It's really not a pleasant experience to see a WALL OF TEXT SPAM every time you enter the lobby.
The spam bots completely drown any actual conversation in there at times.
If we could at least join a channel and stay there then this'd help tremendously.
But - here's the status quo for channels right now:
- Yeah, you can join a channel. Type /channel join NewChannel.
- But whenever you exit a game, you're sent back to the Lobby and then you manually have to select the channel you joined from the drop down menu again. Does anyone REALLY actually bother with doing this?
- And whenever you restart the client, you have to manually type /channel join NewChannel again because it disappears from the drop down menu. It just seems like one is intentionally pushed to the lobby as much as possible.
Surely this could work a bit better? Blocking the spammers from the chat box doesn't even work, you have to manually find them in the character avatar list and report/ignore/block them if you want to actually ignore them. That's way too cumbersome and we shouldn't be expected to do that. - SURELY this isn't intentional and Blizzard is working to address this ...?
Also, I've suggested this before - but if this spam situation really can't be dealt with 20 years later (...), then perhaps you could allow the players to use custom filters to remove certain phrases and words so that we can do something about it ourselves. Literally anything would help, and at least fixing the lobby channels seems like a relatively quick and easy way to address this, at least for now.
Ultimately the lobby could in fact use a complete overhaul, see this topic and the replies there.
Channels could be a great thing for small communities/groups of friends but this isn't working.

100% agree. What's more--while it's handy that chat persists ingame, that means it brings with it the spam sometimes
There isn't a clear UI for creating new channels, either. You kind of just have to know.
Also the reporting/blocking options sort of...sometimes work and sometimes don't? ???
