It's, essentially, a social program used to help curb children's exposure to drugs. I've had to sit through it; they have a police officer come in and talk about how bad meth and cocaine is, show us some anti-pot propaganda, and it's pretty much the biggest waste of time.
There is very little evidence that this program works. It's because they're trying to reach the kids at an age (fifth grade) when they're encouraged to learn and want to learn. It's not as much about learning about the dangers of drugs as it is about learning about the drugs themselves.
It didn't phase me. Popular culture has done more to protect me from the dangers of meth and other hard drugs than DARE ever did. At the end of the program, we got a T-shirt with the acronym on it (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). We outgrew the shirt.
Yeah that thing started back with Nancy Reagan and the "Just Say No" failure war on drugs. Pretty sad it was, especially when she kicked it off in LA with Daryl Gates close by (The racist police chief over the Rodney King beating). She stood on the back of a flat bed truck surrounded by bullet proof glass with a bullhorn in her hand out in front of an alleged drug house. She raised the bullhorn to her mouth and yelled to LA police standing on both sides of the truck "GO GET'EM BOYS!"
I shit you not! I'm sorry to say I watched this spectacle in horror live on TV when they did it.
They ran in and drug out black people in cuffs, she along with Daryl Gates after it was all safe toured the house (see below image). While getting the "drug house tour" Nancy made comments on camera like "uh! look how they live" and various other disparaging sentiments that came across as bigoted. She had a sour look on her face the whole damn time like she was afraid to contract a disease or something being in the place.
Oh my Chief Gates that must be where they knocked in the door! - yeah it was really that stupid.
I recall wondering how much they paid the people inside to stay there while the hardly secretive drug raid occurred on national TV live LMAO! Later it was discovered the house they raided belonged to a unwitting low income family, worse yet there were no drugs in the house at all and the story was quickly quietly brushed under the nearest rug.
I'm pretty sure when they made the first Die Hard movie, the idiot police chief in the movie inspiration came from Daryl Gates dismal track record.
You always say the most ironic things. Grapsing at straws. Please. You know as well as I that lightly defending someone doesn't constitute having your "panties in a mix." That's completely absurd.
What's truly absurd is how focused you are on this part when it's almost entirely irrelevant to the core of the discussion.
This is what is called grasping at straws.
Also, you question my honestly, but you fail to bother with pointing out where you consider me to be lying.
I never said you were lying. Reading and understanding anything that comes as criticism on the way you 'debate' seems to be very difficult for you.
Intellectual dishonesty is not synonymous to lying if that's where you are getting your cue from. It's about grasping at straws.
I am going to assume that it is the section about not being able to rate her, and seeing beauty in generaly health and hapiness. If so, I think it's very funny that you would go on and on about how hurtful beauty ideals are, and then accuse someone of lying if they don't hold anyone to a particular standard, as though it's not possible to do. It seems somewhwat duplicious. Some people are more striking than others, often for reasons you can't see in a flat image. But most of it is fairly complex, and it's definitely not something I'd bother to quantify on a 10 point scale. Sorry if that concept is hard for you to grasp.
I'm sorry but that is just plain hypocrisy and trying your best to skirt away from a simple question on appearance appeal.
Some people are more striking than others often for reasons you can't see in a flat image? I am not saying to rate her on personality or social/oratory skills/achievement. But merely on the image.
For it is my assumption that is precisely people who are seeing actual faults in her (appearance) that don't find this funny- Trombone just demonstrated it by mentioning vagina necks. I don't find this a fault...at all.
Also visual analogue scales have good enough sensitivity and reliability in terms of characteristics(appearance here) that cannot be directly measured which is why it was chosen.
However if you can explain exactly WHAT is fairly complex(on judging appearance alone subjectively), I might consider a different form of evaluation that is more 'fair'. The scale is meant to take into account all your preconceived notions ideas/experiences and is subjective.
Is that too hard for you to grasp?
Certainly, as a person who has strategically decided to put emphasis on a certain part of their body for their photo that has been devoted a thread, you must be aware at least on a subconscious level of the power of visual appraisal.
In any case, all the famous people/fashion magazine do consciously know of it even though you want to make it a complex issue which it is obviously not.
Also, you can play the mature card all you want but being a girl showing off her chest on an internet forum to gather attention hardly qualifies you for it. On top of 'going down to my obnoxious level'. Oh my....
Irony, irony.
That's why i said you were boring and lacked intellectual integrity and honesty.
@Trombone- I understand the situation quite well.
You are making an assumption on the insecurity of some people while I on the vanity of same people.
There's a fine line that is crossed which tips the scale between needing to be 'beautiful' and understanding that you realistically can't and you best get used to it.
In reply to this-
Quit trying to be smart, you fail in pathetic manner.
A cool guy is also a popular guy. So you are knocking at the wrong door here. I don't clamor to popular appeal.
And what's with the dictionary part? Did i write something complicated?
But then again, if your avy is gooby, i can understand how many of the words I am using seem complicated.
Finally if you can't add to the topic, piss off. This is the URT. I don't complain about your retarded gooby speech. So have some consideration on your side now.
@nekrodrac I'll be mindful of the venue and keep this brief, to the extent possible, because I suspect an overwhelming majority of participants here have lost interest in this discussion, if they ever had an interest to begin with.
The reason I come back to the "panties in a mix" comment, is because I think you intended it to be inflamtory. At the time, it was very clear that no one was upset. As I said already, this conversation up until that point was very light. The condescending tone you use in all your posts is further evidence. You intended to start an argument, and I stand by my original aligation that you are a troll.
I refuse to rate the girl on a 1-10 scale because I do not see things in that light. I don't think there is a perfect height, a perfect chin shape, a perfect bust size, or a perfect anything. Human genetics are rich with infinite possibilities for beauty based on endless combinations of traits. Even the people I think are more striking than average, I don't neccesarily consider more pretty. They just have a kind of beauty that happens to be more direct, more dramatic, or more on trend. Trying to rate people on a 10 point scale based on appearance is degrading. I'm not saying it's a big deal, but it's not something I'm going to participate in.
Soneone with a serious interest in discussion would just accept that and find another way to make their point, instead of going on a tangent and assualting my "intelectual integrity and honesty" based on my refusal. I reitterate my earlier point, that when you talk against beauty ideals, then claim someone isn't being honest with themselves when they refuse to subscribe to a beauty ideal (which is precisely what is neccesary to rate someone on a 10 point scale, ) you are being contradictory. Beauty is beauty. Anyone who takes care of themselves and is healthy has potential for their own brand of beauty, that in my eyes, is no more or less beautiful than anyone else's brand. If you have difficulty believing that, it's fine. Maybe when you are older and understand how fragile the human body is, especially in terms of beauty, you will understand just how pointless it is to try to quantify it.
Also, your notion that physical appraisal is not complex is completely laughable. In terms of simple yes or no, attractive or unnattractive, that is true. Beyond that, it is very complex.
At the core of this discussion though is the image, so let's get past the various tangents and discuss that. This doesn't seem to be ad material or anything. Going by the pose and the other people around, it seems to be an actual school sports photo. This person did not do anything to declare herself open for an online critique, or ask to be made a meme. She simply showed up for a school photo shoot. Some of the things mentioned on there she probably does feel insecure about. This meme is degrading, irresponsibile, and very disprespectful.
Trying to drag my online presence into the discussion, and trying to write me off as immature because of the nature of some of my photos, is a pitiful tactic. I am not shy, have very little humility, and am not ashamed of myself. I accept that sexuality and sensuality is a huge part of all of us, and an important aspect of life. I see it as something to celebrate and embrace rather than something to hide, and a part of my identity. So yes, I'm comfortable with posting things some people would not. It's not a matter of mature vs. immature. It's a matter of questioning how I want to present myself, and coming up with a slightly different answer than some other people. It's also entirely irrelevant to absolutely everything.
Lol! I promise that's my last post on the subject of this photo, unless there's a respone that's so personal I absolutely have to reply. Even in that case... I'll be summing up in less than 4 sentences in future rebutals.
Yes, I wrote all that mess up above to get people to shift away from the topic and I FAILED!

