I'm just wondering - what role do you think Sanctuary's "gods", such as those worshipped by the Amazon and the Sorceress, will play? And what is more, what are these gods, exactly, and how much power do they wield, compared to Heaven and Hell?
Do you think they might play a role in the third game?
I don't think they will play any role at all. Maybe that dragon-god will, Blizz love dragons.
Well, it's their world, as well. If Sanctuary is threatened, they're going to have to eventually. I think the creators said Trag'Oul wouldn't be appearing, actually. But what I don't get is how they fit into the whole Heaven-Hell cosmology thing. Where did they come from?

I don't know, Anu and Thathamet may've had other body parts other than heads and spine I guess
Joking of course, I suck at lore. But It'd be interesting to know other's opinions on this matter.

All of those "gods" are nephalem. They're all dead, or if not dead then long gone from actively participating in the world. They have no specific powers and worship to them doesn't do anything in the practical sense.
Bul-Kathos: Barbarian deity. Nephalem Esu: Original sorceress. Nephalem Rathma: Original Necromancer. Nephalem Philios: Amazon deity. Nephalem Vasily: Original druid. Nephalem Lycander: Amazon deity. Angel.
We don't know what the deal is with the other amazon gods yet, but it's a damn safe bet they were also nephalem/angels/demons.
The gods of the monk we have no details on yet, but if they're not nephalem they may be some other natural spirits, similar to the animals druids can summon. Or perhaps they're just representations of the nephalem powers in humans.
The only "true" god so far revealed is Trag'Oul, the necromancer deity. He's intertwined with Sanctuary itself and all of its inhabitants. He was formed with Sanctuary, and there seems to be others like him, but one of the biggest mysteries in the lore right now is probably just exactly what Trag'Oul and the Others are.

Well Trag'Ouls is the only "god" for sanctuary all the other "gods" "Guardians" as they're called in the sin war are from other worlds like sanctuary that are also hidden from Heaven and Hells view. So I don't think we'll be seeing any Guardians, nor will we see the original nephalem some were lost during the sin war and it is unknown how many are left or where they are.

Well, I think these "Guardians" are actually born when their respective worlds are, as part of the natural cosmic order or something.
But what I really meant were the deities that many of Sanctuary's peoples worship and are apparently empowered by: The tribes of the Umbaru define themselves by their belief in the Mbwiru Eikura, which roughly translates to "The Unformed Land." This belief holds that the true, sacred reality is veiled behind the physical one normally experienced. Their vitally important public ceremonies are centered upon sacrifices to the life force that flows from their gods, who inhabit the Unformed Land, into this lesser physical realm.
How powerful do you think they are? I mean, if they fuel the many powers the Amazons and Witch Doctors have, just to name a few, powers enabling them to fight some of the most powerful Demons, then they must be pretty strong...

You're right they are super powerful, but they are actually no different than the witch doctor you play as besides the fact that they haven't realized their true powers.
The only problem with above statement is that technically, The worldstone was the only thing that diminished the powers of the nephalem to nothing, and an alter in the worldstone by Uldyssian allowed the nephalem to slowly regain their powers, even though the worldstone diminished them, since the worldstone is now destroyed the nephalems powers shoul no longer be repressed and should fully show, therefore the nephalem now should be on par with their respective deities. So technically the players you play as should be as powerful as the original nephalem, that's all they are really the original nephalem. They are only deities because the followers consider them so much more powerful without realizing they are just as powerful they just need to grow over time and realize that power.

I think it is not likely that they are all dead Nephalem. For instance, Hefaetrus truly does empower his Amazon worshippers with the powers of heat and fire, while Zerae, goddess of storms, gives the Amazons the power to enchant their javelins and arrows with Lightning. If they continue to empower Amazons today, it seems that they have done so for generations, and, whatever they may truly be, are definitely alive.
That's old lore from manuals, I am sure it will go through some changes and explanations or even retcons.
Well, there have been considerable retcons, yeah, but I think that was from the second Diablo in-game lore, not the older manuals...
I can't think of any deity mentioned in-game, except the worship of 'the Light'.
What about Hefaetrus and Zerae? Didn't the Amazon in Diablo 2 use powers like Fire Arrow and Lightning, and both were said to come from their fire god and storm goddess, who were said to literally reside in Sanctuary? If they're Nephalem, or the spawn of Nephalem who have somehow endured for thousands of years, then that would be problematic, as the Ancients themselves were not immortal...
Ultimately, there are no actual gods in the Diablo universe. Anu and Tathomet are the only ones that come close, and even they were not immortal.
The original Anu is as close as you'll get to an actual god. A being that encapsulated everything and who's "death" led to the creation of the Universe and everything in it? It's hard to get closer to a description of what one would traditionally call a god.

All of that information came from the Diablo II Manual, none of it was in the game.
In any case, the fact that certain powers are said to come from them does not mean there are at all times ethereal gods channeling powers into the amazons. It could be that they originally taught the amazons how to use those powers, or that the amazons figured it out after they were gone, but decided that it was proof that they'd proven themselves worthy of mastering some of the powers their nephalem ancestors possessed. In light of the recent restructuring of the Diablo universe that began with the Sin War novels, it seems prudent to assume other gods are also nephalem.
I'll give you that neither the monk nor witch doctor gods conform to the depictions of Bul-Kathos, Lycander etc, which are thought of in human personifications just like their real selves. Even so, the heart of the franchise is still the battle between heaven and hell and humanity's place in it, and so even if these gods are different beings we know nothing of yet the nephalem heritage in all humans is still the main focus of the series, and probably the foundation of the powers the characters and others exhibit in the games.
