swab is - because pertussis is in the lower rt by the time cough has become apparent. nasopharynx wouldnt show pertussis, and even if it did. does weakly gram- rod sound pretty diagnostic for pertussis? it doesnt grow at all on regular blood agar either, u need a Bordet-Gengou agar, which is about as common as peeps in a lab. sputum sample+aggl test is how u find this bug.

Life just involves lying around in a circle waiting for little food pellets to start rolling around. seriously...the cough was pretty much a giveaway. i threw in the toxin too, still...sputum sample, not swab.
