I'm looking at the sales on steam and was wondering if I should get Fallout new vegas or just get fallout 3. Anyone give me some info or your thoughts?
Edit: So I more of a roam around and do whatever player in these kinds of games and it sounds like vegas might be the way to go. But, Ive heard vegas is smaller by far.
Fallout 3 is by far better with its story line.
if you want improved game mechanics then New Vegas has it.
try out both, i got em both of steam back when they were released, both are good. me personally i'm playing Fallout 3 for the 3rd time atm, while i've played NV only once...
I agree I liked the storylines in FO3 better. The side quests, both games main quests have pretty weak stories that's all bethesda games though. Also the DLC were all really good.

I actually liked the story to New Vegas better in some ways. Maybe because it referenced the original Fallout games more than F3 did. Game mechanics are only marginally better in New Vegas. I mean you can make your own ammo which I hardly ever did and the follower system was a bit improved which was nice I suppose.
New Vegas I might say though is in greater need of visual mods. I don't know why the colors look more washed out in that game than they were even in F3. It's like there's a piss filter on everything or something. New Vegas also had one of my favorite DLC's as well which was Dead Money. Yeah I've seen all those sales on Steam last night. Some good deals for sure especially if you've never played the Fallout games. I bought the Deus Ex DLC last night for just five bucks down from 15.

i agree that NV was more related to Fallout 1-2, being on the west coast and the return of Marcus and lots of referances to F1-F2.
but in F3 you get connected to your char right from the begining and you basicly know almost everything about your char about the same way it was delivered in the original Fallout games.
in NV you just get into the shoes of some carrier that you have no clue who he is, what he did before and the game focus more on getting the chip then knowing your char, which ruins the story in my opinion...
They're both good in their own right. I think that Fallout 3 has a better feel than New Vegas, but New Vegas definitely has a lot of stuff to do.
The only thing I don't like about New Vegas is the fact that all the factions are so volatile to whatever you do with other factions. Like, you could be going back and forth between factions and, if you decide to fully align yourself with one of them, so much shit goes out of order.

There's some cool potential with factions too, I think. Like you could join the Brotherhood or the Enclave or the Master's remnant, or maybe be a total freelance type.
I played and finished both and i gotta say that i spent more time on new vegas for some reason. Well, the combat is better in new vegas to be honest. In FO3 you cant aim down sights, not that it makes such a difference though.
I'd say start with FO3 and if you like it and fiish it, get new vegas or the DLC's.
With how much I keep going back to play Fallout, I'll just admit it. I'd totally love a new Fallout game. Even after playing F3 and New Vegas for so long, I'm really not tired of it at all.

...I'm always up for talking about Fallout for some reason. I think I still like it better than Skyrim.
