That article is from almost 7 years ago...Besides what ever happened to them making a WoW movie? It's all talk, I'll believe it when I see some action proof that they're making this junk.
The story is interesting enough in game form as it is. I'm involved to the point of actually interacting with the primary characters as well as the storyline. No further, nor deeper impression is possible. One would expect that having a supersized image projected onto a large screen would provide for a much more satisfying overall impression, and for the most part this is a correct assumption. But considering that Hollywood has to be involved for said projection to take place, and suddenly everything goes out the window.
One, such as myself, would rather have an impression of a great world just at a level of sufficient, than a defiled and abhorrent (mis)representation of an idea of a concept of a translation of a story somewhat resembling that of a popular game. Masterpieces such as Doom and Dungeon Siege were instrumental in the formation of this opinion.

Well, someone has to get it right. It cannot be a physical impossibility for a movie based on a game to be good.
And if a movie is to finally be good, then I'd very much like it to be Diablo or Warcraft, the latter which is in fact supposed to come out 2009.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
It depends... if Chris Metzen was one of the screenplay writers I'd give it a chance.
The Halo script was written by the creator as well.. though they stopped that one's production. Depending on how much influence the producers have on the storyline, I think it might stand a chance in movie longevity.
the things that make games like Diablo interesting (slaying hordes of monsters all the time) can be quite boring in a movie. For an actual film to be interesting, the story (Sin War for example) would have to be the most important thing and the battles dramatic but not too long (i remember counting how many minutes Neo fought the "Smiths" in Matrix - Reloaded out of boredom).
Quite hard, but i dont doubt that it will be made only if Blizzard is sure the movie will keep the franchises good tradition.
it would have to be CG like final fantasy, or have relatively unknown actors like the ones in LotR at that time. i dont really want to see a big name actor be one of the heros.

I was who submited to Joystiq and other Gaming sites the news that Legendary Pictures had posted Diablo at their Under Development section. I got the heads up from tRaDiNgYo.
Thousands of fans visited Legendary Pictures website and indeed saw it was true. It was listed there. However, 24 hours after it had gone through half the web, they promptly removed/unlisted Diablo.
Most likely Blizzard PR may have requested it to be taken down -- specially if it has not been officially announced by Blizzard. Was it a mistake by the webmaster? Or are they working on it in secrecy? Not an easy one to figure out. It's been over a year since then. Diablo III was announced, and nothing was mentioned about a film either.
All we have left to do is wait. A diablo film a la 300 film would rock though.

But then this begs the question, would one be willing to thoroughly sully a franchise several times over through a known butcher of lore, again and again, across a big screen in plain sight for millions around the world to absorb, for just a slight chance of one successful rendition? Even with the exceedingly likely scenario viewers would look upon such renditions as nothing more than the product of a tragically flawed franchise, overhyped by nostalgic gamers, and thus completely undeserving of praise?
With the exception of one maybe two game-based movies, and half of that was a butcher in itself, the chance of a desecrated rendition has thus far been proven to far outweight the chance of a successful one. It would be difficult for at least one person in this world to sleep at night knowing that so many have the wrong impression of a great franchise.
It ain't gonna happen, because it just won't ok. I heard all these things about a Diablo Movie before; and it hasn't happened. I think the project was scrapped a long time ago.
Anyways... Legendary Pictures did accidentally put Diablo up with Warcraft in their production list on their website for a few hours a couple of months ago. In fact, I'd say it's highly likely that - even if they haven't begun work on the film yet - they're slating it in as a possibility.
My guess would be they're waiting to see how Warcraft the movie does in theatres before handling the other Blizzard series. (By the way, they are for sure making the Warcraft movie. It's not all talk).
Blizzard should go to Movie Making and not just Game Making, though i would really like to get Diablo III, I would also like a Goddamn Movie from Blizzard, Few Games, become Movies, Blizzard is just to lazy to make a Movie, they prefer games more better
