What do you guys think about BROADCASTED gamer girls (youtube, G4, etc.)? Given our gaming culture and history, it's rare to find a girl in the media that is truly into games and not out in the open just to garner attention, popularity, and fame. With that said, there are real gamer girls that have developed genuine interests in the field before gathering any public notoriety.
So, who do you guys think are fake, real, annoying? Maybe, some of you don't even care, you just like staring at their boobs, which is totally fair game by the way.
Post examples, pour out your hearts! Females, don't shy away either!

"The Unchosen" Pain of Admirance Sigil (For those without -Feat of Strength-):
I think a general mistake people are making lies in the definition of "gamer" as remaining a seperate community. Gaming has become far more mainstream then it was maybe 10 years ago.
These days there are many girls playing video games. I would not be comfortable labeling people playing videogames, girl or guy, "gamers" though =)
"Casual Gamers
Casual gamers is assumed at first glance to be for those gamers that play games sporadically. Now and then. Sometimes. When they have time. But that’s not true. Look at the number of people that play Facebook games (the true barometer for casual gaming in a lot of ways). There are people spending dozens of hours a week playing Facebook games that do not consider themselves gamers. In my mind, someone is a casual gamer because of two distinct facts: 1) The person does not identify themselves as a gamer. This automatically puts them on the outside of “gaming culture.” 2) There is not a larger interaction with a community outside of directly playing the game. This concept is what drives someone to the next level of gaming. Hardcore Gamers
How does someone become a hardcore gamer? It’s the same two reasons I mentioned above, just on the opposite side of the fence: identify as a gamer, and interact with a larger community. There are so many ways to do this that I do not have the space or the time to write about them. I will just point out one example as an illustration of a true hardcore gamer, and that’s Taugrim. Take a moment to look around his site, and you’ll find tidbits such as this:
The AC has 3 talent trees from left-to-right, 1 for tanking and 2 for DPS:
Shield Tech (Shield Specialist): this is the tanking tree. As you’d expect, this is the tree to spec into for PVE tanking, as there are multiple talents that boost survivability via armor-based mitigation, increased shield chance, increased absorption, etc. This tree provides excellent utility in PVP including an in-combat charge, -Accuracy PBAoE debuff, and a proc-snare effect
Advanced Prototype (Tactics): this DPS tree provides passive and on-demand speed buffs, excellent short-range (0-10m) capability, increased elemental and internal damage, crit mechanics, and strong CC capability
Pyrotech (Assault Specialist): this DPS tree provides mechanics that revolve around Damage Over Time (DoT) effects, including damage buffs, procs, and snare effects. This tree provides the strongest > 10m ranged capability of the trees
You’ll notice a lot of jargon and language that most gamers wouldn’t understand, as it’s meant for a specific game. It’s a way to communicate to the community. He’s an advanced player who is trying to help newer players of a game better understand what’s going on, and how they can improve. It’s a great resource for beginning or intermediate players of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Taugrim is a great example of a hardcore gamer, and a hardcore gaming community, but I’m not sure if he fits the next level, that of professional."
Let's focus just on the hardcore gamers. Happy with that?

Girl gamers out number boy gamers. 53% of gamers are infact female. It's actually more rare to find a boy that is truly into games and not just MW3.

Well, gaming with a girl adds another layer of interest to the interaction bit and is often fun when you're just playing around but I've never meet a female that can cope on a higher level of skill which takes away a layer of fun, it's a trade-off that can either spice things up or make it more dull.
If you're speaking of female gamers as in the acuall player behind the screen then it's ursually very nice hanging out IRL since we share a common interest.
There are obviously more male gamers then female, heard numbers of a 9-1 ratio
well, as a game designer (im studying it!) all i can say is that when one garnallise what a gamer is it can be anything form the most hardcore wow player to the most casual mom playing some angry birds on facebook.
its all games and its all "gaming". some people just dont accept gaming in flash games and such as gaming, but it is. i mean if someone games on there phone all the time is that gaming? well yes it is! those games are kinda like flash games
thats in the "US" not the world... US is NOT the world...
I also spent 3 seconds searching and the first 10 results agreed. This one just had an infographic, which people love.
If you're actually studying game design at a university you've probably seen the same peer-reviewed journal articles that I have saying that since ~2009, the majority of gamers have been female.

