The prolific Project XII has written a new entry in his blog at Hellforge featuring what he thinks are the Top 10 Coolest Moments in Diablo and Diablo II.
The Diablo games are renowned for their cool moments. Quests, scripted events, cut scenes and skills: all offering a plethora of fun things for us to oogle and yell “Holy crap!” at.
Time and graphics may have diminished some of them now, but we still have our fond memories. Not to mention a few new ones coming our way, if the D3 gameplay video has anything to say about it. Let’s look at the Top Ten Coolest Moments from everything Diablo related we’ve seen so far.
And remember, if you think you know cooler ones, you’re wrong, and probably thought Transformers was a good movie.
As soon as I saw the title I thought to myself "the butcher better be number 1". Good work :). Still can't recall a scarier moment in videogaming, me and my mate were both screaming in genuine terror (we were only 11 at the time).
I still remember the first time fighting Duriel, you enter the last chamber of a dark crypt, you look around as the music is soft and quiet, then BAM! You're stabbed many times by this giant slug guy trying to run and all you're summoned creatures die almost instantly and you TP outta there so fast you accidently drink half you potions in the process. You rest in town for a minute or two as your heart races. You finally get back into the crypt only to die immediately... Good times
Edit: My first encounter with Duriel was with an Amazon in singleplayer... I never got her past there.

What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.
Haha, the butcher. Like most people, I still curse the heavens when I start a new game and see the bloodied guy next to the monastery. And then, even when I think I'm the right level to face him, I still pee my pants when I hear "Ahhh, fresh meat."
nice list i agree with the duriel part aswell duriel looks so cool and i love the sound of his voice haha.
I rkn they should have included 'first time doing ubers' in there. I remember the first time i did uber trist i didnt plan it at all and used my summoner necro lol and ended up needing lots of help from friends who all also had chars that weren't suited to it lol ended up taking us a while but we got it done eventually lol.
also first time running into diablo clone is intense lol.
i remember one game i was trying to trade items and then got the soj count, got a friend to check the server and said it was hot so i waited in game. the soj count was going crazy and lots of ppl kept on joining wanting to trade and i kept on saying 'sold thx' really fast so they would leave then one guy joined and saw the soj count. so there it was, both of us in game with our smiters both hostiled each other and running around making tps at the first unique monster and trying to not let the other one know our location lol. this went on for a good 30mins then the msg came up 'diablo walks the earth' and it was on! most intense diablo moment for me lol
I liked the list.. only 1 thing about LOD "finding uniquees".. finding rares would be better Before LOD that thing was fun, you never knew the stats it could be total crap or super rare.
I remember when I first played hardcore mode and a party of lowbies battled our way through act 1 and 2 then Duriel ended up killing more the half of everyone. I think only 2-3 outa 8 survived.
He's just so random and probably the scariest of the D2 bosses.

i know it wont happen, but it would be awesome to meet him again on D3 in full 3d glory, imagine his room even more gory then before in full 3d and sharp textures to see all the messy gore details.

This would be crazy... and if your a sick bastard, then so am I cause I would love to see that....

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

It seems that we're sick batards allround (that's not a misspelling--It's french!). If the butcher were to somehow return, that would make my LIFE. I nearly wet myself the first time I saw him... I can only imagine what he would be like all dressed up in a 3-D gorefest.*shivers*
He's number 1 on the list for sure.

And we can tie these caterpillars together to make bow strings for bows and arrows.

There was even talk of french toast, but there was none to be had
I think they might be saving the Butcher for the MMO game. After all, I would expect all of the previous locations / characters / lore returning in one huge package. Alas, looks like the 'unannounced' MMO is not Diablo-related at all.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

And no, I didn't think the Butcher was any scary at all when I met him the first time. Although he did pack a punch.
#3 should have been #1 in my opinion, that has got to be one of my favorite cinematics of all time.
