The Cain "humor" was a nod to fans; nothing else. Just like "Hell, it's about time." was a nod to fans. But, as far as the art style; I agree. But, I also think Blizzard can make the new art style work.
You pretty much summed it up with your pictures alone. Less color, less cartoony and more darkness
Some parts are going to need more color though, like the desert etc. But tombs, underground places and ancient places should be darker... the smell of impending doom
Look i expect the Brightness outside, with evil being gone for two decades, but when going into a dungon, i would expect darkness, clutter, torned up area's.
I understand what you guys mean, but I am almost certain that Blizzard will continue to work on the graphics and what not. Also, do you guys ever mess with the brightness/contrast IN the game? It helps...
Zynalc: "I believe that most of the people have read some books or seen some films about santa. The typical figure of santa is not invincibley powerful but always very very fraudulent."
Theres perhaps to dark but it does have a certain gloomy feel. I think there just needs abetter balance on where color should be and where it shouldnt. Grass can still be green and leaves brown and red. But in the pictures youve made its just shades of brown. I think diablo3 is gonna have a hard time finding that balance for all players to enjoy.
This is 1,000x better than the other "How It Should Look Like Images" .. But, then again all this was caused by lower brightness/contrast/filtering which could easily be done by the user/Blizzard
I must admit though, I'm a bit stuck between two opinions. I think Diablo 3 the way it is is absolutely freaking beautiful, even more so than Titan Quest, but it's just not Diablo... And, I think I really gotta go with the darker version.
We're not talking about colorless, nor is Ultra's solution the final image that Blizzard should use. He doesn't have access to the engine. What we are talking about is using a SELECTIVE PALETTE for a more GOTHIC MOOD. Use Ultra's images as a general idea for what we're going for, not exactly what the game should look like.
Yeah I do understand that. I wish it was darker also. More shadows. The graphics are still good though and it is a long time until release. I guess it's because we've been waiting for Diablo 3 for so long that people instantly complaining about things about 5 minutes after the announcement is annoying as hell. Especially when the gameplay seems so sweet.
I love the graphic style, but I do agree that the color palette is too pastelly (I know, not a real word.) Anyway, I was messing around with one of the screenshots and I tweaked it a little to represent what I would personally prefer. That said, if the colors stay the same I'm still beyond pumped for the game and the wait to play will be a long one

I think he did a great job. Summed it up.
Me: "Dude, I think you meant 'Satan.'"

But a place like Lut Gholein or the Pandemonium Fortress would need to be alot brighter