LOL! I wanted to comment on it last night, but I was too sleepy. It would have been something about the government, media, spin, targeting groups that are out of the majority or out of favor, and how sometimes when you look at it all together, it's like the Salem Witch Hunts of the digital age.
This is the first year I've been aware of it, so it caught me off guard. I'm a major fan though. There's actually a thermal detonator signed by Carrie Fisher on a shelf in my office.
Sort of wish I had brought a lightsaber, but I don't know how many people here would get it. Plus I tend not to come across as a serious professional even on a good day.
@Hashashiyyin I could go for cake right now. Can't believe it's not even noon here and I'm already starved. Keep staying hungry all the time. Last nigth I went out for a pretty big dinner. Then I came home and ate an entire box of blackberries by myself.

Oh, this reminds me I might have some ice cream in fridge....
Vanilla with chocolate syrup would be amazing right now. *Kick* That's for reminding me that I'm hungry, AGAIN!!

It was suppose to be mind blowing that the girl pictured in the video grew up to be the hottie in the picture above

What a constructive post. I think this convinced me to stop.
+1 there.
Edit- I am not 'restarting' anything. Different time zones..
So it's just continuing gooby.
I would love to fight OUR YOUR puberty.
TO WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am taking the pick-axe.

Will get back to you later on your latest post. There's an idea i wanted to expand/share there.

Never new about said day... so many facebook status make sense now! ha!

@Freddy Welcome back!
It's not always bad but more often than not it just ends in arguing.
