Since it's announcement, I have been looking forward to the Crafting Mat Storage feature coming in 2.5.0. As an excellent QoL improvement for us hoarders, I was sad to see all my Greater Rift keys still stacked up in rows in my stash. I know this isn't a real issue for a lot of players, specifically those who actually need to farm keys to keep up the GR grind but not all of us are that key starved. Considering the fact that once you pickup a GR key it never has to be physically addressed again, I would have assumed that they would have made it into the new storage system. That being said, they are actually more of a currency than anything so it would make sense to me if they were stored like gold or blood shards.
So I ask, any chance of this being included? Either way, thanks for the freed up space!
I never seem to have more than a few dozen Grift keys on hand at a time, but I've seen folks with several hundred or thousand. Seems excessive to give them space in the Mats tab, since they're not mats and all, but I higher stack limit might be nice. 1000, maybe.
The QOL improvements in 2.5.0 are pretty nice, but yeah it would be great for Blizz to take another look at increasing the stack count for everything left (that stacks). It's funny because now you notice how shabby the gems are in the stash (+1 do something else with the gems)... and the only ones you really use are imperials (for rerolling jewelry) and flawless royals.
Maybe they can sneak in a few more improvements during the PTR.
I agree that increasing the stack limit would serve the same purpose. However I disagree that they fall under the same category as gems (but wouldn't hate it if they were out of my stash as well ). I could even argue that they are a crafting mat. It is a stretch but they do "craft" a GR (hmm shaky). I still consider them a currency though. Oh and I have well over 1k keys.
if blizzard did the same thing with rift keys, there would be no problem whatsoever. but since you seem to have to fish for a suitable / beatable / record worthy GR, they should think about eliminating the need to fish and let the GR keys remain the way they are. how they would do that is beyond us and maybe them, too.
about the crafting mat storage: do i still have to open the pane, take out everything for a cube recipe by hand and press cube? i know it still serves the fantasy of the cube, but it is still just another window to open instead of taking the items out of the stash. i fail to see the QoL here.

You open the cube, select the recipe and press "FILL" under the recipe and that's it. Cube is full. Just need to add the item and press transmute.

For me, the GR keys belong down by the gold and blood shards, and have since you stopped having to move them into the slot to open a GR.
The reason for this is that when I play multiple classes and switch between them, GR keys often get forgotten on another character. I know that the work around is to keep them in the stash, but it's an unnecessary extra step to have to stash GR keys after each regular rift, since being a tangible item no longer serves any real purpose.
Making them an account wide currency just makes good design sense at this point.

If you only need 2 types of gems, then why don't you just get rid of all the other types of gems you have?
Seriously, 90% of those "I have no space left" issues are because people can't just throw garbage away...
I meant "you" in the general sense of everyone. I do dirty things with my gems (don't judge!). I loves 'em all. Anything that Blizz can do to help keep them clean and tidy is greatly appreciated.
The fact that you no longer interact with a GR key once you pick it up means it should be classified differently. Yes you can move them between your toons and the stash, and yes they can be sold to vendors for $1 a pop, but that is literally it. Not only are they immediately account bound on pick-up, you can't even drop them on the ground if you so desired. They are a currency without question. However, I think it would be much easier on the programmers if they either just increased the stack size or added them as a part of the mat storage.
I'm guessing that because they are an evolved form of Trial Keys and the resulting GR key from patch 2.1 (where it made sense to have the GRift levels available independently). they just didn't consider a rework of it's interaction.
I completely agree, Rift keys belong in that shared material tab. I have many stacks on live that I would never get rid of but they take up space.
Also, I think it would be awesome if we could make a scroll out of Puzzle rings and Bovine Bardiches, maybe a cube recipe that converts them to a key similar to the hellfire keys. I would love to be able to stack these items rather than having them fill my inventories
Anyone know how the new inventory stash works on Hardcore? Since they seem stuck in the new inventory and you can't save them in your stash. What happens if you die?
EDIT: Tested this. You do not lose your crafting mats if you die.
Thank you all for the feedback, opinions, and commentary - I'm glad to see that I am not alone!
Also, I would like to reiterate my sincere appreciation of Blizzard's continued QoL advancements and improvements for D3.
Maybe... Just maybe, this thread can catch some Blue attention and be considered . With all the legitimate GR Key classification attributes mentioned, even a counter-argument/solution/scenario would be great and I would hope they wouldn't see this thread as just another "give me more stash space!" demand.
They need to figure out a way to add gems to this as well as auto pick up for everything that isnt an armor/wep piece. Although auto pick up for items may be nice as a on/off feature for when you're farming for mats.

ah, alrighty then. thanks! though it seems we could get rid of the cube altogether and incorporate the recipes in the crafting pane.

If you want devs to look at the thread, just better to post on official forums. I don't really know how much or if they even read this website.
Ah, thank you for the tip TrueColdkil! Much appreciated .
