That is quite a great idea to run with. This is something that I plan to do in the book I've been trying to write for a while now. I want to start the story from the future perspective filled with legends and lore that have been twisted and distorted from the actual events. I think it would create a wonderful sense of humanity and propaganda.
Don't make it too complicated though, reades are bound to be pissed off if everything is turned on it's head at the end of the book (supposing they find out about the truth, but I guess they would have to, otherwise there wouldn't be much of a point in making it false to begin with)

At the end of the sin war the memories of all the humans involved are altered. By doing this I think blizzard quite effectively covered their tracks.
By having everyones memory altered (who knows to what extent?) the story of mephisto vs inarius could be the humans new memory or just what they concoct to explain the downfall of the triune and inarius when in fact the edyrem brought down both.
It would be a logical to assume, if both major religions were in ruins with no memory of anyone doing it, that some war had taken place between them
Your theory makes sense, but we've already talked about that. We also said that Blizzard covered themselves by stating that its the best info on Sanctuary's history given the scraps of information available at the time. So yeah, they are covered. History in real life often changes too.
Kubraxis is the great conniver. He used the vanity of Inarius to cojole the confidence behind a sure defeat of M3phisto. Man, still worshipping the Light through the good will of Inarius had no clue that they were hailing the demon, Kubraxis. The arrogance and vanity that caused Inarius to create the first Temple of the Light was the same arrogance and vanity that the demon conniver used to assault M3phisto's temple using both the Will of the Light and the Will of Man (The Prime's fear Kubraxis and his ability to strengthen himself through his workings; minus the need for Terror, Destruction, or Hatred). The corrupted Inarius fell but the demon conniver learned how to sway man to do his bidding.
But if Kabraxis (< proper spelling) pretended to be Inarius, then what about the Twisted Path of Dreams and Shadow? That's what he does to gain power. How did it come to be that the worshipers somehow worhsipped Inarius and then changed to Kabraxis? If you're saying that Inarius was handed over to Mephisto in The Sin War while Inarius still had worshipers, then it doesn't make sense because the worshipers memories were wiped. Kabraxis would have had to invent Inarius up all over again. So nah, it doesn't make sense sorry. The answer has already been said so many times - its just a fault of historians and the decaying nature of time.

nothing was said about Kabraxis recreating Inarius. I was more of posing speculation on how Inarius could be subdued by Kabraxis and what reasons the demon conniver would have. For some reason, I feel that it could have been his successful corruption of the Archangel that lead to the assault on M3phisto's Temple. As for your interpreted need to "recreate" Inarius to create an idol good for man to worship is also a false pretense. In my speculation, idols such as Dien-Ap-Sten are created in the "likeness" of Inarius (champions of man whom are buit primarily to suit our sinful natures), to engorge our needs. Many have worshipped him, but very few knew who he actually was.
I just have this odd feeling that he was behind the entire Sin War, or at least played a large part in it
Okay, so I don't understand what you originally said. Which version are you going by? The Sin War, or the game manual? You sound like you're trying to explain why Inarius attacked Mephisto's temple, but then you're also saying that Kabraxis has a part in The Sin War, which means that you're saying that both accounts are true. But they can't both be true, they are contradictive.
So what is it that you're saying exactly?
And no, The Black Road is definitely cannon. How can it not be? There are no contradictions that I am aware of.

But that doesn't necessarily make it canon though. The Sin War and Moon of the Spider have all been on Battle.net etc. and seem to be acknowledged by Blizzard.
Then again, you would sort of need Blizzard's permission to write a Diablo book. Strange if they hadn't supervised it at least a little

This is the issue you get into with multiple writers doing books in the same world.
I would say that all of the books had to be licensed by Blizzard and are therefore by default all canon and equal in validity.
The difference I guess would be that the Sin War already had some basis to work with while most of the other books are set within the context of sanctuary, but are individual stories.

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]"Fool! You have just ensured the doom of this world. You cannot even begin to imagine what you've set in motion this day. Go to the Temple of Light, in the eastern ciry of Kurast. There you will find the gate to Hell opened before you. You must find the courage to step through that gate Marius. Take the stone you hold to the Hellforge, where it will be destroyed. Now run! Take the stone and run!"
Yeah, true about not being on Blizzard.net. Then again, the other two Sin War books aren't on it. Only the first. I was waiting for ages for the third book to be announced on the Blizzard website, but then I realised that it was already available lol.
Lets just say that considering it has the big official trademarked Diablo logo on it, then its official.
Yo, Solitarium. I found this quote for you.
“Because Kabraxis’s main objective in the world of man is to eclipse and replace Zakarum. Kabraxis worked during the Sin War to keep Zakarum from being brought forth by the Archangel Yaerius through his disciple Akarat.”
“What of the Archangel Inarius?” Darrick asked, remembering the old stories he’d been
told of the Sin War. “It was Inarius who first built a Cathedral of Light in this world.”
“Inarius grew overconfident and destroyed Mephisto’s temple, and Inarius was enslaved
and returned with the Seraph to Hell to be tortured for all time. Kabraxis aided in
Inarius’s downfall by winning them over to the demon’s side.”
“I don’t remember that,” Darrick said.
“The war was primarily between Mephisto and Inarius,” Taramis said. “Only a sage or
someone who has had priest training would know of Kabraxis’s part in the Sin War. The
Banisher of Light is a conniving demon. Kabraxis works in the shadows, stretching their
boundaries till they cover the Light. Most men who have worshipped him over all those
years have never known his true name.”
What you said is pretty much just repeated what these guys said, except for the fact that their sources are outdated. Since that time new information has been discovered regarding the Sin War (aka The Sin War trilogy).

does this make sense? am I missing something?
