From what I've seen via YouTube videos, and a bit from the character builder, it looks like Rift meets DCUO.
The skills menu looks very much like Rift, and the UI looks very much like DCUO.
I personally wasn't a big fan of either of those games -- I was spoiled by Dark age of Camelot. This means nothing though, because I don't know how the game plays, or what it is even like to play it at all. It could be fantastic!

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
I bought Swtor, and can say that if you play any other MMO and purchase swtor, you will in fact have trouble returning to any other mmo, guaranteed. The only exception is if you do not like the world of star wars, because the combat is as close to the smoothest youll get in an mmo (wow is by far the smoothest ive found when it comes to combat). The story is the selling point, but they do not mean the actual story, they mean the story mechanics. NPCs talking to you is in fact incredible, but EQ2 did that somewhat. The selling point in my opinion is in fact your character actually interacts with the NPCs. You will want to quest just to see what you can say you each npc, it's more rewarding than money, gear and exp in my opinion.
Though, swtor will not last when Diablo III comes out for me, because I was a huge WoW player for years, but quit because I liked to play by myself, or with only a few people. I wanted the best of the game without needing a ton of people, and Blizzard delivered to my wants with Diablo III, because it is a 1-4 player gothic feeling wow in my opinion, so it will steal me away from anything.

hmm you seem like you enjoyed it. i was an ex-wow player but the game just got boring as hell in cata.. hit lvl 85 and never played again. would you recommend this game over WoW?
I got to test it and I overall enjoyed the immersion it had over wow, although it's not as fast paced as WoW leveling is slower but the story and stuff sems alot better. In WoW it was always kill x and y which kinda sucked in my opinion cause I enjoyed the lore in wc3 andt

as ex-wow player (since 21.Feb.05), quitted about 3-4 months ago...i can definately say that SWTOR is way better then wow.
wow could be as good if they would deliver the story and the lore as good as SWTOR.
look at the companion system, in wow only few chars have pets (hunter, lock, dk, frost mages) and they are there only as pets...
in SWTOR, everyone get a "pet' and each companion has a whole story and lore of itself, and you actually get "rep" with your companion depends on your answers or reactions to NPCs and discover more and more lore about em.
in short, SWTOR is a copy of WoW, IS better fun then WoW and its in a Star Wars settings.
I loved wow, not going to lie, but after 6 years finally called it quits. Personally I didn't like the need to rely on 9-24 other people to have any fun, and when i reflected on how many hours i spent just standing in a major city, my brain exploded.
SWTOR only brings a couple new things to the mmo table, most notably the deeper storyline. the interaction is actually quite fun. It has a polished UI compared to other mmo's, and a couple new(er) features like aoe loot and whatnot. But when you boil it down, it's just another mmo. And personally I'm tired of them; Played everything from WoW to warhammer, aion, rift, and for myself the fundamental flaw with a mmo atmosphere is that you HAVE to play with everyone else to get anywhere.
Thus the reason I <3 D3, because popping on for 15 minutes means I can actually do something =P<br/>
All in all, swtor is fun (the cinematics are badass, I've watched em a couple times each now lol) but if you have gotten tired of MMO's this one is really no different. I feel bad because my buddies and I quit wow, but now they want to play this and I have to tell them I don't feel like having a second job where I'm required to play at a certain time, for a certain time.

Yes F.line, I would say Swtor is very enjoyable compared to WoW right now, especially if you have already capped a character on WoW already because most of the story is done, and on WoW the story is mostly blocks of text so it's hard to get into anyway. But, on Swtor you should at least get one character to capped level just to see what the storyline is because it has single player elements embedded into the leveling experience so you don't feel like you are just going from npc to npc, clicking blocks of text and turning in.
Like I said before, each quest is a whole different conversation that can go pretty much any way you want, to gain light side or darkside points as well as gain affection with your compansions, so it really adds immersion to the conversations =) On top of that, you still get the ol' moneys, items and exp for turning in, but this time you feel like you actually earned the quest reward. One Npc told me once that my payment was more than he makes in a week, which made me feel pretty awesome =)
edit: Swtor will feel slightly stiff compared to wow because it has no auto attack, but if you removed auto attack from wow, wow would feel more stiff than swtor I would think. Also when I logged on wow a couple weeks ago after playing the swtor beta, I literally felt mmo *blind*, like I had no idea what to do in terms of content or immersion, I just looked at trade chat and hit the raid finder, went into the raid and stood around, attacked a boss then left, because it just didn't immerse me at all. Then I logged back on swtor and went to a quest npc and felt like I could see again. =)
edit2: For the record, I don't actually like star wars that much, I prefer warcraft lore over swtor, but swtor is overall much more fun to play. By the way, it isn't the story that makes swtor so awesome, I mean it is great, but it's the story mechanics that make it impressive because they present the story in such a way that even a person such as myself that doesn't really prefer star wars lore, actually wants to partake in it. =)

