Then what does it have to do with exactly? Because that is ALL these pictures show. They put them in Photoshop, messed with the brightness/contrast and rendered noise. Am I missing anything?
I love the graphic style, but I do agree that the color palette is too pastelly (I know, not a real word.) Anyway, I was messing around with one of the screenshots and I tweaked it a little to represent what I would personally prefer. That said, if the colors stay the same I'm still beyond pumped for the game and the wait to play will be a long one
BEFORE
AFTER
I know which one is WAY more appealing to my eye, and its the original.
By the way. I believe you can set GAMMA and BRIGHTNESS in your video options.

Yes.. Filters.. But, I know what you're saying, and I agree.
Personally, I think I'm going to wait until I see some more dungeons and crypts before I call anything on this one. I have faith that the designers know that the Diablo atmosphere comes largely from the dark and dreary looking world, and that we'll still get a lot of that.
On the upside, a bit of color is nice. Kinda makes you realize the world of Sanctuary might be worth saving after all, heh.
Or maybe you learn to read and understand that also the textures need some work and that the models also need some work, unless you have a magical screen that does it for you.
Of course! I'm not saying that they don't. I'm just merely pointing out what I see in these pictures. Do I like the "After" pictures? Hell yes I do! but all I'm seeing is what I stated before. The problem is some people are going bananas over this stuff without realizing that Blizzard will probably address it.
I do what i can do, i dont have access to the game engine, i cant change the textures, models and lightning, that's why im just changing the colors, its all i can do with images.
Tell me which one of those fits Diablo better:
Do you still think its all about brightness and contrast?
Read my previous post. I agree that they look better! I'm just merely pointing out what I see. I'm not trying to start an arguement with you or anything.
@OP
Looks much better.
If they fix the cartoony models/armor too, it would be perfect.

Totally agree with OP, especially as regards character/environment models. It's not just the colors and lighting, it's the damn drawing style too. Fiddling with photoshop doesn't change this.
Edit:
And to the guys who worship Blizzard, please, /wrists. You are a customer and as such you have the right to suggest or even make demands. Blizzard is a company that makes exceptional games and as such our demands will be the same. If we never demand anything then well, that's just unhealthy consumerism where you are paying someone to tell you what to like and if you don't you STFU. Not cool.
A hearty amen to that. Some Blizz fans worship whatever they put out, and then paint critics as whiners without a point. And they of course assume everyone but the critic agrees with them.

Indeed you can. Like I said, I really like the art style of the game, but I wouldn't be opposed to a revision of the color palette. Either way though, it's the gameplay that matters and if the colors remain the same, I'll love it just as much.
Games can be made darker and scarier more effectively than just lowering the brightness/color/contrast. Sure the dungeon areas could be a bit dingier but I think just having more blood smear and impaled bodies on poles like in Diablo 1 would help. Also have scary sounding monsters that jump out at you, or music with a deep base and eerie overtone. I don't think that outside areas should all be dark and depressing. A good mix and difference between the dark and light areas would make the experience more interesting and memorable.

I'm glad so many people agree with the idea of changing the color scheme. What Blizzard's goal should be is to create *unique* universes with separate art styles. I know it is more economical to train your artists to work with only one style and stick to it, but then the styles just melt together and soon there is almost no point in having 3 different IP's ( Intellectual Property - just so I'm no cryptic to those who don't know ).
That is truly the advantage of having a separate studio ( Blizzard North ), you get a divergent style because there isn't quite so much collaboration between projects. Instead, each game has a chance to evolve stylistically into it's own unique experience.
Those areas are above ground so there should be a sun above our heads, making it dark is lame. Even if we are in a dungeon, having a colorful area make is more lively. This is not a thriller/horror game. I bet the artistic team decided to make it colorful for a reason. This is not a game to impress just a few but a few millions.

*shrugs* I guess grandpa will enjoy it then.....
I love it as is.
Darken it ever so slightly if you desire, but can that be done more so with light effect as opposed to colour? If you know what i mean?

Yep. I think we will see some changes to Diablo 3. Not huge changes, for sure, but maybe a few more shadows. This is no where near the final product.

Man, if the game I've been waiting for for years, finally arrives and looks like that, I won't be forking out, that's for sure.
You guys are killing my buzz!! I was soooo stoked when it was announced!! :'(
