Since I can't afford SC2 and I'm kind of waiting on some money for it, I thought I would see how the 'custom user-made maps' were going. They were one of my favorite parts about SC1/BW so I wanted to know your opinions on how good a job the mapmakers are doing on this 'new' editor.

It's all been said. The pun, the not so funny joke, the phrase, something about oneself, the not so random picture.
Imo the custom maps still suck. I mean you can find good ones that will entertain you but most of the maps are still work in proggress and there is alot of bullshit out there. I think after blizzcon we will get more good maps.
They somewhat suck, but are doing well enough with the current restrictions placed on them by the Battle.net 2.0 system. The five map limit, size limit, etc. are holding some of the more creative people back, and don't get me started on the bannings that have popped up. I think it's going to get better, it's only been out a few months and maps are getting better and better still.
I'm still waiting for the mauls I've seen to get finished. >.< Yep, I'm one of those guys. And just like WC3 and TFT, I'm going to get my money's worth on custom games alone, by a wide margin.

Join the Irish Mob. We like almost everybody. Read Pants are Good. It's funny. You'll like it.
Also read Wintendo, as DINGBANG is attempting to play through 764 SNES games in a back catalog.
Well I guess we could say that the map makers have had some time to explore SC II's universe and editor and soon will start on their amazing projects which will take time but will be awesome.
Then again the reason why map making on SC1 was so much better than other editors was because you were so limited and had to use your knowledge of the game and it's bugs/glitches to make a decent map to be played. Spellsword RPG was one of my favorites of SC maps.
With SC II editor, if you know how things work, you can just make whatever you want happen. I guess that could be why people are making sucky maps. They don't know what to do because there is SO MUCH they can do.

The editor has very great potential. The problem is 90% of people don't know how to use it well and we get dota, tower defense, etc... But the amount of stuff we have seen in the editor so far has a huge potential. There are single player dead space style games in production, for example. The sc2 editor has almost limitless possibility. As of now there are only a few maps that are really awesome. I don't actually do much custom gaming, I just use the editor.
