I do what i can do, i dont have access to the game engine, i cant change the textures, models and lightning, that's why im just changing the colors, its all i can do with images.
Tell me which one of those fits Diablo better:
Do you still think its all about brightness and contrast?
Yes, because this ONE texture when compared to ONE other from a previous game proves it!
My god you guys are irrational. D2 Act 1 was horrifically boring. Do you not remember this?
I'm glad so many people agree with the idea of changing the color scheme. What Blizzard's goal should be is to create *unique* universes with separate art styles. I know it is more economical to train your artists to work with only one style and stick to it, but then the styles just melt together and soon there is almost no point in having 3 different IP's ( Intellectual Property - just so I'm no cryptic to those who don't know ).
Very good point and I fully agree. The game was just announced today. Let's just give blizzard some time and we can see what it looks like in a few months.
We not asking for more gray or more colors. Just a more detailed gritter look. People who can't seem to tell that the model textures are very low res and looks like a WoW texture artist did is a dumbass. .
My bad

We're not talking about colorless, nor is Ultra's solution the final image that Blizzard should use. He doesn't have access to the engine. What we are talking about is using a SELECTIVE PALETTE for a more GOTHIC MOOD. Use Ultra's images as a general idea for what we're going for, not exactly what the game should look like.
Again, my bad.

The problem it seems is the lack of good shadowing.
I remember when I walked through Durance of Hatred the first time, barely seeing the walls and then stumbling into a pool filled with blood and at the center a mound of corpses and once bumping into a wall you see blood flowing down it.
The dungeon in the trailer looks OK, but it feels like it takes place on a series of roof-tops rather than in a dungeon.
Graphics do matter, not as much as game-play, however; getting the right arts style, music and graphics all together makes the game that much better. Yes graphics are a part of that equation when you are dealing with modern games, so guys, accept it and live with it.
And to the guys who worship Blizzard, please, /wrists. You are a customer and as such you have the right to suggest or even make demands. Blizzard is a company that makes exceptional games and as such our demands will be the same. If we never demand anything then well, that's just unhealthy consumerism where you are paying someone to tell you what to like and if you don't you STFU. Not cool.
Durance of Hate was awesome... and so were the shadows in all of D2. Some places in Act 2 just felt great.

I don't necessarily mind the outdoor environments as much as I do the indoor ones. I understand that maybe the land could have cleared up and regrown over the years, but when dungeons are crawling with demons it should present itself that way. More blood, less blue, more decay, torn fabric, etc. I also noticed in the gameplay videos that some of the blood and body parts gradually disappear. More clutter could generate more lag so if it is for the better of the game then it isn't much of a big deal to begin with. Now that there are destructable environments I could see myself getting a lot more fun out of the game and that is all I really want from Diablo 3, along with a great storyline.
I understand we have only witnessed very few environments so I don't really mind the direction of development ATM, so long as we get to see some more darker and grittier environments later on. I only hope that Blizzard will at least give us a handful of those, and judging by some of the concept art, there will be. I also understand that in the latest GS interview, Rob stated that he wanted to turn the dark, gothic mood into emotion. Playing Diablo 2, I never really got scared even though many of the environments were dark/bloody/etc. I hope that D3 can instill some fear and unsettling thoughts, and the appropriate environment would only add to that.
Many veterans of Diablo 1 & 2 will probobly agree that they would rather see D3 return to it's dark, gritty roots. It isn't that they're "retards"; graphics play a big part in games these days because they are slowly becoming more and more realistic. It helps generate a vital atmosphere and can set a mood. For the people complaining about the complainers: Would you rather see D3 as a MUD? Or text-based adventure?
"You are now entering a dark, damp dungeon. Which direction do you want to go?"
^ That isn't scary, nor is it very descriptive.
The same argument could be taken from Resident Evil. Long-time fans and veterans enjoyed it's true "survival horror" roots in dark, atmospheric environments. Ever since RE4, it has taken a more "survival horror action" direction and many fans were upset and left with no alternative. Silent Hill has been known for it's creepy atmosphere, but fans have been having doubts about SH5 ever since a team of Western developers took over the project.
You can't expect people to not complain or hand out suggestions, and you can't expect them to except change almost immediately. Especially fans of the genre/game that have been waiting almost a decade.
Aside from the scenery, I have also noticed a few people talking about the "Blizzard humor." I got a chuckle from the Caine conversation but then I realized that I would rather not laugh when I am trying to immerse myself into this dark environment. Surely I like to laugh but introducing this subtle humor into a game like D3 will spread it even further apart from the previous games, in my humble opinion. It's like your average Hollywood director taking your favorite video game and turning into a corny action flick with a storyline unrelated to the actual game (*cough* Resident Evil *cough* *ahem* Uwe Boll *clears throat*). It's depressing. But then again it was only one conversation. Hopefully there aren't too much like those, and we all know how much WoW loves to make obvious pop-culture references.
I absolutely cannot wait for D3 and I will buy it no matter what. I don't care if the Collector's Edition (if there is one) is $500, I will still buy it. I have faith that D3 will turn into the game we all will enjoy. Just give it time.
Good point about humor, but...

