We've all been loyal followers, most since the very first time we hacked a skeleton to re-death in the first level of the Tristram Church. Most of us were chilled to the bone when we heard the phrase: "Ahh fresh meat!!". And all of us have played and become addicted for a very extended period of time when Diablo resurfaced to bring his brothers from their prisons only to be stopped by our mighty uber avatars.
We've all kept faith, and held strong rumor after rumor. HUGE evidence, and ABSOLUTE proof has been summed up, yet for all our reason and over-analysis we have come out empty-handed. Some of our brethren were turned to the dark side, HellGate: London a deciever, a recruiter for the legions of the burning hells themselves with the promise of what we wanted. Yet we resisted temptation, and here we stand still.
I want you guys to really tell me, in your heart of hearts, is Diablo 3 really upon us? I myself have been a devout follower, a fanatical believer, and an optimist for our hope and dream. This time just as the last I feel it again, the hope rising and washing me with the feeling of expectance, of knowledge that its finally here. However this time I'm a little more skeptical.
Heart-break we have felt and still we were neglected, a bare mention of us was given at Blizzcon last year. We all felt against all odds that Diablo would be announce in Korea. Same with Blizzcon. Yet we got NOTHING at of either.
Thats one side.
However against all this doubt, confusion, and pessimism, I still see the ray of hope, and the feeling that it IS finally here.
Blizzard has been hinting at more and more Diablo activity in the last two years. They don't say a thing, they don't release a thing, and they don't even draw anything with Diablo other than the head first seen in the Blizzcon banner. However, we got out of Knaak that its coming soon, Blizzard gave us a live Tristram song by the original artist in concert at Blizzcon, and now they've acquired Diablo3.com. Quoting a friend of ours:

even the fact they'll be linking Diablo3.com to Diablofans.com till June (WWI) and then to their own url *hint* is kind of suspicious, dont you all think?
Thats more of a hype than i had expected to be honest, now i'm about 99% sure and just expect the final announcement and screenshots!
He makes a very valid point. Weeks away from the WWI, Blizzard takes Diablo3.com for themselves, gives us a while to find this site, diablofans.com, and without saying it mentioned that they will use the site after a month. Not a coincidence. They've been building the hype EVER so slowly, yet its climbed and climbed.
My friends, I cannot tell you whether its finally here, or whether its not. None of us can. I can't tell you I'm %100 sure that its here, because I don't feel %100 sure that its finally here. But what I can tell you, is that this time out of all the other times there is the MOST EVIDENCE, and the MOST LIKELINESS that it is in fact here. For those of you who believe in higher powers, pray. For those of you who don't, Hope with all your souls that it has arrived. And for those who don't like the game and could care less, right now's a pretty good time to leave.
Tristram, Sanctuary, The World Wide Web, and Diablo3.com have been shaken. We shook them all ourselves, with the undying loyalty and faith in the return of the big demon to our very well sharpened and glistening swords. The people are the force behind a game's success and its impact on the world, and this is showing just how strong we are.
What is left for us to shake, and will we merely shake it? NO! the World Wide Invitational is next, and We......Will......Rock it to the ground!!!
Nice, I do think they will announce it at WWI in June.
If for some reason they don't.. I will give up waiting and won't be interested in any further rumors whatsoever related to D3. I will probably buy Starcraft 2 and then I'm finished with Blizzard.
It's okay to be teased for some time but I'm at the brink of the bearingpoint.
I feel the same way, though I know that after a couple months I'll come begging for forgiveness and offer them another chance like the abused wife I am to them.
The poll answers are very fitting. And that is why the question says to read the post first. Or am I confusing your point?
I read your post, it is very informative and I agree that Diablo 3 is coming, I think it will be soon but I don't think that the poll has very good options, you basically gave two options, yes or no. Maybe I would just change the poll question to, Will Diablo 3 be announced at WWI, i think that is more what I am answering with the poll anyway.

The question is in reference to the post, and to the WWI. But you guys are right, I should have been more clear in "Will Diablo 3 be ANNOUNCED at the WWI?". Oh well, I don't wanna make another thread.
I believe that the time is finally upon us for the Return of Terror. And if it isn't, Terror will be upon us because the gaming company we've been devoted to has abandoned us.
It may or may not be announced at WWI. Thats not a good answer for what you are asking, I know, but you pointed out in your opening post that speculations keep running into two-way streets. Personally, I hope we are close.
Lets not forget a few things: Diablo was as big as Warcraft was before they released WoW. SC was pretty much dead, seeing as there was a whole ten year gap between installments. That in itself is proof that the question we really deal with here is "When, not if." With a still huge fanbase, there is no reason to not make a sequel.
The arguement of Blizzard not wanting to compensate WoW money intake for a Diablo game is bologna in my eyes, if D3 would be P2P. They wouldn't hurt their gross monthly income at all, either players stick with WoW, or they get D3. Then you could also have a good few thousands of people running subscriptions to both games, at least for a while. Not to mention, those who don't have WoW may still get D3. In general, I think Blizzard would expand their currency that way.
Do I want it to be announced at WWI? Bet your sweet cheeks I do.
Is it realistic to be announced at WWI? After 7 years of no new pc game content in the francise, any date someone throws out would be realistic.
What will outsiders think if its not announced at WWI? "Told you D3 will never be released". But, I've been waiting so long for the game, why should I start not believing in a sequel now?
The post is to give two sides. The cautious side, and the full in side. Both are Pro-Diablo. And as you said, its never been a matter of if. But when. I misnamed the question and the thread, those were my bad's.
And Kur'Tal, the gravy is right over here next to the Turkey. There's also some bacon bits down by the Steak, and beans by the Pork Ribs. If you want vegetables, I suggest you find another game to play, because Diablo is for Carnivores.
Realistically if Diablo 3 is not announced.
It will be either WC4 or a new game.
No way its another SC.
If D3 is not announced at WWI... I doubt it ever will be
There could also be no announcement at all, which is where I'm putting my money.
WWI in Paris.
With big expectations.
They already said they have 3 games to announce. They have only announced 2.
This will greatly ruin Blizzard's reputation, if nothing is announced.

So I can't have those potatoes and beans? aww... *jumps onto the table and savagely digs into the meat*
and in on topic news:
I agree if Blizzard does not announce another diablo game they will severly hurt their reputation. They have no other public events to announce a game this year considering they have said they will not attend E3.
I still think its to earily to vote on yes or no. I vote yes we will see a d3 but not at WWI.
i say it won't sadly its a bit earily blizzard won't hit d3 when SC2 was just announced. Sry to break everyones hopes. i do hope that blizzard will be more willing to let us know little bit more about their plans after SC2 at WWI. I see d3 will be one of blizzards last big game release ideas. unless at WWI they say otherwise.
thats what i think blizzard is planing but thats just my opinion.
i agree with Ferret I will also be so thrilled if they announce it at WWI.

First, I seriously doubt that it will be announced this year. Near the end of next year perhaps, then released in 2011, 2012 at the latest. Sorry if I sound pestimestic, but it's simply how I see things going.
Second, saying Starcraft was dead before SC2 was announced is laughable Ferret. Starcraft had, and still has a huge community. It's one of the largest RTS's world wide. (Especially in Korea.) Saying that it was dead before SC2 was announced shows you know very little about the SC community. However I would not hold that against you, as you are a Diablo fan, not a Starcraft fan.
Third, personally I don't want an announcement. I think it would be quite interesting if they released it and let the public and video game media pick up on it. This would possibly cause more of an uproar then anything that Blizzard could do on there own, which would mean more sales, along with greater chance at Diablo 4.
