I honestly didn't even know that a movie was being made about Diablo :/.
Hope it doesn't turn out like those other countless video game movies..
Don't mean to be a naysayer, but no doubt it will.
*sigh*
Oh well, I'll still watch it.
I REALLY hope they do a good job though, if Blizzard's skill in making lore is anything to go by, the movie will no doubt have a badass storyline, and dialogue.

I don't think that would be a good idea. It's a video game company, not a movie company.
Ok, lets change the idea of "movie" we seem to be dealing with here. Lets say it is an animation instead of real time with real actors. Blizzard has a little experience in that field wouldn't you say? I think in that instance Blizz could definitely stand to oversee it or at least give advice. I think also for the same reason they should be entitled to say whether a real time movie has the Diablo feel.
But in any case, lets hope its along the lines of Constantine in terms of darkness. Love that movie.

Well, those are some fine details that weren't part of the original argument
I would say Blizzard has more experience making video games, and an animated studio has more experience making animated movies.
If this is ever made, I would hate for it to just be a bunch of special effects, gore, and boobs flopping everywhere. Movies these days mostly suck like that- all catered to hormonal teenage boys. There should be no lack of good story and the acting should be top-level (or voice acting, if they would go animated).
Those of you who don't think it's a good idea... I garuntee you would still want to see it when it came out. Diablo is Diablo and you would still honor it by seeing it, even if they have no experience with movies.

I agree completely. But look at the flipside. what if Blizz does give over the rights and the movie is so off from Diablo that it ruins it. Like the Dragonball movie lol.
I would hate for the movie to be as you described it being catered to teenagers. But I would also hate to see it turn out to be a crappy version of LOTR.

Well, either way, someone is going to be disappointed. What I would like is for the project to be undertaken by proffessionals of the field and for it to accomplish its goal as a movie that happens to be about a game and series of books.
But you are very right in that I do not want it to turn out like you said (that makes me think of the shitty Eragon movie conversion- I hadn't even read the book before I saw the movie and it made me gag).
From where Blizzard is, we all know they have the money and the fanbase. From a screenwriter's standpoint, we all know there is enough lore in the Diablo books and games, and unfinished plot points, to make a good many more games and such. We know that there are plenty of good actors out there and we know there are plenty of people that do superb jobs of lighting, special effects, and music.
Now, if I can trust Blizzard to know how to put this all together to correctly make a movie, something that isn't their business and that they have never done before, I am found wanting. Most authors that have their books transformed on to the silver screen will say that "it's in the movie peoples' hands, I'm just a book author", because they are two different entertainment mediums. The same can be said, I believe, for video games.
Now, am I saying that Blizzard couldn't do it? No, and I'm not assuming that you're assuming that I think that. Do I have more faith in a video game company to make a movie than a movie company? No, I don't.
It really just depends on how much the Diablo game people and lore creators (like Knaak, if he even got involved) would know where they need to sacrifice what they think would be good for a movie to the professionals who know what would be good for a movie, and visa versa.

Good point "It's in the movie people's hands"
And since we're on the subject. I hope they do as good of a job of representing the game as those that made the Harry Potter movies.
I don't want to sound like a little HP fanboy or anything but man those films are good.
I couldnt get over how awesome the lighting was for Malffoy (sorry if i mispelled) scenes that made it feel so dark. The progression in the movies from light to dark has been awesome.
Back on topic, as I said, I ohpe they will do Diablo the same type of justice. And knowing Legendary Pictures, they will if they ever get around to it.

No matter who makes this movie, they have the right to it and if they don't make it themselves, they wouldn't let something bad happen out of it.
I just don't get the debate here. And Blizzard know what makes a scene great, and what makes a story great.
Their small animated videos, while that : small, proves me that they have the skill. Some in WC3 are incredibly well presented and the WotLK movie is just insanely good.
This said, as far as I'm concerned, book authors may not be related to making movies at all, but gaming AND movies have a LOT of things in common. While one is interactive and the other isn't, they both work on visual, character development, story, technical limitations and etc.
Before they sign the rights of the movie over to a professional movie company. They should require the movie makers to Play the Diablo Series till they just can't sleep anymore. They would also have to read all the Diablo Books. That way the movie makers would know how we want the movie and they will make it kick ass for us.

300 is awesome. but if it turned out like 300 it wouldn't be Diablo because Diablo is not 300, 300 is 300.

I just hope it gets a good director.
Or it could get turned into a generic action film ala Dwayne the Rock Johnson staring as The Barbarian!
Since its Legendary I think it would be a failure. They would probably make it alot like 300.

Talk about one of the worst actresses of all time. And you want to cast her overpaid ass as my favorite class in D2?
Angelina Jolie? Another worthless Hollywood bitch? Unreal.