The Cain "humor" was a nod to fans; nothing else. Just like "Hell, it's about time." was a nod to fans. But, as far as the art style; I agree. But, I also think Blizzard can make the new art style work.
I laughed at "Hell, it's about time" also ^^

Some people haven't seen any other game than WoW for the past four years. I was thinking of how well Gears of War and Dawn of War pull off that gritty realistic look while keeping a good color palette, Blizzard should take a note from those guys.
Gears of War does look fantastic

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
As you can see, the first image is very bright/lush and the textures/canvas seem as if they were hand-painted.
In the second picture, it isn't as "murky" as the OP's pictures, nor is it very dark. The textures are sharpened and the scenery still retains some of its color. The grass is a little "deader" and the trees stand out more and appear as if they are charred. I believe certain areas deserve to be dark with others still need to be somewhat colorful. Even Gears of War had my eyes hurting after a while. Open fields don't necessarily need to be shrouded in thick fog and dark mist.
Alot of Diablo fans revel in the horror parts, you know. The small dark and dingy journey between mobs where at any moment they can appear from outside your light radius. You hear them before you see them, but they hear you first
Then when you reach the mob its an all-out action hack n slash gore fest
Thats how I think it should be anyway
Edit - From what I can see, and from how easy it is to manipulate the pictures to make them look alot darker at such an easy level. Blizzard will definitely make this game look darker, its certainly not a hard thing to do
You got to keep in mind that the game isn't completed yet, so there can much more improvement and many more changes which can take place between now and the release. That being said, the gameplay doesn't look half bad, for a little demo it's pretty good. The graphics are up there and it's pretty gory, just by watching the Barbarian clip you kind of say to yourself "I'm going to be doing that soon".
I give this a 10000000000000000000000000 out of 10:P

I like the life I lived, because I went from negative to positive.
You know very well who you are, don't let them hold you down, reach for the stars.
Personally, in the dungeons with the ghouls crawling up the walls, that freaked me out a bit lol, because they were EVERYWHERE. IMO, I don't care as long as they don't get ridiculously cartoony, this is fine, of course it could be darker, but I like that it's achieved a nice balance, it isn't that bad really, even in the dungeons, you don't want it to dark or it'll just be ugly.. and annoying. Also, ya know what? It's better than having the same boring textures as in D2 where you had the repeated grass over and over in the first act, than you encounter dirt, than more grass.
Judge your touch up is nice. The OP pics are far too dark and murky. I agree some dungeon areas should be very dark and it should be hard to see anything outside the light radius but I do think there should be some brighter areas too and more diversity in the environment. Just taking out the color does not improve the problem. I think the problem right now is mainly the textures need to be a little sharper.

