alright guys, i need some advice on the mass effect series,
im bored with every game i have right now so i need something new to occupy my time with,
so i was thinking about ME1,2,3, can someone who has played it shed some light on as to whether
or not to buy the whole series?. im a story driven gamer so let me know if the games story is
really good or bad to you guys. thanks (looked at all trailers and what not but i still need players inputs)
just dont wanna waste money is all.
Despite the controversy with the third one, overall they are definitely worth playing all the way through. The first one doesn't have the best combat mechanics, but by the time you finish the third one, you'll be sentimental for everything about the first one. And the second one is overall really great.
Hated the first one, second was pretty good, third one felt a little rehashy and pretty short. Overall It's a fair series and if you're into the deep stories that Bioware creates (eg. Dragon Age) then you'd probably like Mass Effect as well. Plus, ME 1 and 2 together only cost $40 on steam.

My place really was here. I was too foolish and stubborn to notice. But, what I truly hoped for then was here. Why do I always realize it When I've already lost it.
The first one the main gripe people had was the combat being a little offputting but mostly people hate the parts where you drive around.
The second one was great, some people have said they removed some of the story choices but I really enjoyed it.
The third a lot of people are aggravated with the ending. I'm not going to spoil it for you but it just didn't blow me away like I felt it should have.
All in all though its a great series and probably the most compelling story spread out over three games I've ever played.
All of your choices will keep transferring from game to game and make small changes in your experience compared to others so I'd say its worth it to buy and play them all.
They'll be releasing a free DLC to provide some additional ... stuff regarding the endings of the third one. I love the series, and Bioware appears to be working towards a correction for the one flaw with the third game. While the ending to the third game didn't really bother me, i'm expecting the DLC to make the ending much more satisfying, which would make the third game absolutely fantastic. if you can manage to juggle repeat playthroughs of the first 2 games before playing the third I would suggest that. Hopefully by the time you've finished they'll have the DLC out so you can bypass the whole ending molehill completely.
3rd game doesnt have that massive improvement from 1 -> 2 but it is about the same level as the 2nd.
For the most part they had the combat all figured out by 2 so there weren't many serious changes to it that needed to be made in 3.
And yeah I don't get why so many people think the combat in ME1 is that awful, really. My biggest problem with it was just that skills didn't really make much of a difference either way. You could be any class really and most skills had some way of temporarily disabling an enemy whether it was making them float or overloading their weapons. But I still thought it was fun. And at least ME1 has the Mako which I personally thought was a blast especially when fighting the Geth.
That's mainly interpretations and nitpicking in my opinion.
Not all. I mean, some of it is pretty uncanny while other things I can forgive as few ideas are totally original anymore. There are also homages, and there are total ripoffs. What I'm seeing here is a combination of all these things.
