Think of the worst, most stupid thing you've ever done in your life. The absolute worst thing. You don't have to post it, I know I never would. I would rather forget that it ever happened.
All of you have something. Contemplate it.
When you did it, you were probably either ignorant of how stupid it was, or you ignored the people that told you it was stupid. You decided to do it anyway, most likely because you were young and reckless. People do stupid things, in their formative years especially. Pretending like you never make terrible decisions is lying to yourself.
You "chose" to perform that stupid act, just like a drug user "chooses" to use for the first time. It's pretty much unavoidable that someone does something desperately stupid like that at some point in their life.
If you do something dangerous and injure yourself, or damage someone's property, or ruin some opportunity you had, you are punished by virtue of the act. You get the stick instead of the carrot.
For someone that their stupid thing was some form of hard drug, you get the carrot. It doesn't feel like a stupid thing at all. You are rewarded for that first stupid ignorant decision. So you're that much more likely to repeat that mistake, and each time you do it's harder to undo it. Worse, if you try to stop you will feel violently ill for days or even weeks.
Imagine if that were the case with the stupid thing you did.
The only thing I can think off is driving without a license, but I didn't feel bad when I stopped doing it ^^
I'd rather not share the... interesting story that made me stop, unless you want me to
She was an addict, but she never did anything wrong to anyone, her addiction did harm only to herself. Yes, you can say it was expected, but you can't say it's funny or that she deserves it; no one deserves to die.
Well...aside from the multiple assault charges that had been filed against her over the years. Her drug addiction was just one symptom of a collection of bad decisions. That being said, I agree with the rest of your post. Anybody who is happy about the death of someone who, in the grand scheme of things, was not a particularly bad person has a very calloused view on human life. Regardless of whether or not her death effects you personally, you should at least be able to empathize with her family, friends, and fans who, in spite of her shortcomings and personal problems, are surely affected in a very real way.
Not everyone is privy to the knowledge you are. This may be difficult for you, but try to put yourself in someone else's shoes. Imagine, for the sake of argument, that you had lived your life up to this moment without knowing coffee was an incredibly dangerous substance.
...
You can't afford rehab if you're broke, and you can't avoid a trap you don't know exists.
Yeah, it's really simple to pretend someone who is the same age or younger than most of us would somehow be lacking knowledge of the extremely bad consequences of doing drugs, seeing as they don't cram it through your eyes and ears through your entire education, they don't make consistent references to it in popular media, and they totally make it accessible in your local liquor store.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that she deserved it, because we don't even know what she died of. I can say, however, that I don't give two shits about her death. Plenty of people die everyday. Unsung heroes of war, cancer patients, accidental deaths, and nobody gives two shits. I'm not gonna sob over a junky untalented celebrity just because she's a celebrity. She's done nothing good to her community. She has given nothing to this world. She has bettered nothing through nothing. She has spent her money on self destruction, which eventually led to her self destruction, and probably her eventual death. Does she deserve it? I don't particularly think so. Should I care or feel sorry for her? Absolutely not.

I think this is only the second time I've said this, but I agree with Meph.
I don't care about Amy Winehouse. Never listened to any of her music, never cared about her career or life, etc. I don't think she deserved death anymore than any other person does. (I'm of the belief that nobody deserves death or torture - although I understand that it can be acceptable in the face of the imminent deaths and/or torture of many others).
With that in mind, I will say that anyone who thinks she deserved this is an asshole. Anyone who doesn't care is normal. Anyone who cares should focus more on their own lives and less on the lives of celebrities.

Noooooooooo! Mephy why? Why did you change your sig?
I know right. That chick had dreamy eyes. The animation was cool and it didn't distract you too much. I hate flashing "in your face" animations. Now we just have Keanu looking all douchy.
But seriously, most of the time if you are addicted to something and even if you know it, you can't help it. Even if you want to. And it affects a lot of other things in your life as well. So it's best not to get into the habit. Resisting is not as hard as people tend to make it. Really. Even small things like smoking. Most of my friends smoke and they used to force me to join but i never did. And eventually they stopped forcing me. I used to force them to stop smoking but they never did so i stopped forcing them. We are all living our lives the way we chose to.
But as for Amy Winehouse, was she any different than the other drug addicts who die everyday? They all had friends and family but we ain't mourning for them. I'm really surprised there was this long a discussion over her death. (It was basically over drug-addiction or why someone said she deserved to die but still.)
No one deserves to die, true, but i think only a few deserve to be mourned over by strangers and she certainly wasn't one of them. If she had focused on her work and did something truly memorable, i might have remembered her for a long time but did she? It was sad yes, that she died, but as i said before it wasn't tragic. She brought that upon herself even if she didn't want to. But clearly she was aware of what could happen to her and she didn't try her hardest to resist. Several people have resisted and are living their lives happily. She could have done that.
And as for thinking about her family and friends, she should have done that herself before she crossed the line.
She left nothing to the world and i doubt she did anything to her family or friends either. So I'm sure not a lot of people will be sobbing over her for too long. A person died and as is the custom we bowed in the name of humanity. It isn't worth any more than that.

Very. It does not really make a difference why someone died, because they're all equally dead and the dead don't really care. The living might, but I rarely do beyond playing the devil's advocate.
How do you know the dead do not care? Have you been dead before?

I find the concept of life after death -- or even consciousness after death -- highly implausible. Therefore I feel I'm able to claim the null hypothesis that the dead do not feel or think anything. And the null hypothesis can not be proven, only disproved or failed to be disproved.
Interesting.
You didn't claim any hypothesis null.
You said "The dead don't really care." implying in this case that they care at least a little. So you can't make a fair assessment on how much they feel, which is at least some, since you were saying they cared little.
Of course this is just a bunch of opinions though, and you know what they say about opinions. I love opinions though. What does that say about me...
It says that you've searched the word "anal" on google.
@Don-Yup, that was my whole point there. I'm very sensitive to the word "know".

Nope. I could only understand two of them. One of them was English and the other was unsatisfactory.

A personal example I can give is that I got addicted to World of Warcraft for 4 years. I failed my degree, lost my job, lost my 4 year-long-term relationship and lost my apartment - all because I was spending 120 hours+ a week playing a stupid video game.
ehe, i know what you mean man,im also addicted bad to lucky charms cereal.

Oh wait hold on.
Way to actually read the quote you quoted.

One of the most common fallacies is that of presumed knowledge. Don't generalize about other people's experiences based on your own.
