Howdy,
Thought I'd make a post after a very up-and-down evening last night.
I made my HC barb about 6 weeks ago after clearing up to Act 3 Inferno SC on both a barb and a DH. I do enjoy the game very much, but was frustrated with the AH inflation. Starting over in HC was quite the eye-opener. Having to start from scratch with no money was actually quite invigorating and a fun challenge. Eventually my barb hit level 60 and I started the gear grind. I also got the Hellish Staff of Herding after some item/money grinding.
Last night I was progressing through the latter parts of Act 1 inferno and cleared it with a good group of random joiners. After I unlocked Act 2, I went back and was going to farm more Act 1, but fate had other plans. I got pinned by an elite pack of Arcane minions in one of the Crypts, and my barb finally bought the farm. (I always suspected that Arcane would be my nemesis, haha.)
I've already started a monk and am excited to be trying it again, but without the severe handicap of no cash. My stash is unlocked, my staff of herding is still there, my BS and JC are leveled up. All kinds of good stuff remain.
Other random thought: Since I'm not really a big fan of the idea of items for real money, I'm happy to be playing in an environment that only allows gold auction house transactions.
Anyways, I just figured I'd share my story. And while I mourn my character, there will be others, and they will avenge his death.
I started playing hardcore a few weeks ago (2?) for some of the same reasons you listed and my monk is allllmost 60. After I killed Diablo, I figured the only logical step was to start hardcore. I love the fact that gold seems to be considerably harder to come by in hardcore, and as such it's much more meaningful.
I definitely feel like hardcore is the way the game is meant to be played. You take your time, you clear areas around elites, you carefully chase golbins (not into black areas), you farm gear where appropriate instead of corpse bashing your way through the game. And you really feel like you accomplished something when you clear an act on inferno. I could not play the game any other way. Better luck with your monk, they are pretty beefy I hear.
gold isnt too hard to come by, if you have alot of softcore gold or have the time to vendor farm a bit for good items to sell on ah, but either way hardcore is alot of fun
I haven't played much hardcore yet, I only started it as a fun thing because I was sick of playing my softcore char. I tried the wizard out since I wanted to play a wizz but never did it on sc. Only got to Belial in normal before I died Had an unlucky possition in that fight and got one shooted. But since I only was lvl 22 and had less that 6h time played was it not that big of a lose. But I found that hc was more appealing and fun to play. Don't know if it have to do with the dying part/starting over that makes it more interesting. But I will after practicing some more in sc start a new hc char and by some time kill Diablo in inferno
I don't like hardcore in diablo 3 but that's because i'm very insecure. It took me 5 years before i decided to get into hardcore in diablo 2, and i did so with a bunch of FG wealth behind my back. I might start hardcore eventually, but it isn't a priority right now hehe

Working with adobe and/or java is like pushing a paper clip against a building and expecting it to move...
RIP, always got to keep an eye on arcane, especially when there's CC involved like waller that can trap you against a wall. I play WD and am always on the lookout for this.
On your other points, yes, HC is the real game, SC is ridiculously unsatisfying. We all die - sometimes it's like this, sometimes to bugs in the game or discon's.. don't let it keep you down! Remember the fun is in the journey
I JUST UPGRADED MY PHONE TO ICS AND CANT WRITE IN LOWERCASE. ANYWAYS, I STARTED A HC BARB AFTER PLAYING SC BARB FOREVER AND GOT TO 56.. GOT JAILED BACK TO BACK AND THATS ALL SHE WROTE :/ - STARTED A MONK UP AND HES ALREADY AT 54, LOVING IT! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.
Update: phone fixed itself, lowercase is working as intended. Monk died at 56, just like my previous Barb.. seemed like when I got to the high 50s I was more careless. This past week my friend and I decided to level barbs and grinded the Shit out of act 1 / act 2 hell..eventually dinging 60 (yay). We finished hell and I built a budget ww set, currently farming A1 inferno, SnB WW, without any issues.
I started a few HC characters, but I realized there's no point. PvP will be exactly the same so I'd rather invest my time into something I can get a return on (like gear drops on the RMAH) while doing my paragon leveling in SC.

Good luck with your reroll!
