I find it amazing that when a poll/survey is taken that finally allows folks to compare D2 vs. D3, it shows that the overwhelming majority is not necessarily in favor of the D2 look. At the time of this post, the margin is less than 5%. I'm not saying it (D2 darker, gothic look) shouldn't be considered, but so many people flew off the handle, ready to string Bliz up by the toenails.
Apparently, a LOT of folks also like the new look, with some of those probably in favor of a few visual tweaks. Count me in the second group. I think the game looks AMAZING! I think there is definitely a darkish mood already, and that was the first look at the game. Who knows, maybe they'll strike a happy medium...I don't see how it could be so difficult to implement graphic controls that can achieve the same thing. Heck, most modern monitors and graphic cards allow manipulation of these things.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
People that liked what Diablo 3 looked like are not going to sit here and bitch about how its good. People that want it to change are much more vocal. The poll is flawed because of that FACT.
UPDATE: Interesting to see the passion of Diablo III fans getting split into two factions. Here is another set of fans who opened a petition to NOT change the D3 Artistic Direction: http://www.petitiononline.com/DIII/petition.html
That's a wrong URL. Check my signature. Why are there two pro-D3 petitions?
can you just wait for some more screens or something so that we can see if the whole game looks like that?
and take a look at the gameplay video. when you see a screenshot you might think that the whole game is like that, bright and stuff, but when you see the whole video, it doesn't look that bad. does it?
I can. But what if they've decided to make the whole game like that? We might be a little late...
It doesn't look that bad. That's why we want 'a little' change.
Yeah, use the new one instead of the one-liner. It's actually got a pretty long and reasonable argument, if I do say so myself. Don't link to my site if you don't want to do it, but I do personally believe that the petition I created is better able to represent the "pro-D3" faction due to the arguments put forth. It's also got double the amount of signatures.
The characters and armor look like they were lifted directly out of WoW. Several textures and that one statue that looks ilke a sitting griffon should be detailed a lot better. The rest of it is alright, just please show us another screenshot of something further into the game soon so we can rest easier at night knowing there's something gloomier waiting for us.

I reported it, but the moderators are not on our side apparently, and they will probably not change it.
It seems to me like the whole anti-D3 petition is fake anyway - you can't read any signatures! Typical bot petition.
In the Diablo fan community there are two distinct and but not equally important groups. The Loyalists who want to keep Diablo 3 vibrant and lively and the Dissidents who want Diablo 3 to look like Clive Barker's Jericho by using bots in their petition. These are their stories.
Yes you can if you know how and where, someone said that before and the author posted the link with revealed comments. Petition result ain't gonna convince Blizz, but the media attention it gets on many gaming sites will.
You mean like all the negative things that Kotaku, RockPaperShotgun, VE3D and Shacknews had to say about how the petition's creators are nothing but ungrateful and spiteful fans who can't be pleased, among other worse comments made?
Even those commenting within the news on those aforementioned websites rallied in support of Blizzard and its current art direction for Diablo 3.
If Blizzard does indeed listen to media feedback, those opinions are certainly going to hold more weight than a silly petition wanting the direct opposite.
You cant read the signatures because the site dont allow that but I, as the creator of the petition, have full access to them and compiled them in a text file yesterday: http://www.freewebs.com/ultramegazord/comments.html
It has much more thousands of signatures now, i havent updated it but stop saying so much crap without knowing the facts.
Hm? As far as I can tell, your petition is full of crap and no facts. You said armor pieces look oversized? They look smaller than than almost any end-game armor and weapons in D2. You said the Cathedral in Tristram was gray and had no shades of blue or green? Blue and green were EXACTLY the colors used there.
So all I see is bullshit.
And yes, I'm still convinced your petition is fake to the bone.

I think somehow (if you can), these comments need to be made readily available to Blizzard somehow.

Maybe you haven't noticed (and if you haven't, you really need to open your eyes), but games should be driven by the user, not the developer. It has everything to do with us not being pleased, we are the consumer, we are the ones who pay for the product and we are the one's who collectively spend millions of dollars. We are not the ones making a profit, they are.

And what about those of us who actually like the graphics the way they are, and like the style the way it is? I guess we don't matter. We silent majority.
Gamers don't often know what they want, and when they do, they're often wrong about it, which is why they aren't the ones developing the games.
Look, I bet a lot of people would attempt to create a chocolate coated ham sandwich with mashed potato gravy on it if they knew how to cook. It's a good thing they aren't blessed with the patience to learn the culinary arts.
Just give a powerful tool like Spore Creature Creator or Photoshop into the hands of an amateur and simply bask in awe at the sheer number of genetalia-related creations show up. This has happened.

The characters look nothing like they do in WoW. They look stylized, but they have much more realistic details to them and are not as exaggerated as WoW characters. and I think the armor looks inspired and interesting. I remember barbarians with huge helms and over exaggerated armor in D2 if I'm not mistaken.
The only thing this game really needs is shaper textures, more contrast, and more shaders.
Please stop making comments about that tiny little griffin stature. It has a low poly count for a reason, So people can play the game on their PC's. Not ever tiny statue is going to have 1,000 polys and a normal map on it...
yea they artwork is great, but not for Diablo.
why make it look like WoW when its Diablo?
i dont want WoW to look like Diablo and i dont want Diablo to look like WoW.
Diablo 3 isn't being made now in a WoW style, you chowderheads. It's being made in a Blizzard style. Maybe you'd prefer it in a Bethesda style or a Flagship style, where the game looks dark but the code is so full of holes that you'll be getting 5 frames per second due to people exploiting it for their own advantage.
Please, for the love of all things holy... stop running off your mouths and showing just how much of an ignorant WoW-hating mob you are. D1 and D2 weren't Blizzard. They were Blizzard North. You don't want Diablo 3 to be a Blizzard game? I'd recommend you break away and walk the desert.
You guys toss up screens of dark places in diablo II like there are no yesterday, but you all obviously seem to forget the not-so-dark places of Diablo II also. Since it's become sport to criticise the art direction of a "colorful" diablo III, saying Diablo II was never this bright and vibrant with color, I have only one question:
Are you guys blind?
Since it seems fashion to throw around screenshots, here are some obvious ones I found:
Less handdrawn style perhaps, but in no way as dark and gritty as you all claim. Sure Diablo II has some dark places, but it wasn't void of light places either. I still can't see the comparison to WoW or Warcraft 3 either, you claim this: http://www.morearnings.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/wow-horde-level-59-1.jpg

I have only one thing to say: Take off your fckin sunglasses, you are obviously blind O,o...

So now it's 181 to almost 12,000. I think the majority speaks here.
Edit: looks like it's already at about 12,500. Blizzard would be nuts not to listen to this.

But I don't want to play Sacred 2. I want Diablo 3.