Obviously you have not heard of Guild Wars 2, a game that doesn't copy off of any MMO to this date, that will be unbelievably refreshing, and doesn't require one group to get to max level and acquire end-game gear =). It doesn't have a boring quest system, but a persistent and dynamic world that reacts to your character on a personal level, where you run into events that can be accomplished alone. But one major innovation of Guild Wars 2 on top off all these others I have just mentions, is the fact that you can interact with other players during these events and out in the world without them stealing you mobs or loot, everyone helps each other out and acquires equal rewards if both contribute equally. Did I mention its an action MMO as well, meaning no static 1,2,3... button mashing and staring at a bar timer.
Don't worry, I don't work for Arenanet, I'm just passionate about this game, because no one will be able to come up with any valid point that prove that this game won't be the best MMO ever to exist. =)

You're right I haven't heard much on it, and it sounds like it could be a cool twist on the regular MMO. BUT, you are referring to an AMMO ( or mmoa, w/e), whereas I was talking about the traditional MMORPG. I'll have to check that out tho, sounds fun.

Yeah Guild Wars 2 is kinda in a league of its own. If you want a game similar to a traditional mmorpg in content (ie. Raids, farming, quests) but with an Action combat system... that would be TERA the p2p MMOARPG. But i'm done with p2p... that's something I forgot to mention, GW2 is buy to play, meaning you buy once and you play free forever, however it does have an online shop, though it is whats called an ethical online shop being that only cosmetic things, extra character slots and maybe server change is whats sold. It doesn't sell anything that can give advantages to any player. =)
I was waiting for swtor for about 2 months now, and finally when the 20th hit I went to the local game store only to find out that it wasn't there. That's when I learned that the release is going to be postponed a couple of months for Australia.
I'm so sick of waiting that I decided to say fuck off to swtor and just wait for guild wars 2 since it's coming out earlier. Just something to play that my computer can run, that'll fill in the time between now and D3's release...

I pretty much agree with this. Also an ex-wow player. Being tired of hardcore raiding for the last two years I quit and am now playing swtor with a friend. I'm plain sick of all the raiding and being dependent on other people, so all I do now is just enjoy our co-op play when we both have time. It's pretty fun I must say and reminds me of KotOR. Group dialogues are brilliant, those moments when you dislike someone and try to harass him/her, and your friend starts flirting, make me laugh, or when you decide to let someone live and the friend kills him with his last successful answer roll. We also happened to have a good class combination and enough experience to beat early 4-player flashpoints (instances) together: a welcome challenge without countless wipes due to random raid member's incompetence. As a co-op rpg the game makes me happy, and I would recommend it as such. But I don't know what else to expect. BGs are pretty much the same, and I don't think raiding will be much different. Personally I enjoy this game more than wow because I like sci-fi settings more and because there's this awesome storyline with co-op mode. But I personally don't believe raiding will be different (in fact I believe it will be much worse) and I also trust Blizzard much more in terms of balance. So all in all i'll play swtor in rpg-mode for a month or two and next mmo I'll step foot into will be Titan.
The argument between WoW and SWTOR is old and boring, but I'll chime in real fast. If you like Star Wars, and play MMOs I don't see how you couldn't like this game.
I have been playing for like 3 days almost non-stop now (cept for work lol) and it's just a great game. Visually pleasing, mechanically smooth. Space combat is very entertaining, and there seems to be a good bit of content to go through (im only level 20, which has taken quite some time, and ive seen very little of the game so far).
I do believe I will be playing SWTOR for quite some time to come. I've already cancelled the WoW subscription, and I don't see myself ever going back there. If D3 is enough of a game for me to give my full game time to, then so be it, but while im playing an MMO, it will almost certainly be SWTOR over WoW.
I guess it's finally time for me to admit I've been playing SWTOR. Level 31 now got into early access and leveled a sith sorcerer to 18 but then I tried out a bounty hunter and loved it.
I plan to revisit many classes and give them a try though.
The game is really fun, if you enjoy mmos and are willing to give a futuristic setting a chance (c'mon you get lightsabers!) it's amazing.
As many others have said the game has many mechanics that set it apart and above other mmos. The Crew Skills system is the best profession/crafting system I have ever laid hands on, and I've been around mmos. They did a good job at making it seem SO much less boring. The companion system works great they fight and heal like they should. The dialogue choices and unique class stories are really interesting if you're into that sort of thing, great voice acting. Space combat is like starfox. You can do as many space missions as you want to, hell you could level with it if you wanted. There is also daily missions for space battle that give you MORE exp. The combat feels much more smooth than any other hotkey mmo I've ever played, the animations are fluid and powerful feeling.
I wasn't a HUGE fan of starwars, knew little of the lore outside of the movies but if you like mmos and are okay with Star Wars there is NO reason not to get this.
