They look beautiful and contrast the bleak of the dungeon. Overall, they will make the dungeon atmospheres that much better.
IF YOU HAVE TO NITPICK, nitpick at the dungeon.
edit: as for realistic graphics, I am pretty sure the outdoor areas where I live (colorado) look more akin to the original than any of the edits. Just sayin'.
How do all of you know that there will/will not be variable graphics options and stuff like that allow you to change how it looks?
Everyone is going ballistical over how it should look. Keep in mind that they have certain limitations based on the average person's computer performance (and other factors).
I personally enjoyed the light radius. Much more realistic in a dark dungeon.
+1
As for the OP, I'd say it's way too dark, almost black & white (well, gray that is). On the plus side, I'd prefer your version better than what it is now.

It's because we were spoiled by Diablo 2. There is nothing wrong with expecting consistency in the franchise. Change is good, I'll agree with that, but not if the change is a rehash of their other IP's ( Warcraft in this case ).
I would say 99% of the people in this thread are perfectly calm about the matter and will love the game no matter what. We are simply observing what changes we think should be made to the style so it diverges from Warcraft and adheres more to Diablo. There is no way to completely change a company's style ( and I think many will agree Blizzard is a different company in regards to Diablo since North broke apart ). And because of this there is no way this game could look like Diablo 2, even though I'm sure most of us loved the style of Diablo 2, but I think they can do a better job of emulating the Diablo universe. I am not hellbent on changing this game. I'm really hyped no matter what happens. Subtle things however could be done to improve the mood of the D3. If you read the thread in great detail I think these subtleties will become evident.
I really have a hard time imagining why would anyone decide to keep the textures (and the lighting) the way they are.
Is this how you would imagine a world full of evil, disparity, and violence? Of course not.
I agree 100% but the thing that some people are trying to explain is that, if these are screens and video from act 1, Sanctuary just got out of 20 years of peace and prosperity.
So assuming we start out the game with things suddenly crumbling into despair I would be happy. (As in the next act is more along the lines of what we want and expect in a Diablo game)

D2 looked realistic, with amazing graphics.
Blizzard needs the old artists back.

Hmm, here is something I've been wondering. I know a lot of us have a problem with the fact D3 might end up looking... sort of bright and giggly.
I wonder how many people would be content if they skipped out on the 3D all together? I know that's not what will happen and I would never ask for that but honestly, it's always been hard for me to imagine a 3d Diablo game.
Yes. i am mentally retarded, thanks for the constructive post.
Your welcome. Its more productive than posting a thread 1 million times about the same garbage and you havn't clearly actually gotten any word from the developers on their intent with the graphics, nor do you even seem to comprehend that the game is far from finished

Haha, I hear that. The forums are going crazy right now so we'll probably have to wait a few weeks until people are having more civil conversation.

Thank you, that's what I've been trying to put into words for awhile now.

I just want there to be parts of the game where that isn't that element. Then, the colors would actually have more depth color wise.
It's like compressing audio (and limiting it). Sure, it gets louder so you can hear the music better, but it's not as dynamic. I like dynamic.