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA! I've just realized something! I've totally forgot to clarify something very important!
I meant BROADCASTED gamer girls. The ones that actually 'review' games and commentate. Sorry, I didn't mean all encompassed gamer girls. I'll have to edit the first post.

Lol, in that case, I'll agree. I know that 90% of games reviewed in "video reviews" are done by really attractive girls many of whom admit to really not liking gaming all that much.
All I know is girl gamers brainwash the minds of my raid's best players...
Not creepy at all that the guy was 16 and the girl was almost in her 30s, not at all.
Personally I have nothing against girl gamers skill wise, but I have never had a girl gamer that did not mess with the heads of the men around them and get free stuff and sympathy, not saying they asked for it, but they sure got it.
To sum it up, its hard to kill-yogg saron when you got cthulhu in your raid.

Many males simply don't recognize the games the demographics represent in as a game.
Secondlife, Sims, flash games and so on many gamers just do not recognize these formats, do not play these games at all and find themself in environments that are nearly bereft of females and the more gameplay based challenge vs social elements creates a larger absence as the social aspects drop off.
Games that present an emotional maternal role like raising pets and so on in games and gaining attachment to them grab you some females but if the game is too hard it can be intimidating, they want to enjoy them self and get positive attention more then they want to be a psychopath and go around dominating people in a best case scenario or want to avoid being embarrassed.
You obviously can't account for some through generalization, that you probably don't want to run into or won't run into because that is the situation when a generalization is being presented that's what someone can generally find.
I've already commented on the game review gimmick girl that creates the same sexual association that's prevalent in advertising.
Game girls simply don't have to be spectacular just more look the part it's not as if us guys are going to turn down girls that are passable, they are passable after all.
If we are going to be honest we would say we'd give girls like mintchip, pokket, kaeyi a good going over if it was on offer.

But I've seen it in peer-reviewed journal articles as well.
I'm not arguing that your wrong or anything along those lines and there may be more gamer girls then guys. But to start, it's the internet. I could go write an article based on the city I live in and get numbers and statistics and results saying only %1 of the gamers are female. Or even write an article that I completely made up. Again, not accusing any of your sources or opinions to be wrong.
Theres a lot of different factors too. As i said theres only two girls I've every met in my small city of Zephyrhills, Florida, Just outside of Tampa and not to mention they spend no where the time some of the guys i know actually playing video games. Just about every person where I live within my age group ( I'm 19 years old ) has played video games or has a game system or computer with games of their own. But some of these articles may not include the fact they only spend 5 hours a week playing spyro the dragon on a playstation 1. In my opinion that does not make them a "gamer" it just means that they play them.
My experience playing a ton of different games which include all genres on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and any type of online computer game and if i had to guess, I'd put the ratio about 8 guys for every female and Im sure you being on a Diablo 3 website have either played diablo 2 at some point, maybe the diablo 3 beta or have seen videos of people playing it and your the first female I've even seen on these forums although im relatively new. (I visited this website way before I made the account though)
Now this is just through my experience of gaming and growing up in a town where there may be a relatively small amount of actual female gamers, but It's hard to imagine it being different elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure I should be offended, but I'm going to let this slide and say it only applies to Farmville.

I just have an obviously female name. I'm sure there are several more. I'd say a lot of female gamers hide behind male avatars and names to avoid unwanted attention, I just stopped caring and will tell someone to leave me alone lol.
As far as hardcore gamers, I'd agree there are probably more males, but I doubt it's anywhere near an 8:1 ratio, I'd maybe give it 2:1.
