delay their plans, but they just keep coming back from death, and more angry and eager to destroy the world with some new plan every time. I mean, if you really did live in Sanctuary and, no matter what you do, Diablo and the demons keep coming back, when and how does it really end? They can't be permanently destroyed, right? I mean, do you think the Conflict will last forever, in the Diablo Universe, or, even if it does end, will a new Universe just be formed cyclically, the same as the old one?
Well that's why it is called the Eternal conflict... It's eternal. And it has already been confirmed that there are more worlds other than sanctuary that hell and heaven know nothing about. So if sanctuary ever does end then they will just continue fighting over places like the pandemonium fortress, and continue to barrage assaults on each others doorsteps.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
You probably want your garden to look nice and without any weeds in it, and every time it does show, you'll 'kill' it. Yet, it returns.. often stronger and seemingly more eager to take over your garden. Then you kill it again, but what's the real point? It keeps getting back!
Consider Diablo (and all the other demons) as the weeds in your garden.
A hundred years later...Diablo 10. The humans of Sanctuary are probably going to get really, really tired of seeing Diablo then when he tries to conquer them yet again...or, then again, maybe not. Don't get me wrong, I really like the Diablo games as well, it's just that I can't imagine what the creators are going to do to really "end" the game plot, if ever, since we can banish the Prime Evils all we want and they'll still return...

Impossible, unless Blizzard sells the franchise. You know there's no way Blizzard would pump out 7 sequals in a mere century.
Well, it's not proven that he will always come back. The nephalem throw a wrench in things. Ithereal can no longer tell the future. Uldyssian selflessly turned down godhood when he could have easily defeated the entire sum of heaven and hell on hiss own.
And considering the worldstone is gone, who knows what could happen.

Well, I didn't actually mean, like, 7 sequels, but...it's just that the Diablo games are "Diablo"-based. The Lord of Terror is pretty much the main character and icon. It's just not possible for the franchise to continue without Diablo playing a major role, so he literally has to come back, no matter how many times he's killed. If Sanctuary seals itself off from Diablo, for instance, then any story continuing in Sanctuary...just wouldn't be "Diablo".
Players want to kill him more and more - and that's why he'll never die.
Diablo is like Cobra Commander, he always has a plan to take over the planet; but moments later is thwarted by someone moron who can't even figure out a proper uniform.
I'd like to think that Diablo can never be permanently destroyed, but I have a feeling that Blizzard will find a way. The reason I want him and evil to be everlasting, is because I want more Diablo games after #3!
