I'm about to start reading books in the Diablo universe, and was wondering where I should start; what series I should start with?
I'm more looking for a book that's a good starting point chronologically, rather than just a "good read."
I know of Knaak's 6 books, but I'm wondering if the others that have been written should be read before his? Would any 1 book give me solid background I'll need for others? Or are they all basically distinct novels that have no tie to the others?
Thanks for the input
P.S. Hope I'm not ... I felt this belonged here as it's in the Diablo universe, whereas the "Books/Comics/Etc" threads all deal with books in general, and I was hoping for a more pointed answer.

That is the order. I'd recommend the Sin War first, no matter what reason you wish to read the books for. They are first, best, most up to date and most interesting from a lore perspective.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
As with all of them, the Sin War is first. The next four books you can read in any order, although it's suggested that you read The Kingdom of Shadow before Moon of the Spider. Personally, Legacy of Blood was my favorite.
The Kingdom of Shadow is still my favorite book. And you can immediately get insight into what the city will look like that will be in Diablo3.

I actually started with Birthright(part one of Sin War) just two days ago. I've only read a couple chapters but it's good so far and I haven't noticed anything that suggests another book should have been read first.
I hadn't read a fantasy book in 11 years prior to starting this. I normally just read history books, so this has been an interesting change for me. So far, so good. I'm enjoying Knaak's writing style so far. Who knows, once I finish the Diablo books I may have to go back and read his Dragon Lance stuff, I know my brother probably has them in a box someplace.
