Not a whole lot of information released, I remember trying 11 and not liking it what so ever but I'm not a FF fan. Anyone know more than me on this game?
I know a few things. First off, there are no classes. Anybody can switch to any class at anytime (excluding in combat). However, you do have to level each class up. Therefore if leveled your x class to ten and then switched, you would be level 1 of y class. There are also some interesting class choices. Crafting and gathering are classes and not professions. The idea is that your character is well rounded and can adjust to any circumstance. If you need a healer fro your group, anyone who has leveled their healer can switch to it. If you go into a mine, you can switch to your mining class to mine it. It seems to be very versatile.
Another cool concept is their missions. When you get a mission from a person you actually have a choice on what to do. You can kill count, gather, defeat a harder boss, clear a dungeon. The harder mission you choose the better the reward. It is a nice balance for SP and MP. If you are playing solo just for a few minutes you can do a few quick/simple quests. If your "raid" group is on then you can choose to clear the dungeon. All missions are shareable so everyone has a reason to do it with you.

When you say switch class do you mean as in literally switch your class by pressing a button or more so going somewhere and talking to someone and switching?
Well, it says anywhere adn anytime so I am assuming it is just a button or more reasonably an interface that you open and switch. I don't exactly know how gear works and if you will be able to swap gear as easily. However, the classes are not like typical mmo classes. I think (don't quote me on this) that there are only a few offensive classes, there are also crafting and gathering classes.
For example, you have a quest to collect five red stones, then you need to use those stones to create a key, then you take the key to open a room to fight a dragon. You need a gatherer to collect the stones, a crafter to make the key, a fighter to fight the dragon and a healer to heal the fighter.
There are four categories of classes melee, magic, gatherer, crafter. In each category there are subclasses and this is where you make your choices on what to be. However, you can switch from your magic choice to your melee choice and so on. But you can not be two of them at once.

Saw this in one of the game informers and looked sweet. Do you know if the combat system is still gonna be gay (turn based), or are they goin with a more direct approach.

Just curious if you like WoW or not since WoW is practically turn based as it is hit for hit and takes no real skill as far as aiming or any other player controlled usage beyond hitting a 1-10 button.
ALSO: The beta has been up for sign up for awhile now.

I don't consider WoW turn base what so ever. Turn base to me is when all of your actions are done on a single turn and no further actions by you are done until your opponents turn is over. If you correlate the term "turn" into WoW you correlate it into anything that requires an action. Doesn't make sense.
No one knows when the beta is starting. Common sense would say pretty soon, as they have stated they want a long beta session (6months). And yea, is for both PS3 & PC.
The fighting is not turned based. I believe it will be similar to ffXI

omg I'm really surprised by that video, i consider final fantasy to be one of the best games of all time, but whats with everyone going through and inside each other? The monster was attacking and when it got close he just appeared inside the character being played.

Most of WoW is infact turn based as most of the game is in fact hit for hit, which in another term would be considered turn based. No movement freedom can deflect a hit and no obstacles can save you from a hit thus in the end it is turn based classic DnD style gameplay. You may happen to get more turns (Skills , attacks) but in the end the result is the same and that is it is hit for hit which is just another way of saying turn based. Play some RPG's sometimes or maybe some TRPG and you will better understand how I came to this.
It is not turn based because it is not one for one movement. By your reasoning, every game is turn based. The classic turn base is where the player selects a move for their turn and then all actions proceed based of of that one turn. Then the process is repeated. The game uses what is called live action because nothing is predetermined and Amy action can be made or changed at any time. The player can be in midswing and decide to run away without the consequence of that swing. Therefore, no ff xiv is not a turn based game.