I really hope so because, coming from someone who played since day one (I'm not saying that makes me better than anyone else), the dark foreboding landscapes are what really drew a lot of people in. Theirs almost a novelty in it, no other game that I've ever played has been able to capture that same intense dreary feeling you can get with Diablo.
It's really what a lot of us have come to expect from the franchise.
I really wish we could get a look at what the old team had been working on before their departure.
It doesnt nesseseraly have to be as dark as mine but atleast they gotta do something.. and Bring back the light radius feature and make it more diabolish some way..
Please Blizzard i hope you are reading this..

We're trying to balance satisfying the fans and also creating a game that feels like our own.
It looks like they're fighting at night instead of day.
yeah I was about to say the same thing... it's not like you can always be playing at night, can you?
I have no quarrel with the current graphics, although a darker setting was proposed by someone which didn't look too bad... (neutral for change) it wasn't this one though.... this is completely desaturated and looks dumb because of that.
They did a pretty good job at making the game gloomy (grpahics and figuratively), and figuratively dark, as it is. I think just turning down color saturation and decreasing brightness and contrast does nothing for a game. It doesn't need to be PHYSICALLY dark for the game to feel dark...
and Bring back the light radius feature and make it more diabolish some way..
OMG no. That idiotic idea made me totally hate any DII catacombs, caves, and other rubbish. Don't do that again, it totally destroyed half the game... IMO
Hmmm, i find it strange that so many of you are moaning about this graphics, there are so many threads, some of us have waited so long for blizzard to officially annouce this game, some of you honestly want them to scrap the graphics and redo it? they have been working on this for 3 years already, and im hoping that it will be ready to go in a years time (doubt it).
Yes it could be more darker, but are you guys honestly not happy that its here, that its been confirmed and that its no longer a theory or something we suspect but that its actually being made. Sure i expected the game to be a little darker, but i also expected others things, and saw them, the fluid and smashing combat the barby showed, the way when he smashed the ground with his leap, blood, corpses and monster went flying everywhere, they portrayed him beautifully, his charge, it wasnt a little shitty one like the warriors charge in WoW, he was a blue blur, almost a missile smashing into monsters, his whirlwind smashed the wall as he flew past it, yes the graphics engine is no Age of Conan, but i played that to level 30, and its very nice (I ran it in MAXIUM settings) and its oh so pretty, but hell it wasn't immersive as PRETBC WoW was (i loved Naxx), i have always missed diablo 1 and the way a chill always ran down my spine when i explored the "castle" like areas. Being honest, diablo 2 never delivered that certain thrill, yes it was dark, and the storyline kept me hooked for a good 2-3 years, and it was a beautifully crafted by blizzard north but it never gave me that chill. I saw that interview and i heard that they wanted us to feel it rather than see it, in my book thats hell of alot more scary. This is something that i could have only dreamed of nevermind that it is on my screen and i'll have in the near future (heres hoping).
Where are all the threads celebrating the release, the annoucement of our long awaited Diablo 3, i am saddened that you guys who call yourselves hardcore fans, won't even wait a month to see other area's before being "outraged" by it's WoWish look, give it a chance guys, we are all on the same boat here and we should all be looking forward to this.
For those who point there finger at me being a first time poster, go ahead, i have played Diablo since day 1, i even have hellfire (technically its sierra online, but meh) and all my collectors editions, and i am will always love diablo down to the ground, i thought others would be excited at the prospect of a 3rd title... guess you guys would rather critique it on day 1 rather than jump up and down like a 12 year old kid (its good to feel that age from playing a game haha.)
Sorry if i offend anyone with this post, but i am a diehard fan and it saddens me to see you all bicker amongst eachother rather than realise that it is finally here...
Yes. I couldn't be more excited about the Barbarian. His Leap just looks fucking fantastic. And his smash, and whirlwind, and stun, and cleave. Killing monsters in D3 will look as good as killing people in Assassin's Creed, or mythical creatures in God of War. And this is a minor detail, but I love the verticality of the levels, watching ghouls clamber upwards to get to you, watching body parts flying off the edge. And the blood looks great. Everything looks great (except some of the stone/floor textures - lol).
I'm a new poster too. Hi!
