I found a Schaefer's Hammer today while scanning the AH. I noticed that it had some very interesting lightning based attributes, and playing a Wizard, I thought it would be an interesting idea to try and use it with a lightning build. I bought it for a measly 50k and decided to run around with it a bit in Inferno Act I and II
It seems to do okay so far, but I'm not exactly an expert on the matter. Is there anyway that this item (or similar ones) could be used for a viable lightning themed build, or would it just be useless? Here is the link to the build that I was experimenting with.
It's not exactly a finished product, but it was a start for it. Any thoughts? Maybe it could be used in PvP if not PvE when it comes out? If it is totally useless, it's still fun to mess around with. I do get bored of the traditional Wizard builds after awhile.
Ive been using a CM/Paralisys Living Lightning build the last few days up to MP5 with ease.
Idea is similar to classic CM builds, but using Living Lightnings fast attacks and free cost instead of ET. You don't need APOC, but IAS and Crit are important. I have constant refreshes on Nova and Skin with 44% crit and only 1.4 APS.
If people are looking for a different, viable build you can try this out. It's fun and kills are fast up to MP4, MP5 you start to slow down. But its not bad, and obviously depends on your DPS The main thing I like about it is any runners or ranged mobs can be hit by aiming through ur mobs in melee and the LL walks out to the ranged mobs accurately after it kills mobs in melee.
Theres a lot of variation here, you can drop a defensive for EB for example, and you don't need Storm Armor or Paralysis. I'm just enjoying the ease of 1-button DPS. You also can use just about any passive, CM mandatory of course.
The spec works with at least LL, frost nova, and either teleport or skin. The rest is really up to you.
I recommend the build above (MW-Electrify, Skin-Shards, Teleport, and SA-reactive or Shocking Aspect) because it's very survivable up to MP5. Elites melt in MP3/4. Skin's 210% damage Shards goes off when it wears off AND when it refreshes, with instant CD resets, it adds up to a lot of damage. I like teleport just because I can reposition and/or move out of desecrate while still holding down LL; helps get me lined up on groups and hit ranged mobs on the far side, or port close to ranged to freeze em to stop damage and DPS them down as the melee mobs yo-yo back to me.
Coupled with storm armor-reactive, and Magic Weapon-electrify, ranged mobs and runners die as your dpsing down the frozen melee mobs. It's a lot of fun, and kills Elites faster than it may seem on paper.

If you have decent crit, I'd say use Shocking Aspect rune for the armor. I think Illusionist would be better than Unstable Anomoly in terms of survivability.

Downside is obviously lower DPS in most situations. Below is my build:

Try it out! I love it.
