Change it to what? the RPG genre in general has stagnated.
It started when RPG became mainstream and people needed a breadcrumb trail to get from the quest giver to the quest area/mob.
Change the medieval setting (I guess SWTOR already did this), change the camera angle (1st person, Isometric), change the whole "lvl up, train in professions, kill 20 trolls, rinse and repeat" gameplay. Maybe a more complex combat system, with stuff like combos, or active blocking. What about a The Sims MMO? Or a Pokemon MMO? I don't know, there's a lot that could be done.
Still unsure about this. For starters I really liked what they did with Skyrim and I'd guess the isometric view could be there just for a better view of everything. I'd also guess the really cool gear isn't being showed (gimme Daedric again please!), same with the dungeons. All we've seen are a few atronachs and bits and pieces of not too special areas.
One of the things that makes me doubt it'll have the feeling of a real Elder Scrolls game is the fact that there's going to be many heroes. The whole point of every single Elder Scrolls game I've played so far was that "shit, the world is going down, I'm the one that needs to save it"!
Unfortunately after seeing more of it, it seems like a really canned experience not trying to tread off the beaten mmo path at all. Such a disappointment.
It doesn't even LOOK like an Elder Scrolls game to me. It looks more like Fable.
It's being made by Zenimax though not Bethesda so what did I expect.
Yeah there's just money to be made in that shit. Man if they made high quality MMO's with total adult content then I'd be more willing to look into it.
Guild Wars 2 is looking promising. At least a nice break from the traditional Everquest/WoW style.
I really miss MMOs like Ultima Online though. That game had such a long list of skills it was insane. You could be a bard and sit around town playing your lute, or you could be a necromancer and spirit speak with the dead, or you could be a smith and go out with your pack mule to mine, smelt your ores and craft weapons and armor, you could even just chop down trees and craft furniture if you wanted. Hell there was even a begging skill that allowed you yo get gold from NPC's every so often.
There were no "classes" you just chose a handful of skills and made a class based on that. So if you wanted to be a warrior you would pick up anatomy so you knew where to hit the enemy, and tactics, you also might want to pick up healing so you could bandage yourself better (anatomy helped out with this skill also), and then something like focus to help regenerate stamina and mana, obviously a weapon skill like swordsmanship. It might also help to get hit by a lot of weaker magic spells so you could skill up Spell Resistance.
You could even play a "private eye" type of character if you wanted. It was helpful on PvP areas to find out what happened to someone. Forensic Evaluation could help determine what killed someone, then you could pick up snoop, to look through peoples packs to see if they have a poison or weapon that killed someone, you could evaluate someones intelligence to determine if they would even be smart enough to cast the magic that killed the person, you could pick up taste identification to determine if a food is poisoned, Anamtomy would tell you how strong someone is also. Tracking would tell you if anyone was hidden or stealthing around.
You could play a pirate/treasure hunter. Buy your own ship, set sail with cartography, fishing along the way for food and even messages in a bottle with treasure maps, and loot sometimes. Cooking and camping skills to stop and sleep somewhere and have cooked food to eat. Follow maps and dig up treasure a lot of it is trapped though, which you can learn to disarm traps too.
Or you can learn animal herding, veterinary, animal lore to tell you what the pets like to eat, their temperment and stats, animal taming. Bard skills work great here because you can soothe animals while you tame them and even end up taming nice things like White Wyrms who live in icey dungeons.
The different ways you could customize your character were insane.

"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."

I think this game looks really boring. Most Elder Scrolls games are boring anyway though.
